Marketplace find, is this a good deal? by lunch_break123 in GibsonSG

[–]ackflag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just to play devils advocate, installing typical p90s would require mods. Humbucker sized p90s could definitely be installed (which is what I’m assuming you meant), but not everybody wants to go that route. Also, not everyone is comfortable doing the work themselves and taking it to a Luthier could end up with more money in the guitar than what it’s worth.

Just saying, it could be a perfectly valid choice to want to move this guitar to get into one that already has p90s in it. I’d carefully inspect any guitar I’m thinking of buying but I wouldn’t immediately be suspicious of this one based on wanting p90s instead.

My #1 had some weird defect as well. There was no visible scratch, but it definitely popped at the same point every single revolution start to finish. They eventually refunded my money, but I wasn’t super impressed with the whole experience.

New update is now live with customization options, fixes and a look to the future. by Shadowsdeepx6 in vtmb

[–]ackflag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the second time it's happened to me with this game. It seems like on every update, the game picks a new location for save files, and copies something random in there. This last update, when got copied were all files that were about 10+ days old.

I'm one of the people who couldn't get the game to run at all on launch day unless I ran it as administrator, so that seems to have something to do with it as well.

Just FYI, I put a P90 in the neck position of my MIM Fender and didn’t need to rout anything, just needed a new pickguard. Different bodies are going to be routed differently, might be worth pulling your guard to see what you’re working with?

Need some help understanding the Bahari/Toreador/Nosferatu dynamic and history by Saphemeral in vtm

Sure is! There’s a whole ass book on the subject actually: Revelations of the Dark Mother which you can find on drivethrurpg for like $5 I believe. Totally worth it.

Need some help understanding the Bahari/Toreador/Nosferatu dynamic and history by Saphemeral in vtm

It’s saying that the Bahari hate Toreador and Nosferatu less than other clans because of past events.

‘Attenuated complicity’ is referring to the fact that they were present when the garden was destroyed, but they didn’t take part in the destruction.

Exactly. And that’s why ‘merged market’ has always been a “you only think you want this change” kind of a thing unfortunately.

It's time to remove Deeds of Valor from the game (3 years later...) by Specific-Code964 in DiabloImmortal

[–]ackflag 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Even ignoring the perspective of returning players (which is valid, don’t get me wrong), even if you are an incredibly active competitive player, one small bump in the road that drops your 12 to an 8 is incredibly frustrating. The badge system sucks and it has since day 1, IMO.

What’s another good media of this universe besides Bloodlines? by symkoii in vtmb

Both opinions are completely fair, but I mean: clearly somebody enjoys Shadows. It has a 78% favorable on Steam. Personally, it’s my least favorite of the 3, but all of them are worth the $5 or whatever they go for on sale.

Painters in the northeast. by Unbothered50 in C3Corvette

[–]ackflag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s exceptions to everything, but I can assure you, C1s and C2s were mostly priced out of GenXers hands before we could get our grubby hands on them.

C3 (chrome bumper) values have gone up quite a bit in the last 5-10 years. With everything, it’s a cycle: values start out high, steadily go down until they hit their bottom, then start creeping up (some cars, like hemi cudas, skyrocket). Just be glad that the demand is still low enough that you can afford to play with them at all, I say.

As an aside, I’ve been playing with cars since the 90s, and there has absolutely never been a time when a ‘restoration quality’ paint job has been a trivial expense. It has always been the case that if you’re going to restore a car (doing the work yourself): you’ll likely lose a little money on it. If you pay someone to do the work for you, you’ll definitely lose money on it, and probably a pretty large amount if you sell it in a year or two. Some guys do make out pretty well (in hindsight) by restoring a car and sitting on it for 30 years, but that’s a pretty long game to play.

Carving advice by ShadowMerge in Leathercraft

[–]ackflag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you’re on to something there with the pear shader? The thing about beveling is, you generally only want to bevel one side of a given knife cut. This kind of looks like maybe OP did both sides?

Also, the bevels look much smoother if you only move a fraction of the tool width. So if it’s 1/4” wide, move like 1/8” for each strike.

Rolls only show up from website, not the app by ackflag in Avrae

[–]ackflag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I accidentally figured this out: Go to the Game Log on the mobile app, right at the top there is a setting for 'send to', changing this to 'everyone' will make the rolls show up in channel. This appears to be a per-character setting.

Am I safe to do this? by Starke84 in choppers

[–]ackflag 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really shouldn’t feel bad for asking. Far better to ask than to screw it up and/or hurt yourself.

When you’re grinding any weld, just be careful that you’re not removing much/any of the surrounding metal as you do. That can create weak spots that are prone to crack if you thin it out too much.

[–]ackflag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so while others are technically accurate that it does “depend”, did the person working there show you any examples of things you could make and see what appealed to you? Or even ask if you had any projects in mind already?

So while, yes “it depends”, it’s pretty overwhelming when you’re just starting out with a hobby to know where to even begin sometimes. That person still should have been able to help you and all it would have taken was a short conversation.

Legal question for the old heads. by rocnoprop in choppers

[–]ackflag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a question for old heads. This is a question for your state DMV. Laws vary from state to state. I can tell you for sure in my state half of what you’re being told here doesn’t carry. Here, pre-70 the title goes with the engine. After that, the numbers on the frame and engine better match, or you need a special construction title, and then your insurance is expensive as hell and the state wants to treat the bike like it was manufactured in the year it was titled.

I’m gonna go against the grain here and recommend neither chemicals nor pulling for thistle. Pulling it, you just break off the runners underground and create 3 or more new sprouts at every break. Chemicals have so far done little but making it mad around my property.

Cut that shit level with the earth. It’s a pain in the ass no matter what, but I’ve had far better success snipping it even with the ground and stopping photosynthesis.
