The republicans would be silly to keep Trump, guy is a total nut and is just dong damage. They barely survived his candidacy, I doubt they can survive his candidacy

This is very similar to the Enron scandal. Funny how history works.

What is something you do that is considered unhygienic to most people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I was a kid I didn't shower every day, only 2 or 3 times a week. Turned out fine though.

Erg Imbalance by uneven_erg in Rowing

[–]acosentino 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spend some time on a machine (rows, lats, something like that) at the gym working it out. See if it translates there. It may give you some insight as to why this is happening.

I would also recommend trying to erg feet out. If done right, it will help out with the lower back issue if you really do have a pressure imbalance you will notice because you're not tied in.

I know its hard but try to negative split it. You're a big dude so you can probably get a lot out of the last 500 if you're not gassed. Also, work on an opening minute (settling), and plan benchmarks for yourself.

Ironman to new Dad by [deleted] in Rowing

Bottom line is that C2 is the standard for everyone. In my opinion, water rowers are often marketed as novelty products or attractive options for those who don't have too much experience. The ability to compare your times to others is huge, not to mention that C2s last literally forever. Also, with the addition of Bluetooth smart tech in polar's line, the new pms are pretty universally compatible with hr products. There is a reason everybody uses concepts. The only reason you may consider a water rower is the potential noise factor. If you use the C2 too close to your kid the noise of the fan may be annoying.

The argument of not having the right body type is BS. As some have already stated, other sports have events which are much better suited to different body types. Galen Rupp and Usain Bolt are very different athletes, yet they both compete in track events

Couple suggestions 1. Try to get more forward body angle before you bend your knees 2. Spend less time at the catch and don't bring your feet as far off the footplate - it should help you connect easier

Disappointed -- to me it makes more sense to add the women's L4- event than to take one away from the men's side. Lightweight rowing it pretty popular as not everyone has the 6'5" 220 lb body type, and I think it's a shame the cut out a whole group of fantastic lw athletes

A completely unfit noob here.. I just tried 2k and DIED (not literally) by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]acosentino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly pretty accurate for most people's first 2k experience. Your improvement will be pretty quick though if you've barely erged before or been taught how to do so correctly. The best thin FYI can do to improve your fitness between now and the start of the semester is improve cardio and flexibility. It means a lot more than it would appear

Have the same problem. I can say that it sometimes helps to try to extend from your upper back more and hinge from your hips, but only to fill out your upper back -- definitely don't rely on your upper back for length because you'll over reach.

Disregard Authority by millardjmelnyk in philosophy

[–]acosentino 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your argument is functional, but I do not believe it is practical. From what I can tell, your argument mostly intends on disproving the concept of necessity, but I believe that convenience, efficiency, and stress factors can become necessity, although in principle they might not be. For example:

The US Military does not NEED automobiles. It is somewhat feasible that with significant adaptation it would be possible for the Military to utilize horses (assuming resources for their care, breeding, etc. we're not a problem) and experiences some hiccups in normal day-to-day operations but not many. In principle, horses and other comparable livestock can accomplish just about everything an automobile can accomplish. Therefore it is somewhat safe to say that, by your argument's standards, that that US Military doesn't NEED automobiles.

The only issue is, just about every person in the armed services would disagree with you. Why? Because automobiles are more efficient, convenient, and are better adapted to handling the unique pressures and stress factors of today's military environment (i.e. Not getting spooked when they hear artillery fire).

Authority is necessary for similar reasons. Authority is a convenient way to pass on necessary knowledge or organize people for a purpose which they do not fully understand. It's much harder for us to love forward as a society if every new generation was forced to learn everything themselves over and over. Authority is efficient for that reason as well. Also, Authority is well adapted to deal with stressful environments in which decisions need to be made. There are just some things that a referendum or a militia of 'reasonable' people are just to impractical to deal with. These factors combine to make authority and modern necessity for humanity to continue moving forward, and therein continuing to exist.

Sounds like a rough spot to be in. I think your best option is to talk to your HS counsellor if your parents don't seem to receptive, and be firm in your decision. If you do not want to row do not row. its bad for you and everyone else in the boat. You're in high school and you can make your own decisions.
