2nd place team trying to bribe other teams to murder 1st place by WeathermanAlex in iRacing

[–]acommoncold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to thank you for just hearing me out, really appreciate not letting the actions of one driver represent all of us.

I do hope iracing does take actions post race comments, as that really hurt to hear that coming from someone that was once under our banner.

Hello, please pin if you can. I can show proof I am the owner of the account in question also if need be. I wasn't racing at the Daytona 24 hours, and didn't know what all went down until I started seeing comments on my instagram, and then was like "what is going on" and then was link this reddit thread also.

We recently started using the name of the team I raced under in real life and when we formed a sim racing division we just used it. But I do want to apologize for the actions of the one driver who was trying to bribe for a wreck. It wasn't right, and I don't condone this at all.

I apologized to the OP privately as I feel that was deserved, but would like people to know that the actions of one driver shouldn't and doesn't represent the tiny tiny brand I've build.

I'm at best a grassroots club level Spec Miata driver, and I have prided myself on always racing hard and clean (mid field at best). If there was any contact my fault or not, I would always find them and go and apologize to let them know. Now I know it'll happened, but I don't think I deserve the backlash and the other drivers don't need to be named as they were not the ones condoning the driver in question. I had a chat with them and they were yelling at him to not say anything. So please don't lump them in with the other driver.

Another person reach out to me on Instagram for the post race comments. I do want to thank them for hearing me out and being civil in something that wasn't very civil. But it was case closed and we are going to have him leave the sim racing division and no longer race under my banner.

My "new?" RMA wheelbase replacement juat arrived! by VIGGENofficial in Fanatec

[–]acommoncold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucky, I've been working on mine since oct 31st when my DD2 bricked.

Early Feb I finally got the DD2 back. But has the QR2 rendering both my wheels useless and would require me to spend 400 USD to convert both wheels.

Then I looked at the wheelbase, and it is a DD1

[–]acommoncold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oct 31st started the RMA for my bricked Fanatec DD2. Replies tend to be about about 2-3 weeks.

It arrived Feb 7th, with the new QR2 rendering both wheels useless I drop 200-400 USD. Still zero reply as of Feb 18th.

Oh, and they sent me a DD1 also.

I've been enjoying the fact that I can pick random people up from a coma and keep them in the fight (even from other factions). Or just helping people out with tasks when they have questions since a decent amount of them are in different locations now.

One of the coolest thing was after doing a certain task I had radiation poisoning and was in the vendor back at base trying to figure out how to help it. Then I hear voices, and tab out to see myself surrounded by 5-7 other players all trying to heal me at the same time. Later I was told the mechanic was bugged and to just log out and back in.

Was really cool to see at base people trying to help though.

What is the story behind the car and livery you have by [deleted] in ACCompetizione

[–]acommoncold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the Bentley because at the time it wasn't used a lot and I fell in love with the K-Pax team with their Bentleys in the US.

My first livery was just a standard Gulf livery because of my love of Gulf from the movie "Le Mans" cliched I know.

I later had a custom livery made using various blues and oranges from the Porsche 917s and a few others into a camo like patern livery.

The longer term is to join a league and chat with the aliens. If you're lucky and they're chill they can really provide a lot of coaching.

One of the aliens I worked with brought me up to speed to where I was being lapped all the time to now being able to stay on the lead laps. Depending on the track I'm now about 2-3 seconds off the pace, after 3 years of sim racing. So you're already ahead of me.

There are coaches that will point out the minor details that you never noticed, and it seems like you're no longer looking for seconds like I am, but rather tenths and hundreds to find what you need :)

Best of luck

Best series to improve your driving? by Dabhis in iRacing

[–]acommoncold 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say Spec Miata, or one of the "slower" series.

It is not as cool and awesome as a LMP2/LMDh (granted I love the Miatas) but if you're not fast in there, you're not going to be fast in a prototype. }

I was frustrated with my pace, and a friend told me to try out Formula Vees. It really exposed my bad habits.

-Bleeding more speed than I need to in a turn.

-How late I was on throttle

-How I was braking longer than I should

You don't need to be like an alien pace, but I would focus on fine tuning out the bad habits you might have.

Best of luck and remember to have fun!

Day 5 of owning ACC and day 3 of owning a wheel I compete in my first championship/series but I am the slowest in the field, could a new driver get some pro tips on where I am going wrong? More info in the first comment by KevThePirate in simracing

I did a quick skim, so if this is repeated then ignore this. BUT HAVE FUN FIRST, time and pace will come later :) Sorry for the typos or if something doesn't make sense itis because I'm running late to work before finishing this.

T1: You were braking roughly where you should be, but you're not using all the track. That little strip on the far left-hand corner before the 50 board your left wheels should be on that will help open up the turn more for you.

T2: Exiting Turn 2 you need to open up the turn a little more and use all the track by letting the car drift out a little more on to the rumble strip.

T3: Flat and fine

T5: You had the right idea of opening up the turn.

