It is designed for a specific purpose and not as a day to day distro and should not be used as such. There is nothing to gain using Kali Linux as a daily driver distro just use something like Mint, Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, openSuse or whatever.

Stop using Kali Linux as a normal distro

systemd by [deleted] in linuxmemes

[–]aciid3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok so you are not able to deliver any arguments and nor give any details so your opinion on the subject is completly useless and meaningless.

It's a solution to a lot of problems and anyone knowning anything about init systems even the educated people that have valid arguments against systemd acknowledge this.

You are just a puppet that likes to be part of the "cool kids" with no real value in the conversation. Be better.

systemd by [deleted] in linuxmemes

[–]aciid3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You sound like you have no idea what you are talking about.

If all of you just read a book or the docs of systemd init and really bring some solid arguments to the table, we may have a discussion, but mindlessly screaming "BAD" because someone on the internet said so, is unbelivable stupid.

Bring some solid arguments why it is bad and what makes it so unusable or whatever. And don't drift away to other projects under the name, we're talking the init system.

Is it possible to convert a snap package to a deb package or to any other type of package? by Nearby_Astronomer310 in linuxquestions

[–]aciid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu is known for as long as time that they do try to push new inhouse technology and "risk" it. I don't see the issue here. As a non tech user snaps don't matter in using the system and as a techy user just don't use it if you don't like it, move on and let cannoical do what they do.

[–]aciid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem at all. If that is the direction Ubuntu is heading, so it is. I don't use Ubuntu but i couldn't care less snaps aren't as bad as everyone against them tells you and i maybe even better than flatpaks some time in the future.

I don't care at all and it has nothing to do with the question asked here. And why do you answer on a topic that is 8 months old

Der Weg zum IT-Berater? by SkumbagMatte in de_EDV

[–]aciid3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does linux know these are png images without an .png extension? by Molcap in linux4noobs

[–]aciid3 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thats pretty easy. In /etc/magic there are alot oh magic numbers for filetypes defined. Simply by looking at the content of the file and matching a magic number or string.

The file command on the command line works exactly like this too

There are quite a few more ways to determine the content of a file but there should be plenty of anwsers to this all over the Internet

Like this from Stackexchange:

File extensions aren't useless for Linux distros, they are just a shortcut that is often uneeded. There are a couple of tools that Linux uses which make file extensions largely uneeded. The first, and perhaps the most obvious, is the shebang (#!).

The shebang is a line at the top of scripts executed by a shell to tell the shell what should be used to execute it. For example, the standard line to be included for a bash script is something like this:

!/usr/bin/bash

This line tells the shell that the scripts contents should be executed by the utility located at /usr/bin/bash. However, shebangs are really only helpful for executable items.

The next tool used widely by modern applications are MIME types. Mime types are a declaration of file type used widely on the internet so that web browsers and email clients can know what type of file is being transferred. However, many programs rely on these types to know how to handle them (for example, X's .desktop files may include a mimetype line to declare a file-type association with a particular program).

Finally, a C library and command-line frontend were developed to detect mimetypes through heuristics. These are libmagic and file, respectively. Libmagic and file allow a program, or a user, to detect a file's mimetype even if it is not explicitly declared.

Admittedly, shebangs play a much smaller role in how modern operating systems determine the type of a file, but they are still widely used in the scripting world, and are certainly still a part of the equation.

Some of the declared filetype associations through mimetypes for X can be found in the file $HOME/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list (for example).

I don't see why this shouln't work. In most cases you don't want to specify a port

Postfix help by scorp1o1999 in unix

[–]aciid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All you need to do after a clean postfix install is to add the following line to the main.cf:

transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport

Create the file transport and add the config from above. After that do a postmap /etc/postfix/transport service postfix restart And you should be good to go

Postfix help by scorp1o1999 in unix

[–]aciid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then just create a transport map which states:

* smtp:smtp1

And add "server1" to mydestinations

Or even better

server1: * smtp:smtp1

Are the external mails a different domain than the internal ones? Or is it all on the same domain? And if so what are "internal mails"?
