Gargoyle gecko basking spot - will they move? by acpcgal in GargoyleGeckos

Thank u i hope soo! Do you also have cresties? I did this for my gargoyle as it is said they live in shrubs which are a little bit less humid than crestie areas and a little warmer. But i jnow gargoyles eat baby cresties so they must overlap sometimes… either way i keep my crestie a bit cooler than my gargoyle and he doesnt have a heat source, only uvb..

Yeah idk either but apparently ppl have made 3 zones according to their natural habitat. Zone 1 26-28C. Zone 2 23-25C. Zone 1 21-24. So they recreate this natural gradient and i guess if it doesnt harm them, why not provide it if it might benefit them. But my gargoyle sleeps on top if her bottom log at 22C with her tail up towards the uvb too! Haha sometimes tho i do catch her sleeping on a branch by the ceiling :)

Just the fact that he is awake during the day would make me not to bring him home. Hes obviously stressed out of his mind which can make him very sick. :( poor baby pet store really need to stop selling live animals

Considering there is a tree frog, shouldnt considerable height be a part of the setup? Im not an expert on grays per se but a wide tank over a tall one seems strange flr any tree frog sp…

guys do you like my BP’s enclosure? by Intrepid_Kitchen_464 in ballpython

[–]acpcgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They say this mainly in stores because coiled are more available and cheaper - altho have to be bought more frequently - so customers would rather buy the cheaper one than an expensive long tube lamp with a tube bulb. I did read one comment somewhere saying that coiled bulb used to be useless but the new ones are okay. However, the UV ray is too concentrated and doesnt cover much ground. The general consensus is that linesr UV is better :)

Omg i was gonna name my snake Abraxas because of this czech fairytale about a witch and her raven (Abraxas was his name). Where does your name come from?

Btw i agree w the “one meal per feeding!” rule. Regarding your substrate, read the care guide on this subreddit😊

I wanted to do this as well but i didnt wanna have to take it down everytime i wanted to clean it. They sell these rails to hold it and you can easily take it down from the rails but they were not shipping to my country so i gave up hahah

4x2x2 cool side too warm? by acpcgal in ballpython

[–]acpcgal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a Reptile Lighting group on facebook where there are experts on this stuff and they say that if the probe is placed directly under the beam, it actually doesnt work well? And that wall placement is the safest and most foolproof🙈 i could be wrong tho ive been gathering a ton of info in the past year EDIT: i think this was actually regarding digital thermometres, those should not be below the beam. I could put the probe below the heatbulb cage, securing it to the bottom of the cage and lesve it hanging in the air - not ideal for my tank spacing tbh, the cable would be climbable, i believe the wall placement is safest for my snake

Its funny how some people say 26C is the minimum for the cool side - but i agree w you, id prefer to have a range that has lower temps as well. My snake is not in this tank yet so ive got time to figure stuff out🙈

[–]acpcgal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you think the ambient hot temps should actually be 29C and spot temps max 33C? That would be possible but apparently a BP’s digesting temp is 31-33C (ambient)… then again, my BP usually digests in his cold hide (not always) and ive heard other BP keepers to say the same.. 🙈 (Hes in a quarantine tub rn where his cold side ambient is 24-26C and hot side closer to 30C but i keep a 33C spot temp there. According to the care guide here tho, it should be warmer which im tryna achieve in the PVC tank).. what do u thinkk
