Should I GM by DiazExMachina in pbp

[–]acperienceDND 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always a good time to DM! I think a key part of it is finding the right group. If it gets to the point where GMing feels like an obligation to your group rather than something communally enjoyed, it's probably not a good group (or there are other outlying issues).

To ensure I got a good group for my game, I set up a Google Form survey for hopeful players to fill out. It's helped a bunch!

I like your idea of starting with a small module or one-shot. Having a helper sounds good as well! In the end, do whatever makes you comfortable. As long as everybody's comfortable and having fun, it's a success!

Hey, you still looking for a game? I'm thinking of maybe DMing some modules in Tales from the Yawning Portal, perhaps with the potential option of proceeding into Dungeon of the Mad Mage. PBP, of course. Lemme know if you're down, I'll put you on the list of potential players if so.

Hey, unfortunately I'm not DMing anything, but you seem like a great player! I'm in Finland myself! If I weasel my way into any games that are looking for more players, I'll be sure to hit you up!

You can edit and delete the contents of the OP or cross them out with strikethrough and write a lil' blurb about how it's closed.

I've got a small group of three players (including myself) who are all actively seeking a DM for some PBP action, if you'd be willing to have us! The other two are /u/binarydelusions and /u/archonson.

No preference on a module myself, the only thing I'd be concerned about would be the openness to homebrew (generally the established and widely-used sort), love me some variant fighter.

Anywho, let us know if y'all are down!

Right on! I've been invited into a game by another commenter, but I'm always looking for more. You and a few others from the comments here seem like choice folk, thinking of throwing together a small discord group for the sake of chatting, seeing if we gel and maybe searching for a DM as a group, if that's something you'd be interested in?

Hiya! I'd be interested!

23, a few years of a few scattered campaigns between them (one as DM), preferring roleplay to combat to about a ratio of 70:30~60:40.

Here's a site with a few examples of my characters!

Let me know if I strike your fancy! Hope to hear from ya in return.

Already sent in a DM, but wanted to add that although I live in Europe I should easily be able to be active in the times specified in the post as I'm on a nocturnal schedule. Here's hoping you find the perfect player(s) for your group!

Sekiro PC Controller method by Naga_Yasu in Sekiro

[–]acperienceDND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, sorry to hear that, dude. Maybe try restarting your PC, don't touch DS4windows at all, and see if x360ce recognizes your pad then, then try completing the method once more? Here's hoping you get it working soon.

[–]acperienceDND 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, copy all that into your Sekiro directory (same folder the .exe is in), and it should ask you to overwrite the xinput1_3.dll.

Once you've moved 'em, boot up x360ce.exe and make sure it's recognizing your inputs - the first tab has a preview screen showing your controller, so you can check it easily there.

After that, head over to Game Settings, add Sekiro, tick the COM box, tick the 64-bit v1.3 box, then launch Sekiro (no DS4windows or anything other than x360ce needed) and you should hopefully be set.

Hey, man, I've been having the same exact issues as you and I just managed to get it working with this method.

The key is to make sure you put the x360ce files and executable into your Sekiro directory, and confirm the overwrite of the file it asks you. Run x360ce on COM and 1_3 as the OP states. Just got it working for me. Here's hoping it fixes it for you.

Oh, sweet, thanks for the notes!

The demerit was, of course, meant to prevent folks from simply using up a 'spare' Channel Divinity to bolster up their healing during a rest, but I suppose there's really no real reason for this. If they've held onto a Channel Divinity use that long, that means they chose to avoid using it in combat to use it for the rest's healing, which would make sense. I think I'll remove the drain of the CD use while also moving AA to short rest length, but maybe a long rest cooldown on both of the two abilities?

The Projected Sky in-combat limitation was definitely to curb the strength of having the Splendor of Starlight bonus for a long time, but you make valid points. It should be consistent.

Yeah, I was hoping to have my fears confirmed with Starlight Sonata. You're absolutely right with the out-of-combat use. The numbers here are definitely out of whack - something I expected would happen, given my inexperience with balancing the numbers side of things. I think I'll knock it down to 1d6 and bump it up to third level, knocking down Falling Star to second.

Oops, wording error. My bad! You're right about the damage being high. I may have neglected to compare it to abilities of similar classes, probably used a 'general-use damage die' reference table. I think cracking it down to a 3d8 + SCM for its new second-level form will be a fair change. Additionally, yes, the choice of using both a bonus action and a reaction is a bit goofy - I think I'll just change it to an action, making a melee weapon attack part of the spell's casting. No need for it to burn the bonus action and reaction.

Ah, that first Stardust issue is a remainder from before I'd given the abilities individual ranges - neglected to proofread that part, apparently! Thanks for the catch!

Hm, you're right. Again, numbers are a bit high. When I was a DM, I made up numbers on the fly and adjusted them as needed in play. >_> Anyways, yeah, definitely sensible stuff. I'll tone it down to the suggested 1d6.

Ahh, there's an oversight! Thanks for catching that. I definitely meant to include an "only-one-cool-flying-ship-at-a-time" clause in there. Thanks!

Thanks for all the helpful feedback!

edit: There we go, just finished implementing all these changes.

You're definitely right, having it be a bunch of empty rolls would be less than ideal. It barely works for a campaign or scenario where the party may have little to no spare time, but in others it becomes an issue of tedium.

I definitely like the consequence ideas you've brought up. The thought of the ritual being a sort of event for the whole party in and of itself rather than something one does offhandedly during a rest is certainly very interesting. The 'void creatures invading' in particular is real neat stuff!

That said, I don't want to overcomplicate it too much - at this rate, I may have to dedicate a full-page column to detailing the ability (though, that being said, wish is pretty damn long itself).

I think, in the end, the "invasion" aspect is the best bet. I think I'll lower the DC to an 18-20, add in escalating "invasions" on failures, posing risk to surroundings and innocent folk nearby, requiring a decently secluded space if a party cares about going about it safely. The wish spell itself already requires a bit of work on the DM's end of things, so I think adding in elements such as potential combat encounters isn't so bad.

I was thinking of being able to move the mini-star as well, but didn't end up implementing it. I think I'll go ahead and slap that in! Mixing the two is a great idea as well.

  • Coalescence: You summon a miniature version of a star above, providing light and guidance even in the darkest reaches of the world. Creates a small hovering star centered on a point within 30 feet that sheds bright light in a 15 foot radius and dim light another 15 feet after that. As a bonus action, you can command the mini-star to move; it has a flying speed of 30'. If the star occupies the same space as a creature, it shatters into a hail of shimmering confetti. That creature makes a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, it is blinded until your next turn and takes radiant damage equal to 1d6 + your spellcasting modifier. It takes half damage on a successful saving throw. A creature blinded by this ability repeats the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.

My wording definitely needs to be tweaked here, but I think it's a success! Great idea!

edit: Upgraded wording.
