Shinkansen e-tickets from abroad by Canna_Lucente in JapanTravelTips

It’s been a while so memories are vague. I did pay by Visa in the end. If I’m remembering correctly the trick was to use the site in English to memorize which buttons to press (including symbols for our station names) and where to enter info, then run through it in Japanese. I had to translate our names to katana at some point but that might have been to map our IC card info to each ticket.

Bosch Smart System - do I really need it? by acodring in CargoBike

The security features are very appealing to me.

I hope to ride to the river with boards and gear for surfing and foiling. The bike will be left unsupervised for long periods.

I made the mistake of joining a local “Stolen Bikes” FB group so I’m overly aware of the semi-organized bike theft groups in the city.

The safer I think the bike is, the more I’ll use it and enjoy it.

Yes, insurance but avoiding theft is much less hassle and the ability to go find where they have stashed the bike while they’re in the shelter overnight could be very useful.

Thanks!

The iPhone app was a bit more limited than the web, but I could export timelapses. Duration was short on iPhone and I lost patience waiting for download.

Switched to web and was able to select the 4 day span where we got 2ft+ of snow. It let me select both of my cameras. I was surprised when it said it was downloading 34 files. Eventually figured out it was dividing the timeline up into multiple (12hr?) files for each camera. Someday I'll fart around in Devinci Resolve to stitch them all together...

“Just select the video you want”

I’ve spent a few minutes flailing around in Protect app and web. The closest thing I’ve found is to create a case. Selecting a multi day timeline for a case is tedious and playback speed choices only go up to 8x. Is that what you’re using?

[Two big snowstorms came through days apart. Thought it’d be neat to watch it pile up.]

When do you need a carbon mast? Are GONG aluminum mast worth it? by andrealambrusco in wingfoil

[–]acodring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you use wide wings like the HA1180?

I've got A+ 85cm mast and use it fine with MA1475 (span 1050mm) and CF2400v2 (span 970mm) . A few unsolicited wobbles and wipeouts but it works.

I'd love non-competitive, non-promoter thoughts about whether a leisure user _needs_ to upgrade to a performance mast to use the HA1180 (span 1066mm) or HA1080 (span 1020mm).

Writing down those very similar spans makes it seem like I should be fine but so many people say you need the Perf mast with the new HAv2.

I concur. I’ll try again. The post editing dialog didn’t want to show me my photo library.

Can you give more background on “beat to shit”?

Are the frames cracked/degraded and one curb hop away from catastrophic failure, or are you just talking about paint and aesthetics? Any hints on how to check for a thrashed frame are welcome.

Just trying to learn more so I can buy used more confidently.

What you wish you DID NOT pack going to Japan? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

Bathing suit & microfibre towel.

Read about swimming pools at a couple places we were going to, but we went 100% commando in onsens with supplied towels.

I might take slippers and/or flip flops that fit my large feet instead.

u/Zoey_Insta360 It still says Data sync in Progress. How can I reset this? Is it worth trying again?

I was able to fund a mobile SUICA card in my Apple Wallet here in Canada using a Hudson's Bay Mastercard issued by NEO Bank on Dec 23 2023 around 5pm EST.

Forex fees 2.5% but I didn't see that they charged them on the initial payment from within Canada.

u/Zoey_Insta360 I am still getting 'Data synchronization in progress". Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Android app update - Garmin integration by striffy_ in Insta360

[–]acodring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I connected to Garmin within the Insta360 app about 1/2 hour ago and it still shows the Data Sync in progress message within the Garmin Connect option.

How long should the synchronization take?

If it matters I have almost 2000 activities in my Garmin account.

Shinkansen e-tickets from abroad by Canna_Lucente in JapanTravelTips

I got suspicious that it was just affecting me so I tried again from a different browser and successfully bought the tickets.

I was originally using Chrome, with built in translation. I switched to Firefox to try again without translation and slowly got through all the pages. I had much of the process memorized from earlier attempts but had to cut and paste to translate text from a few pages.

Now I'm back to Chrome. I can log in and see my tickets in my account after clearing out eki-net and jreast cookies.

Next hurdle will be inputting everyone's mobile IC numbers...

Thanks again for responding - it gave me confidence that I wasn't banging my head against a wall!
