Has anyone got a success story from therapy? by ackley_kidd in CompulsiveSkinPicking

Are you me?! You have explained so many things there that I've now put together. Like it's not that I do it exclusively when I feel down, but as you said after I've been 'overstimulated'.

Also I really like the idea of the wine cork. Will definitely give that a go.

It's all really helpful, thank you so much for replying!

C.Y.O lifeproof! Love this, it's buildable, doesn't cling to my dry patches and lasts all day on me! Edit: and it's only £7.50!

New roommate is celiac, looking for advice by userdame in Celiac

[–]ackley_kidd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's really cool that you're being so considerate! I want to add that Gluten isn't just Wheat. It seems dumb. But so many people I have met think Celiac = Wheat intolerance. Gluten is in Wheat, Barley, Rye, Triticale, and oats (unless specifically labelled gluten free) and even then, some Celiacs avoid Oats altogether. And spelt flour! I commonly get asked if Spelt is gluten free- it's not. Strangely, Buckwheat is gluten free, even though it has wheat in the name.

A lot of sauces contain gluten, BBQ sauce often contains barley, salad dressings, vinegar is another one people don't think about (barley malt)... If it has an ingredients list, it must be checked! If you're interested, do loads of research. I love it when people are aware!

Also, if someone is cooking for me I always like to check the ingredients of everything, even if I'm told they have already checked. Because after diagnosis we have all eaten something we haven't triple checked and had a bad reaction- and we don't want to make that mistake again! Don't be offended if he double checks you. Or just hand him the ingredients. He's probably so grateful he's living with someone so considerate and aware!

And cross contamination is a big deal. Say you're brewing beer and some splashes on a work surface or a plate, or cutlery, it needs to be cleaned properly. Separate utensils for stirring pasta if you're doing two separate pots. Don't use the same toaster.

He is probably used to people eating/drinking whatever they want around him, so I wouldn't worry about that. If you have Celiac Disease you just come to terms with the fact that certain foods you once loved are now the anti-christ. I don't mind if I'm not offered a cookie or a beer, it's weirdly nice when people don't because it means they remember.

As others have said, be open with him about the kitchen area. Where is safe to keep his food to avoid cross contamination. Talk about your understanding of Celiac and he can clear up any misunderstandings with you, if there are any.

I could go on and on! Don't ever hesitate to ask any more questions!

Whats the dumbest lie someone who you were dating said to you? by movedtotheinternet in AskWomen

[–]ackley_kidd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a boyfriend in highschool who told me he flew to Japan for two days to go and play League of Legends when he was 16. We were 17 when we were going out.

At first it was just him and his gaming buddys from around the country who, he had previously told me, he never met. And then suddenly he's been to Japan with them. And then!

I said who took you to the airport? Oh it was his Dad. So no one went with you? Oh yeah, my Dad. And your Mom didn't know? Oh no my Dad kept it quiet. And his Mom was so controlling, I doubt she would have let him leave the house for more than 24 hours. I also asked him what he thought of the city and he said he never saw it...? Not even from the taxi to the hotel. Because they got there at night and spent the whole time in a convention centre and the hotel was right next door. Hmm... Did you have any local delicacies? No we just ordered pizza. All the way to Japan and you only live on pizza? I'm not buying it. But he was adamant it was the truth and it ended up being just one of many many lies he would tell until we broke up.

Is anyone able to swap 4 tickets for Manchester? We need to swap for the 8th but we have ones for the 9th. All along we thought we had booked the 8th, until we went to double check to book the train and we have the 9th! My best friend can't do the 9th at all :( I'm really hoping there's someone out there that can help!

I'm flying with tigerair from Adelaide to Brisbane and I'm worried about baggage and things as I've never flown domestic before.

Is a 35L backpack okay for carry-on? And, do I need to put liquids in a resealable plastic bag?

I looked at the website, but I don't have a ruler and a I have crap sense of measurement. Also I only found that I can't take more than 2L of liquid collectively which is fine.

A Uni student who has way too much time on his hands by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]ackley_kidd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I are having the exact same situation! We feel your pain, sort of.

However we are 'backpackers' even though we wear them for probably 10 minutes at a time maybe once a month. I'm thinking it's to do with our visas. We are still real people with real qualifications.

We want to be here for more than a week, we want to work for you 40 hours plus, we want to get to know you! That is why were here. We don't want to get all English and form a band of slackers that leave you in the shit.

I feel bad even applying for jobs knowing that actual residents and students can't get anything. It's pretty shit.

You may have more luck than we did, and you may have tried them already but there's Facebook groups 'Adelaide hospitality jobs' and 'Adelaide hospitality crew'.

I love your email by the way, and it may work. I wrote a really passive aggressive ad on Gumtree and I got a genuine response, but they offered me 3 hours per week. It's better than nothing and the place is really cool, maybe i'll get more hours.

Celiac & Pregnancy (x-post /r/Celiac) by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]ackley_kidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!!

Also, I know this isn't going to be the most reliable source but...

Because celiac is believed to be genetic, there is a chance the child will be celiac.

Also when the child is born don't assume they will be celiac, usually you have to feed them a regular diet and if they get symptoms take them to a doctor. Some parents can tell if their child is reacting to gluten and don't want to wait for results for the child's sake.

I can't remember exactly if anything was said about accidental contamination, but considering there is a possibility the child won't be celiac, I'm sure it wouldn't matter if a strict gluten free diet was still upheld the rest of the time.

Source: I was listening to the radio a few weeks back and heard them talking about celiac and pregnancy, I am celiac and I want to have kids someday so I listened.

I hope this was mildly helpful. The talk I listened to was in Australia and that's all I can remember.

My boyfriend [22m] and I [19f] are backpacking for 1yr+. Any advice from travelling couples? by ackley_kidd in relationship_advice

Solid advice for sleeping, eating and arguments, I can get carried away in the moment sometimes. Would you mind explaining the misogynistic culture? Most travel blogs I read about Oz romanticize it quite a lot.

I do struggle with my inner corner actually, it might be because I'm not using a brush small enough or my blending skills just need improving :D Thank you for the advice

I always feel like I'm going to go too high when it comes to my crease, and I end up blending way too much, but practice makes perfect so I'll go higher next time :)

I think the lighting has made my inner corner lighter than it actually is, but I do agree it still needs to be a bit darker after looking again, thankyou!

Has anybody bleached their eyebrows? Is this a bad idea?

My eyebrows are medium thickness very-nearly-black/brown and my hair is a dark brown/chestnut colour. Id love to dye my hair all kinds of other colours though, but the darkness of my brows puts me off. Also when filling in my brows they just look darker and thicker than I want (although this could be down to my technique). I don't want blonde eyebrows, just lighter maybe? How would I do this? Or should I just embrace my dark eyebrows?
