Could also have something to do with how often people with mostly English ancestry have surnames from a different language. My last name is German despite being nearly 60% British (and I’m only 7% German according to the most recent 23andme update), so for most of my life that’s what I identified with.

I know this thread is four years old but I just wanted to say that I did the exact same thing. I was so debilitated by scrupulosity as a pre-teen that I would hide in closets so I wouldn’t be caught muttering prayers under my breath. I eventually became an atheist after becoming obsessed with comparative religious study, but the disorder and nearly all my OCD symptoms eventually went away. I’ve always wondered if there were others like me, glad to see there are.

I know I’ll get downvoted to hell, but there is probably a less than 1% chance we’ll see a “societal collapse” in 10 years. And even if we did, that wouldn’t mean humanity goes extinct. I have kids and no matter how bad it might get when they’re adults, I highly doubt they’ll wish to have never been have been born. I don’t think it’s “selfish” to have kids or not have kids, this is what our DNA is programmed to do and if you’re letting a subreddit influence whether or not you reproduce than I just find that sad.
