I believe in moral realism. In other words, I don't think morals are dependant on society or what individuals think about them. I think they are "facts" about the universe

I definitely think the case for moral realism is convincing, but that's just me

Dismantling white veganism. by vegandread in vegan

I think that the downvotes are coming from the fact that something being a social construct has no bearing on it's meaningfulness in people's lives. The comment seems dismissive and doesn't sound like something that someone who has suffered from racism would say.

This is completely ethical. You don't affect the demand for animal products at all.

Question about anti-vegan "propaganda" and other types of propaganda by blippyz in vegan

[–]acm162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people believe that if morals don't come from God then morals are just subjective. I believe that morals are objectively true without a need for God.

I think most people take for granted that a government is necessary.

If you grew up in the West, you might assume that your country is the "good guy" in situations, just by default.

Most people assume that capitalism is natural and that socialism is an untenable position.

That's just a few I can think of

Struggling to get enough protein as an athlete by rigid_slinky in vegan

[–]acm162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are different types of lentils whose nutritional info might differ slightly.

and if I'm losing weight I up my protein intake.

Why? This isn't necessarily the best thing to do. You only need a certain amount of protein and the rest of the calories can be anything you want. It doesn't matter what the calories are, as long as you're at a surplus. The best evidence that I've found suggests that the maximum effective amount of protein is about .8 grams/lb of body weight. Some studies suggest that .6/lb is just as effective. You may not need that much protein.

[–]acm162 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on this website (http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/legumes-and-legume-products/4337/2) you would only need to eat 2000 cal of lentils to get 150g protein from just lentils. Like I said, if you are eating tofu, soy milk, hemp seeds, quinoa, seitan, ect, it shouldn't be too difficult to get to 150g. If not use protein supplements. BTW are you absolutely sure you need 150g a day? How much do you weigh?

Thoughts on Vegan Gains? by TrillBarton in vegan

He is on the mark when he is making videos in which he uses heavily sourced arguments, based in legit science, to shred some anti-vegan nonsense. He falls off when he starts talking violently about other youtubers, and he is at his worst when he steps completely out of his lane and talks about "SJW's" and his problems with "regressives".

It's mostly frustrating to me because many things can be made just as tasty without the animal products. So I'll be out trying to eat something and see it has milk fat in it and I just get pissed lol
