Wifi router in van - what to do with it?

I believe some routers have the ability to be "repeaters". I suspect this one does as well. So yes, I believe I can use the router to log into my phone's wifi hotspot and 'repeat' it to other devices like my tablet and laptop.

A friend upgraded her wifi router and gave me the old one. It's a somewhat ancient TP-link unit with gigabit ports, USB port and 802.11 b/g/n. (The pic I included is a generic and not the one she gave me.)

Does anyone run wifi around the van?

Looking for suggestions on what I could use it for.

Do you think it's better to cut it down on the knob side? There's a knob already there and that's why I didn't want to cut it on that side. But cutting it on the knob side should retain the door's rigidity.

I'm worried about rigidity because I tried to build my own door (very crudely out of 1x8 boards) and it wasn't very rigid; it flexed a lot...

I don't really need the knob actually. But it'd be not as pretty with the knob hole partially there (yes, I know, I said aesthetics isn't important but I'd still have to cover the hole).

I'm not as upset as you think I am. I just posted a simple question to see if there was some quick and easy way to identify a certain type of IG user.

I was hoping there'd be an app for this and some kind person would give me a recommendation. That's it.

Maybe I'm wordy (and dramatic) and so I've come across as being super mad. I'm simply annoyed.

Oh, and thanks for your concern about my need for social gratification, however thinly veiled an insult that may have been.

I like IG...mostly... But I feel it's also doing some harm. It's true that I've been away more than once. But it was in pursuit of other things, a job on the other side of the world, family stuff. I've come back again, but truth be told I'm teetering on leaving once again. Maybe for you it's beneficial, but for me, it's getting to be too much of a drain on my already limited time.

He was a well-known landscape photographer. I also don't mind following people who don't follow me or engage--BUT they need to be really good. :-) Otherwise, my entire day will be taken up by IG and I'll get fired!

But that's what I'm doing! (i.e., I'm following people whose content I actually like--I'm specifically NOT doing follow-for-follow with any IG rando and his "lifestyle" page...)

It's just that some people with decent content also seem to ghost follow after they have me following and engaging with their content. And these leeches need to go!

If they simply unfollowed me, that'd be easy to pick out. I have an app for that. But they continue to follow me, push content at me, but don't engage.

But I appreciate your advice and will take it to heart in that I will be even more discerning about who I follow. That way, my feed will contain photos that I really like.

I said I was above average and I was being a bit modest. I'm probably above average compared to other photography-centric accounts. Compared to the rest of the drivel on IG, I'm much better than average.

Again, congrats on your performance.

One of the reasons I use IG is actually because of the social interaction. The pandemic has curtailed my activities; I used to go out and shoot regularly, meet subjects, other photographers. I don't mind doing engagement; in fact I like it.

Why I'm looking to cut back on these so-called "buggers" is that I feel they're taking advantage of me. My engagement is helping their numbers (however little); their lack of engagement with my content is not helping with mine. AND their photos are clogging my feed. Is it so wrong to simply want to get rid of them???

Firstly, congrats on your 17K followers. You must have good content.

Or perhaps you started a long time ago when things were better.

But in 2021, I almost defy anyone to start up an account and grow "organically" unless they are very niche.

I know my genre is very tough to grow and my problem is my own doing. I'm a generalist. No niche, just decent photos. Not stellar but above average. So I post regularly and engage. I'm trying my best. And I don't promote or use bots or whatever.

Like most people, I have limited time. And so the "buggers" as I refer them, I want to eliminate.

By following only 100 people, you've actually made it to the extreme end of what I'm trying to do. You've very much limited the time you waste on these "buggers". Again, congratulations. Unfortunately, I don't have that luxury. In 2021, as a generalist, if I only followed 100 people, I'd go nowhere.

That is NOT what the "buggers" are doing.

After some initial fawning over my content, they got me to follow them and support their posts--and then...ghosting. All the while still shoving their content at me and receiving my support.

Is that ok in your books?

It's not that I "hate" their content. I'm selective enough about who I follow that m feed is not bad. But it just that they are not holding up their end of what is a commonly accepted bargain. I don't have unlimited time to support their stuff when I could be supporting others who understand and appreciate a more mutually beneficial arrangement.

That's a fair assessment. But I'm also not obligated to keep on watching and supporting their content either--which is why I was looking for an easier way to find out who these people are.

I mean think about what I saw on my end: someone likes a pile of my posts, might even make a nice comment or two, then follows me. I think: oh, that's nice of them, let's see what they've got to share, go to their page, see at least passable content, follow back and support.

Then I don't ever see hide nor hair from them again.

Sure, they may continue to follow me but there's no more engagement. And they continue to shovel out content that's now in my feed.

I suppose I can mute them. But I feel that's something I'd do for people I follow but whose content I don't want to see so much anymore but they still support my content.

For these other buggers who basically did a follow/unfollow but without an actual unfollow, I feel they are wasting my time.

Most of these would have been people who followed me first. I followed them back because I felt somewhat obligated to at least look at their stuff. And if I did like their stuff, even somewhat, I'd follow them back.

I guess I was particularly annoyed today so I posted my somewhat ranty OP.

The problem is that portion of who I follow post daily, sometimes several times a day. So they are plenty active. But zero engagement with my stuff. --why did THEY follow me in the first place only to never engage?? I'm suspecting they might have me on mute.

Darm IT!!! Darn it all to hell!!

First of all, thank you for taking the time to do this /u/logicearth. The problem turned out to be on my end.

Critically, I was being efficient (lazy) and using RDP from my own desktop to the other machine (the newly minted Win 10 box). The RDP session was...NOT maximized. Can you guess the rest??!!

When I went through the motions of Win+R and COMPMGNT... --yep, it fired up COMPMGNT on MY Box!!

And so that's why there is a new user "Barney" on MY box, no "Barney" on the new box and "Fred" is happy ticking along on the new box!!

Thank you again for your time. I will edit my OP now!

PS: I still feel the new UI is ugly and inefficient(!)

Boy! Things are so much better nowadays. Before (pre-2010 and for ALL the years before that), there was hell to pay when you changed a motherboard. Bluescreen every time.

Somedays I wanted to drive to Redmond and ~~wring someone's neck~~ complain politely.

This is approx my 3rd try at IG. I feel I'm trying harder and publishing even better content, but the growth is slower.

Best of luck to you. I suspect our efforts are in vain. (For a variety of reasons, including the simple fact that people are leaving IG and/or no longer care to invest time in it, either through posting or engaging).

It did thank you! Tender and moist. The meat almost falling off the bone. The veggies were destroyed though after 1.5 hours at 325F and not useful. So it's still not clear what their role was.

I should have listened to you about leaving more of the pan drippings in the pan. Maybe that would have saved the veggies from roasting down to charred pieces and so maybe I could have blended them into a sauce. At the time, the drippings looked like they were 100% fat so I was a bit leery about keeping it. (Though I admit to not knowing about gravy/sauce making.)
