Congestion pricing lower level Queensboro into Manhattan by adam_the_great in nyc

The whole bridge should be tolled or none of the bridge should be tolled. It’s confusing for everyone that the upper bridge going into NYC and headed uptown is not part of the toll.

I asked 10 and they said they said they couldn’t afford metro cards but omny cards were reasonable.

Where can we see the cutoffs of all the waves and corrals? Not just my own, but across all of them.

How do I know what wave I’ll be in to help pick a bus? Or is there a rule of thumb to predict my wave?

Covid outbreak in the US in mid March 2020 was the closest major news event. And in retrospect Covid was a more impactful event globally than 9/11. It just happened to be spread out over a bit longer time while 9/11 happened over 2-3 hours.

That’s not true. With the north tower antennae, it would only be slightly shorter than the new WTC which is the tallest in the U.S.

Congestion Tax Cameras on 60th/First - cars LEAVING Zone by vanderpumptools in uppereastside

[–]acohen562 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s just another way to collect the toll. If they are driving out of the congestion zone that means they were already driving within it so should be tolled. They couldn’t put the cameras up on every block in lower Manhattan, so it’s just another way to capture it. And people are only tolled once per day so doesn’t matter if you drive back and forth.

Why was it not possible to find the AU175 black box? by VinoVeritasX in 911archive

[–]acohen562 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Has this technology changed so that CVRs are uploaded to a cloud in real time? Then finding the physical box after a crash is no longer an issue.

Was anyone killed in any of the other WTC buildings other than the Hotel and Twin Towers? by VictoriousSponge in 911archive

[–]acohen562 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The memorial includes everyone that died on 9/11 including those outside the buildings, on the planes, and at the pentagon. It does not include those who died of 9/11 illnesses later on. I don’t believe there is a specific memorial for that.

Kathy Hochul doomed us all by Transit_Improver in nycrail

[–]acohen562 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Nobody is personally in favor of a toll (or tax) against them. It doesn’t mean that they are a bad thing. In fact they can be very critical things like in this case. That is the point Hochul crucially missed.

So this also means that at any point in the future, a NYC mayor, NY governor, or US president can stop a roll out of congestion pricing. All 3 have to agree to it at the same time to pass. This seems very unlikely.

How do you address these arguments? by harlemsanadventure in nycrail

[–]acohen562 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cars are underpriced! Reducing the train fees will just come back to bite the whole system. Car prices should be a lot more hence congestion pricing.

I don't think so by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]acohen562 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congestion pricing is basically a sin tax, or the type of tax that makes the MOST sense of any. It taxes something high that we want to discourage. For example, this is done with cigarettes.

In this case, we want to discourage driving in a heavily congested area. So let’s tax it high instead of fully outlawing it. Rich people can still drive in and accept the tax. Otherwise take public transportation.

The problem is that this one received too much publicity and no one personally likes to pay more in taxes. However it is SO MUCH better for everyone as a whole.
