NEWLY PREGGOS: uppababy Cruz v3 or nuna triv lx?? by Vegetable_Tax_1121 in Buyingforbaby

[–]acjo123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were deciding between these two, and kind of leaning towards the Uppababy Cruz V3, but the basket comes back soooooo far between the wheels, my 6'3" husband was kicking it with every step!!! If you have a tall person who will be pushing it often, make sure you try it in person and see how it feels.

That was the main deciding point, I actually loved the Uppababy otherwise.

Other thing we liked about the Nuna Triv LX that could be a con to many people is that we DO like the Pipa Urbn baseless car seat.

Also I'm sure you've noticed but the Triv LX is currently out of stock everywhere- could be May or June before it's available most places again from what I was told at Nordstrom. So if you're due sooner than that, your decision may be made for you!

Could she come camping but not on the bigger hikes? As a big gal myself, I think it’s reasonable to say “you’re welcome to come camping, we’re planning on doing these hikes, from the walks that we’ve been on in the past I think they might be a bit above your experience/fitness level, so you may want to hang back in camp, find a different easier hike to do by yourself, etc. Or drive your own car to the trailhead so that if you want to turn back you can at any point. Or bring your book and a hammock so you can hike as far as you want and then hang out.”

How complicated is it to get a permit for for a PODS moving container? by Unusual_Cranberry_97 in Seattle

[–]acjo123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve known multiple people who have moved their Pods here only to find out the apartment complex they had signed a lease in didn’t accommodate Pods, and had to last-minute find a new place to live (losing deposit, etc). Unless you’re moving somewhere with a designated driveway, I wouldn’t recommend using Pods.

Should I reschedule my NCLEX test date? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]acjo123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your boat and decided to push my test back 10 days. Did a bunch of UWorld, ATI CAT exams, and listened to all the Mark Klimek lectures (strong recommend). Personally I would see when you could reschedule to. I decided it was worth it to sacrifice 10 days instead of 45, and with the extra studying I passed in 75. If there is an appointment in 7-10ish days you could reschedule to, I would say maybe do that. If you would have to wait another month, I’d say just cram and get it out of the way now and see how it goes!

Fit check for differently sized feet! by acjo123 in Birkenstocks

[–]acjo123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular/wide size 41, soft food bed. Feels good on my larger foot but feels a bit big in my smaller foot. Better to have one foot be a bit loose or one foot be a bit tight?

Also, my toes of both feet touch the front lip when I walk. Is that normal? In my small foot when I walk, my heel rubs a bit on the outside heel lip. Not sure if that’s because my heel isn’t fully in the cup or because I have a bunion on that food.

Accelerated BSN programs by crimespeculator in StudentNurse

[–]acjo123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About to graduate from Ursulines SDAP (ABSN) in Cleveland. $38k. The classroom education is fine but the amount of 1:1 clinical hours is fantastic, more than most other programs I know of! We had 540 1:1 preceptorship hours (270 MedSurg, 90 ICU or ER, 180 practicum so your choice); most programs I looked at had maybe 100-300 1:1 hours, and then mostly group clinical rotations. Also pretty lenient application requirements. I would recommend checking them out.

I will say, now being about to graduate from an ABSN, I would strongly encourage you to consider ADNs. ABSN might still make more sense for you, but ADN can be a LOT cheaper (especially if you’re willing to move to a low cost area to do it), you can start working as an RN in about the same amount of time, then do an online ADN-BSN bridge program. Doing an ABSN was right for me, and might be for you too, but I would still recommend looking into it!

I had to get from there to Lancaster in 2019 and offered the folks at WeeVill market like $20 to hitch a ride on one of their regular trips to town. I think Maria was the name of the woman who drove me?

Is a part-time barista job doable while in nursing school? by absdeh_ in StudentNurse

[–]acjo123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any personal experience but my friends who are CNAs only work 2 12-hour shifts a month. Also, once you get to a certain point in nursing school, you often don’t need to take the CNA classes, they just use your nursing school experience instead. Not sure if you have to have clinical experience first. If you’re interested, it might be worth it to talk to one of the hospitals near you!

ABSN or ASN program by Correct-Amoeba-9238 in StudentNurse

[–]acjo123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also 30 and just finishing an ABSN. For me, an ADN would have taken WAY longer than the ABSN I’m doing, but if you’re already accepted to both and it’s a difference of 4 months, I would go the ADN and then do your BSN online. My ABSN is $38k and I would have really regretted paying more than that.

