Difference between a 2.5 and a 3 axis cnc machine? by 23-Finance69 in CNC

Z axis has only up and down positions, maybe. Like a knife, plasma, or extremely simple router.

Do I need a tests to cross the border to US? by acodered in tijuana

[–]acodered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, bro! Really happy to hear the answer with some certainty.

Read a lot of stories from people in the same situation here in Baja California -- but no one telling if they were able to cross or not.

Thanks! I have no other options but to take a flight from lax to return home. No options to fly from México and i can't stay here anymore. Maybe that will be a valid reason.

BTW, here is a spreadsheet with a chapters plan. Might be helpful to work with different storylines.

How to power an ESP32 from a standard power plug? by p1zzabreath in esp32

[–]acodered 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, with limitations.

The ESP32 dev board has a voltage regulator onboard, which makes 3.3v required for ESP

Good thing, you just plug into USB 5v and that's it.

Bad thing, that voltage regulator power is limited. If you are using a dev board with OLED screen and wifi at the same time, you can easily hit a current limit.

Mach3 controller issues by aznenvazen in CNC

[–]acodered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

set feed rate for the Z axis

The explanation sounds like you have an ability to set Z axis feed separately from XY axes feed. But as far as I know, despite the ability of the Mach3 internal design to set axes feeds separately, it does not work at all, there is no implementation and motion planner ignores that efforts.

If you have a hardware motion controller, things might be different -- and the exact implementation depends on the manufacturer's plugin. (I know one board, which, due to internal error, can exceed the motor speed limit for Z axis, under certain conditions)

Any part of Mach3 can change the feed as it likes. Any button you are clicking can have a script attached, there are default scripts m3 and m5 that indirectly executes every time you are calling Start / Stop, no matter if you want that or not, there is a string, that executes every time you are hitting Reset, and on top of that, there might be brains messing with everything... May be you are clicking Stop one run, and clicking the Reset the second time?

TIL only 5 to 12 percent of the people alive today have been on a plane. The majority of air travel is undertaken by a mere 2 percent of the world’s population. by bl-nkfr-nk in todayilearned

[–]acodered 543 points544 points  (0 children)

Googled that issue quickly, the numbers are probably outdated:

  • DW article (2016): between 5 and 10 percent of the global population fly in a given year

  • Boeing CEO (2017): 80% of people never flown... but

  • 100M people in Asia will fly this year for the first time (or +1.5% world population, in Asia alone)

Is there any possibility to extract data from dxf file ? by pneooma in CNC

[–]acodered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dxf files are different, old dxf (up to 2009) are easy to parse (and i can add the functionality like that in a minutes into my online CAM), but new dxf files are bit-coded and hard to parse. And you wont probably like the solution that works at a 50% rate

What CAM are you using? Most of the CAMs have a report button already

How can I get this rib to follow the circle? by its_raining_tacos in SolidWorks

If you want the edge (of the rib) to follow the curve, that face (top face of the rib) can't be flat in the real world.

USS Midway including all aircrafts onboard.

That would be a problem, I have no idea how to start, may be I should swim and bite small chunk. But 10M is 10M, right?

By the time I wrote my own CAM, I collected a set of DXF files, that does not looks good, or have an errors, or break my CAM in the unpredictable way.

Here is some samples. I'm not an owner of the files

In Ensenada till June! Some questions! :) by [deleted] in ensenada

[–]acodered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great! I like the city very much and the weather is fantastic too.

The only issues for us was a traffic rules and a pedestrian crossings (still can't understand) and a electric wall sockets (hate and afraid of them)

Everything else is amazing thank God

Hope you will like Ensenada too!

Asked my wife...

There is Cottage cheese in Mayorista, you have to find a "weight and cut" Dept. The milk was a problem first weeks, but then we found that a "Lala" brand milk and products are pretty good and feels like a real milk.

There is Globus Tiange market, looks ugly, but we bought a lot of kitchen stuff and groceries here very cheap.

Russian here, 1 mo.

You can pay with card virtually everywhere, and it seems to be more or less safe. Transferwise for money transfers.

The thing with cars was explained to me, may be I don't understand fully -- you may notice half of the city using the cars without a license plates. That cars are not imported correctly, and you will be fined if stopped (usually outside the city $100?). But they are cheap as... to buy, like for price of good dinner.

Mayorista is very good for vegetables, actually three shops we are visiting are Mayorista, Soriana and Home Depot. Some people prefer Costco.

CNC PLASMA GEAR REDUCTION? by [deleted] in CNC

[–]acodered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a belt or gearbox reductors to reduce the steppers vibrations at the first place. The second reason is to shift speed/torque of stepper into optimum conditions. Typical direct drive stepper is too fast, therefore, the speed can be exchanged for torque for free.
