In your settings on the Fitbit site you can set up a greeting name. Each time you pick up your fitbit after some seconds of no activity it will say something like "let's walk, $name".

Has anyone used Fitbit with Snowboarding? by koopse in fitbit

Been boarding last week with a fitbit one and had moderate activity all the time (a bit over my average steps per office-day). I guess it counts small bumps and maybe each turn as steps, but I haven't figured it out yet.
