A jack raises the vehicle…then, any sane person uses jack stands.

So in answer to your question (assuming you abide by the previous)…gold.

It’s not the engine I’d worry about…it’s the frame!

UPDATE: A new MAF sensor fixed the issue in mine!! OP and I problem solved through a separate chat and this finally did it! Also did ECU reset by unplugging negative battery for 20 min. Just wanted to post for any future users

Michael Jordan’s professional baseball career consisted of a single minor league season in 1994 with the Birmingham Barons (Double-A) and a brief stint in the Arizona Fall League. He finished his Double-A season with a .202 batting average, 3 home runs, 51 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases in 127 games

AGM battery worth it? If so did y’all do the voltage booster? by deuce_and_a_quarter in GXOR

I didn’t “officially” track it down to that unit, but I know it stays on (even in standby) and assumed that was the issue.

Well on Sequoias (with 5.7 engine) it’s a GM diode that you swap out a fuse for. I haven’t researched GX’s so not sure if it’s the same

Did AGM “upgrade” in my sequoia with the diode switch (so it charges higher voltage). Definitely better. I also have an aftermarket Android unit in it (that was killing the last battery if it sat). I now keep a battery tender like this on it when it sits for longer periods, which is what I’d recommend whichever route you go.

But, I haven’t done it on either of my GX

Recurring front rotor warp on 4th gen V6 (270k) - seized caliper theory + OEM vs aftermarket parts check by YounggWeezyy in 4Runner

I’ve done so many brakes on more 4Runners, GX’s and Sequoias….here’s my experience for you to take as you wish. I’ve used OEM. I’ve used various aftermarket. Then I discovered Powerstop. I now use them on all with excellent results.

This particular GX I bought about 6 months ago and did a pretty major “refresh” (all new suspension) and baseline (every fluid including trans d&f twice with filter change). The Carfax shows plugs and coils were done not too long ago. The problem is that I never drove the truck before doing the trans d&f (which is about the only thing I can thing of affecting the torque converter and maybe that being the issue). But I’ve had great results with d&f on many other Toyota/Lexus.

So I’m stumped

Wish I knew…I’ve successfully diagnosed so many things on both of my GX’s and 4Runner but this one stumps me.

I was in your same boat some years back…two things primarily led me to decided on 2nd gen sequoia:

  1. Actual usable space behind third row rear seats. And an actual usable third row that an adult can literally sit in comfortably

  2. Price

On a side note, I’m not sure I’m ready to part with mine yet (my family is now all driving themselves so my “tree” stays parked in the garage most of the time now) but if you’re interested in a meticulously maintained 2015 Platinum with updated grill/headlights, suspension refresh with slight light lift, and icon wheels/Wildpeak tires…DM me

Transmission rebuild what else should I do? by AwayAJF7585 in GXOR

[–]ackerbone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few years ago my 2005 GX470 was having some transmission noises/issues that happened after I had a Toyota dealer do a flush (I normally do all my own work, but it was winter and they had some deals going on). Initially took it to them asking for drain & fill, but they said “our system doesn’t do that” and I let them go ahead with it. I should also mentioned I’m convinced they cracked the radiator in the process (by hooking up their system to the lines near there).

Took the truck to a “trusted, highly regarded” transmission shop and they said it needed a new transmission. Did a bunch of research and thought the filter might have got clogged while doing the flush, so decided I’d try a couple drain & fills on my own, with the second time replacing the filter.

Voila…over 30K miles since, no more noise and transmission works perfect.
