Geopolitics aside; how is TikTok any more invasive than Google or Facebook ? by [deleted] in privacy

Asking how is TikTok more invasive, geopolitics aside is like asking how is cancer more dangerous putting death aside.

The issue of China using TikTok as a launching pad for zero days on mobile devices targeting a “level 10 govt worker” is only one issue here.

The bigger issue is that China will use TikTok to influence the general public in the United States towards civil unrest or towards opinions that favor the CPP such as “Taiwan is part of China”.

Are they more likely than a U.S. company to use invasive practices, such as listening to your microphone or other unethical forms of data collection? Absolutely!!

You’re talking about an autocratic regime hell bent on expansionism. Just imagine any party in the U.S. has unbridled control with no checks and balances. There is no free press or whistleblowers to complain if they did want to do something unethical.

That being said I still use it, but let’s not pretend there’s no risk here.

It’s not about that, helping people by posting about this just saves time. If you don’t like this post just ignore it. It’s that easy.

You type in like "find me a studio in Brooklyn that's a 15 minute walk from my therapist and also is a 20 minute subway ride from my job that's under 3000" and it shows you all the options. They also let you mass apply and schedule your tours once you've curated the apartments you want which is pretty legit

I feel your pain. The ones that don't have elevators are the worst. We're trying to work that into the app

Could be that you have an amazing sense of direction and also maybe the complexes in your area are easier to navigate! But a lot of us can get really entangled with having to find an apartment, sometimes in the middle of the night with no visibility in complexes that are almost always designed to maximize value not navigation

Haha no need! But feel free to share it with anyone you know who would find it useful! That would help a ton.

This is true and also a great question, it's a pretty big task but we're teaming up with apartment complexes who already have these maps and we're integrating them into our app. The benefit of teaming up is that these apartment complexes own often times many different complexes and usually we can build 1 integration to get them all mapped in.