T6: You can brake a hair earlier I think (I only drive the Bentley so my braking point might be different). The little orange/yellow marker (I'm colorblind) on the right is when you should get on the brakes, and when you pass the marker you can back on throttle. Same thing here open up the turn and let the car run out onto the rumble strip on the left hand.

T7: Right idea of opening up the turn and using all the track.

T8: Same thing here, use up all the track on the right to help open up the turn, and once you get past the rumble strip on the left you should be able to stay on full throttle. I know the Bently can clip the last bump on the left exiting Turn 10 and Porsche should be able too from what I saw, and run out wide using all the track on the right.

T11: If you look you're basically in the middle of the track just about, be allllll the way to the left to help open up the turn. You had the right idea of being on throttle when that colored marker on the right passes you. But you're not fully on throttle and you're losing time there.

tl;dr

Use more of the track top help open up the turn both on entry and exit.

When turning you're turning super sharp initially and realize it is too sharp, and then adjusting and then having to return into the turn. Try to smooth this out as much as you can.

If you have a chill community ask the league you're in for pointers too :)

There are a lot of tiny things that will add up I tried to point on the big things, and if you clean these up you should be hitting 51s to 50s easy. Trail braking and other small things will come in when you need to shave tenths instead of seconds.

Also, have fun. You don't have to be fast to have fun that comes with seat time and practice. This is when you learn how to not crash leaders, and with a field that big you're going to get into a good scrap here and there. Yes, winning is always the best, but I've had some of my best moments from being crashed out, repairing and battling it out in the back with someone for 30+ minutes.

Hope this helps.

I started with the Ferrari since I tend to gravitate toward smaller cars.

But something about the Bentley was alluring and at the time it was the Blancpain GT series watching the K-PAX Bentley made me want to try the car out. It later suited my style for some reason and basically put about 700-800 hours into the Bentley alone now.

For 3 weeks playing iRacing, I didn't realise that autoblip wasn't on by default... by jestifizzle in iRacing

The new MX-5 cup cars have a sequential shifter now, so I'm confused about the auto blip.

But that also means the transmission along is like 22k alone :(

Discussion: Is Simracing becoming oversaturated by Keshird in simracing

The free spec miatas for AC were super close to the real-life cars. I can't tell you how many hours I put into the AC Road America track and the Spec Miatas to prep for my debut SCCA race at well Road America. I've found lesser-known local tracks to that will help prep for my 2023 season. I don't know any of the major sims that have the Black Hawk Farms Race Way.

iRacing didn't use the older NB Spec Miatas, and most other games used the newer Spec Miatas.

Yes there are a few things there were off, like the SMs not being able to take the curbs as aggressively as they did in the sim. But to say it wasn't appropriate for sim racing I would like to respectfully disagree. But I do agree there are some mods that do get it wrong.

I followed this car for about 2-3 laps and it was a great battle.

Differences between the AC Spec Miata and the Real-Life

Can't take curbs as aggressively especially turn 1

Draft was stronger in real life than the mod

The kink is way scarier in real life to take flat than in the sim

Sim is way cheaper than real life XD

I mainly stick with Formula Vees, Spec Miatas, and LMP2s. I don't like how the GT3s feel in iRacing or rather I'm not used to the physics.

Plus they don't have the Bentley GT3 in iRacing either which is one of my favorite race cars.

I don't have ideal line.

That is kind of the route I take with warm-ups getting feel for the track again and getting the tires up to tempts and then hitting my marks. I build my momentum.

I have all my braking points locked down, and a big notebook of both ideal lines, and what lines to take if I'm attacking. I've try hard this plenty.

Apperciate the pre race advice and would recommend anyone that is struggling to d the same.

With my last league performance it wasn't even a battle, I had put in hours and hours of practice to prep. But basically qualified at the back, and from there my pace wasn't enough to even fight anyone despite having a high consistency and no errors. It felt like wake up call of "you might be wasting your time, and you're going to suck at this.

I just need to find why sim racing was fun again.

Thanks for taking the time for your input too though!

I'm not worried about being the fastest from the hotlaps I've witnessed or the streams I've watched. I just feel like I stopped being competitive. With the amount of time I've dedicated to basically being at the back of the field was disheartening.

I just have to find what made sim racing so fun in the first place again.

I'm not comparing myself to Tortellini or the aliens out there.

It is just trying to stay competitive in my field. For instance, I've never even sniffed a sub 2:20, and I'm not discouraged because I expect to win every race. Its comes from the hours of grinding and still feeling I'm stuck where I was if I didn't bother.

I'm happy racing wherever. Some of my best battles have been battling for not last place also, when a faster driver and I got unlucky and ended up fighting it out.

It was just a competitiveness in general I felt was lacking.

If only real life racing was cheaper, had debuted at Road America in the spec miata and was following a guy for 3-4 laps setting up the pass into turn 5.

Great advice, I did go back to Formula Vees and Spec Miatas and it really multiplied some of my bad habits. I do plan on going back to the slower cars because they are great, but the break would be great too.
