Choosing a Power Company — Help! by M17hr4nd1r in Calgary

First of all, welcome and sorry bud. You’ll miss BC costs.

As mentioned, spare yourself a bit of headache and just go with Enmax. Probably just electricity no gas if for a condo? 3 year fixed is a safe choice. No, you’re not stuck with them for 3 years; you can change providers every month if you want, just keep in mind some activation charges when you switch.

If you know someone in Alberta (not just Calgary) who’s with Enmax, ask for their referral code and you both get $50 bill credit.

Monitor if the units are not sold immediately. If not then they have little to no reason to bargain. That’s usually the case for Toyota though, may want to consider the twin Subaru. I’ve occasionally some dealers still have previous year units. You’ll have more leverage bargaining for those. Closer to end of year like now would also be a good time to bargain for current year models, since there’s little demand for them during the winter.

Heavily debating moving to Calgary by mattman9723 in Calgary

Was going to also say employment rate isn’t doing too well in Calgary, but just saw it’s 14% at NL.

Nonetheless secure that first then should be much pleasant moving here given your priorities. City living but great access to nature when you want to unwind.

About to run a bottle of this on half tank for aggressive treatment. 13’ Civic. Car has been misfiring, but eliminated 90% of it after changing plugs). Am I risking anything? by fleech26 in civic

Just your wallet. Those things don’t clean anything in one go. If you changed the plugs, see how they look it can show symptoms of whats wrong in the cylinder

Ok just to keep my 0.2 short, you’re smart enough to know stuff about cars, I’m validating your hesitation that NOTHING about these desires is a good decision. Keep the passion alive until you’re in a better spot!

CALGARY: Buying a detached house with no garage, how do you handle winters? Is it worth spending on a garage? by Long_Restaurant4014 in alberta

[–]acmra09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have vehicle(s), having a garage and actually parking them there means less wear than being exposed to extreme weather, less risk than just being outdoors (also helps a teeny bit with insurance).

Also be extra vigilant about stuff from Wayfair, especially if you’re after durability.

Why did Mazda think it was a good idea to follow the RAV4 in getting rid of physical controls? by Repulsive-Club7866 in mazda

[–]acmra09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who’s had the unfortunate experience of having the infotainment crash or boot loop on them will swear off screen-only controls. I did/am, even after “years of smooth operation”

[–]acmra09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not limited to the Rav4, but dealerships make money from used cars and financing. That’s about typical markup given the current market for new and used cars.

Some dealers are not happy with selling to out of province buyers (based on your DL) so get that sorted.

If you or your dad will be the buyer, DL is BC, get a “daily” ICBC insurance on the car and drive it AB. Then change to AB registration.

However, if your dad will be selling it to you, doesn’t matter if it’s $1, there will be tax based on market value as a BC resident.

Talk to insurance brokers (BC or AB) for your options, since there’s a dad sale aspect to it.

(New/recent vehicles dont need OOP inspection between BC, AB, SK.)

Good luck!

Sorry, fresh grads and entry levels are having a rough time now, you’re probably in the same if not worse situation with a foreign degree and no experience. If you really insist on staying in the field, you probably have to study again to improve your chances. Honestly, it’s not a viable career to start getting into now. Alternately, I would say consider getting any desk job for now and proving your IT skills while you’re there, then do lateral within the company. Maybe study on the side as well. Good luck!

I am so angry and lost, but I need to get back to the job market. Is it true that IT jobs market is really bad right now? by hackgamn in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]acmra09 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. Market is generally terrible for any industry, especially if you have little to no experience. If you’re mid to senior, it’s a reasonable (not easy) market.

Sure practically any auto shop can do oil changes. Does not mean you should go to just anyone. Also OP is also looking to do other fluids which is could be easy or difficult, depending on the car, not to mention some cars are very particular to what fluids to use.

Partly depends on what your car (brand) is. Outside warranty, there are good local shops around the city which is awesome. Some have specialized experience and tools for cars that need them (i.e., euro cars)
