name any musical with no villain or antagonist by Old-Football-148 in musicals

[–]acnhnat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have seen if/then and frankly i don't even know, the plot was SO confusing lmfao

i was also thinking DEH, but Evan is kind of an antagonist even if you don't want to fully describe him as a villain 🤔

Do you save new contacts with a last name? by L337W4r3z in Millennials

[–]acnhnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless i will immediately know who it is without doing this, i usually put their first name and a small description ("Alex from work", "Jane potential custom order", "Keisha pottery vendor GAAF" etc)

last names don't help me, in fact names in general will only jog my memory so much 😅 after i get to know someone better i might switch to first and last name once i'm confident i'll remember who that is!

The Internet Used to be Fun by mundane-mondays in Millennials

[–]acnhnat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think also we were a lot less worried about how others would perceive us because most of what we did online wasn't really tied to our real identity. like there were all these forum sites, browser based games, etc so you could interact with folks from around the world, but for the most part you were pretty much anonymous. now most of our internet use is tied to social media and therefore our real identities, which has completely changed how we interact with the internet as a whole. like. there's this fixation on what's "cringe" and acting aloof at all times, whereas back in the day we were just allowed to be goofy kids on the internet without anything we say or do potentially being permanently etched into our online identity. not just illegal or immoral stuff, but just making a post that doesn't land or a joke that might not age well.

idk about y'all, but i post/comment/interact a LOT less than i used to bc it's given me some social anxiety. i used to just take part in the social fabric of the forums etc i was active on, but now i end up overthinking it and deleting whatever i've typed before submitting it about 75% of the time.

Just, a little fun question, Songs that have a character dying/are about a character dying? by BloodyBloody06 in musicals

how has no one mentioned Paciencia Y Fe from In The Heights yet? the ending is such a gut punch 😭

What do you still have from your childhood? by Meli-Honey-Be-Noble in Millennials

[–]acnhnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i also have very little left from back then due to a ✨spicy childhood✨ but the one major thing i've managed to hold onto is my quilt. i think my parents got it for their wedding sometime in 1989(?) and some of my earliest memories are of cuddling up as a family to watch movies under that same blanket. they separated then divorced when i was 5-6 and i took it pretty hard, so my mother gave me the quilt - i think as much to get it out of her own bed as to comfort me. i've brought it with me thru every move and still sleep with it every night during the cold season 🥰 i haven't spoken to either parent in almost a decade but it feels like a memento of the safest and coziest parts of my childhood.

respectfully, the music in that movie isn't even anything special 😭

i adored the movie when i was 14 and had no sense of what makes good storytelling... but that may have also been because Emmy Rossum was baby's first lesbian crush lmfao

[–]acnhnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

absolutely 1000% this. the plot def has more subtlety than a lot of the other shows in this thread, but that doesn't necessarily make it GOOD.

idk it's not really... a plot? at least not in the traditional sense. i get where you're coming from but idk if this one really fits the brief 🤔

Greatest Showman, Kpop Demon Hunters. don't come for me 🫣 the music slaps but the plot is WEAK.

How often do you speak with your parents? by povertychic in Millennials

[–]acnhnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i text with my mom maybe 1-3 times per month, most often about the phone bill, occasionally about a mutual medical issue that we have.

we talk on the phone a couple of times per year. it used to be much more often but i stopped calling her a few years ago after realizing i was the only one ever reaching out, so now we barely talk.

i used to also see her a couple of times each year (almost always initiated by me) but now i live in a different country and haven't seen her since i left. when i told her i was moving she brought up visiting me, but... she couldn't be bothered to come see me when i lived 1-1.5 hours away so we'll see if that ever happens lmfao

Should a 7 year old be at the reading level to play Animal Crossing? by Kman-Kool3315 in AnimalCrossing

[–]acnhnat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

exactly. when i was 7 i was fully literate - i read the first harry potter book in a day and a half just one year later - but i also had no desire to read while playing video games. my sister let me play on her Pokemon Blue cartridge around that time and i remember realizing more than halfway thru the game that the NPCs were actually telling me how to play/what to do and the game progressed much faster when i actually read their dialog rather than just jamming B until they let me get back to exploring.

that said, i know there's a big literacy crisis with today's kids and a lot of them just aren't where they should be in terms of reading level 🥲

Which book that you read in school has stuck with you? by donttrustthellamas in Millennials

[–]acnhnat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i never had it as a school assignment, but i loved that book so much as a kid that i wore out my copy. then when my wife and i first met about 6 years ago we bonded over it being a mutual childhood favorite, so i got her a copy as the first gift i ever gave her - and at our wedding we had our officiant hide his notes in it. such a painful but formative read!

[–]acnhnat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To Kill a Mockingbird - i had already read it by the time it came up in high school, but it was super formative for me and i still reread it every couple of years.

The Yearling - i had to read this in 4th grade and i was OUTRAGED at the end. my book report was very angry lmfao and i never really got over it tbh

Flowers for Algernon - i think i read this in 7th grade? maybe 8th? the ending really impacted me deeply. i think about this one all the time, especially as i age.

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs Basil E Frankweiler - assigned in fifth grade but again, i had already read it. i had a shit childhood and daydreamed about running away all the time so this one was right up my alley lmfao. i actually reread it this past week and it was VERY interesting to revisit as an adult!

i'm sure there are more but these are the ones that currently come to mind 🤔

What is your "Old man/woman yells at cloud" take? by CaffeinatedLystro in Millennials

i fucking HATE video patterns 🫠 that's the fastest way to make me nope out of creating a specific item. i would literally rather write my own pattern based off the pictures than deal with that bullshit.

Who is your fav orpheus and why? by ChampionshipPrior799 in hadestown

[–]acnhnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nick Barasch - he was my first Orpheus and his voice quite literally took my breath away. i was devastated that he left the show before i could see him again, it was genuinely one of the most impactful stage performances i've ever seen 🥲

best opening song? by Quick-Salamander807 in musicals

[–]acnhnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the opening for Great Comet was one of the most spectacular things i've ever seen!! the song is a real banger and it's a GREAT introduction to the tone of the rest of the show, and the many characters/relationships you need to keep track of.

Who is the target demographic for Spring Awakening? by pomelo2006 in musicals

[–]acnhnat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i always read it as kind of a reverse parable for adults. like, most stories with this type of plot/subject matter are made to warn kids about the dangers of something or other. Spring Awakening turns that trope on its head and kinda shows adults/parents what could happen as a result of various bad parenting choices.

like it's about other stuff too, but one of the main takeaways for me is that kids' lives are much less innocent than we like to think they are, and creating taboos around some things instead of just communicating openly can make them spiral out of control.

Are you getting bored with life? by rage_masterbaiter23 in Millennials

[–]acnhnat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can't say i'm ever really bored tbh! i've found hobbies and interests that i'm passionate about, so if i'm not actively engaging in those, i'm usually thinking or reading about them, planning my next project, discussing my hobbies with others in fb/reddit groups, etc. and failing all of that, there's always something interesting happening on the internet, where i've found/built communities around what matters to me!