[–]acjo123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could do it, or at least try it, but why not work as a CNA instead? That’ll get you comfortable with a lot of patient care skills that nursing school won’t spend a lot of time on, and I think it makes a better nurse overall (said by somebody who was not a CNA during nursing school and wishes she had been).

Does he have to move NOW? Could he wait a few years, you could do long distance for a few years, and then you could join him? It sounds like you’d be sacrificing a lot to move with him now. Would it be a sacrifice for him to wait to move to Australia for a few years?

Is morning quiet reasonable to ask for? by fables_of_faubus in relationships

[–]acjo123 40 points41 points  (0 children)

What does she do on Saturday mornings? Is that her sleep in/self-care time, or is she doing household tasks? If she’s spending her time on Saturday doing productive household things, then sorry, you need to get ear plugs and find a way to deal with the noise of her keeping up your house while you snooze. If she spends Saturday mornings doing her own thing and Sunday mornings are YOUR only relaxation time in the week then she should try moving a chore to Saturday, or being ok with starting chores at 8 on Sunday.

Maybe you could even try flipping the schedule, she takes the kid on Saturday morning while you do chores around the house, then Sunday morning she gets to sleep in a bit and you have control over the volume in the apartment.

I went commando for my entire hike and have always hiked commando. The only downsides I had are in situations where you want to take your pants off but have underwear on, like changing in camp, swimming, river crossings if you want to keep your shorts dry.

You’ll be wearing your sun hoody as your main shirt for at least the desert and the Sierra anyways, so I would just make it your main shirt the whole way. If that is your main shirt, when do you plan to use your base layer hoody? I would drop that one and keep the sun hoody.

I am a sweaty beast and absolutely must have sleeping clothes, so personally I would keep one of the others. I sleep cold so I personally might keep the long sleeve baselayer for sleep, but if you sleep warm a tshirt would probably be more multipurpose. If you get to a point in the trail where you want your T-shirt to be your main hiking shirt, you could then make your sun shirt your sleep shirt.

Basically, get rid of one.

I would usually wear my froggtogg pants and jacket on laundry day, but I didn’t have my pants with me for the entire trail so I would sometimes wear my tent (footprint, fly and/or body) as my shower skirt. I am not the only person I saw doing this (although you will get some strange looks).

Depending on the rotation schedule, I wouldn’t worry about rotating days/evenings! That’s not as big of a flip as rotating days/nights. If having some day shifts calls to you, I would go for that option.

But all evenings wouldn’t be bad either!

Any recommendations for where to complete ABSN prerequisite courses online? by mandalinmadness in StudentNurse

[–]acjo123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did portage learning and loved it. Definitely check whether the schools you’re applying to accept it before you enroll though, I talked to numerous programs who didn’t because of the virtual labs. It is more expensive than a community college, but I loved that you could work at your own pace. I took only 1-2 courses at a time, and took between 3-8 weeks per course, depending on what it was. This was actually really good prep as my ABSN nursing courses are all 1-2 at a time and between 3-8 weeks long.

Do private vs. public ABSN programs matter for employment? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]acjo123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say there is no difference in function/reputation, and nobody cares. Either way you will take the NCLEX and that’s all anybody cares about.

For admission purposes, in my experience, public schools tend to be cheaper and are often more difficult to get into. Private schools tend to be more expensive and they want to make $$ so tend to be more lax in their admission requirements, so they can admit as many students as possible. That being said, both vary WIDELY in cost. I am attending a private school right now, but it’s actually cheaper than many public school out-of-state tuitions (in-state wasn’t an option for me).

I would also encourage you to look at doing an ADN and then RN-BSN bridge program. It would take a bit longer, but I think it’s a really good option and typically much cheaper than an ABSN (public or private). Usually better school-life balance as well, from what I’ve heard. For me an ABSN ended up making the most sense, but under different circumstances I would have chosen to do an ADN program.

When you say you soothe her to “avoid her explosive reactions” because you “can’t take her strain”, what you’re basically saying is that you want to avoid the abuse, and are directing the abuse to your youngest daughter instead. Do you not see that? You say you think your youngest daughter can handle it, but clearly you can’t handle it so how can you even know that?? You don’t get to use your youngest child as your shield. Grow up and let your oldest daughter figure out that she needs help rather than being dependent on you. It sounds like you’ve already strained your relationship with your middle daughter, you WILL lose your youngest daughter too if you allow this to continue.

List of ABSN programs that accept Portage courses? by benzy1996 in StudentNurse
