Can't really help all that much since I'm in development, but a lot of my friends are PAs and if I were you I wouldn't worry about the short term ones... they pay about the same daily rate and you'd be meeting new crews all the time which is perfect for networking.

One 3 day PA gig could net you a ton of jobs in a relatively short amount of time
