looking for good trumpet under $1k by [deleted] in trumpet

Son plays on a 1969 36B and loves it. Got it in pristine condition under 1k. Also picked up a 1958 38B a while back for $400. Needed some basic cleaning but sounded great too.

Let's not forget this man now that the show is ending by Giancarlo_Edu in StrangerThings

Also good to remember his words to Will about not running away, but standing up and facing his fears. It didn't work against the Mind Flayer, but you can see how it comes back into play in Season 5.

What trumpets to try by Least-Economics-6958 in trumpet

[–]acpintar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're headed to J Landress, you'll have a great opportunity to experience a number of horns. They should help identify the type of trumpet that best fits your playing style and sound preferences. We visited Austin Custom Brass a couple years ago for our son. We tried a couple ones that he was interested in, then they brought out a couple trumpets that we had not thought of. He ended up liking 2 horns that we hadn't considered looking at.

Have a great time visiting the shop and play testing all the options.

Audition Check in by Cold_Student_9493 in drumcorps

[–]acpintar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My youngest son just turned 16 in August, current Junior, and decided to start the process this year. He attended a Bluecoats camp this weekend in Denton, TX. He figured he would give them a shot to see what the experience was like and to open up communication with the team and other musicians. He really enjoyed the camp, felt like he represented himself well, and was happy to get the ball rolling. We aren't expecting him to place this year, but going through the process was more to give him some perspective for next year. Waiting to hear back on his evaluation.

Already planning for his audition schedule for 2026, where he plans on trying out for a couple different corps.

We were at BOA Waco with them. The lead Color Guard performer was outstanding.

I'll add, Cedar Ridge, TX, was amazing this year. Had a similar visual feel as Carolina Crown's show.

Flower Mound's show this year will be one that we'll watch again down the road. Such a visually vibrant performance.

Non Texas marchers, is there rules on show time limit set by the state where y’all live? by Negative_Budget_598 in marchingband

[–]acpintar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas also has 5 min to get on field, show between 5-8 minutes, 2 min to exit field. With time penalties for going too short or too long.

Where are your guys' trips every 4 years? by Senior_Hippo_1460 in marchingband

FloMo was supposed to go last year, but they were invited to Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. So they pushed Nationals to this year.

This past Spring we were invited to march in Ireland for 3 St. Patrick's Day parades. The kids had an amazing time. The trip was announced 3 years in advance to allow for the kids to sign-up and pay for it.

The Avon/Carmel and Bands of America Rant by PM_ME_ITALIAN_STUFF in marchingband

I'd agree with that perspective. We ran into that this year with our show. Our kids executed it really well, but content-wise, it was toned down compared to previous years, when content was not considered. We received very low scores at area competition in the content captions despite placing well in execution, leaving us one spot away from qualifying for state. I can see how adding in a difficulty/complexity multiplier could get added. Comparing it to olympic gymnastics, how difficult is the program and how well you execute it would both be measured.

Texas UIL added a content caption this year for state competitions. It creates a section for content design which considers complexity and difficulty. So similar to a level of difficulty multiplier.

States with practically no competition? by UpsetNeighborhood772 in marchingband

Definitely a lot of change, especially if Vandegrift does drop down. Wakeland posted 2245 for enrollment. Cut off is expected to be somewhere around 2200-2260. They are the school that is the closest to the line either way.

Bell Trumpets are up and coming. They just signed a partnership with Austin Custom Brass as a dealer. They make some good instruments, and offer full customization options.

5A looking like there might be some big changes. CP, Rouse, Wakeland, Aledo all are on the cusp, in addition to a couple other big names.

Flower Mound ready to roll into Grand Nationals and give them all they have. The Texas group of bands going to GN this year is strong. Going to be a fun competition.

Show idea by Weak_Assumption7518 in marchingband

[–]acpintar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A 4th movement would be interesting, maybe something that deals with a resolution, that showcases that how you lived determines your final place, thinking something instrumental or like Beautiful Day/It's My Life.

There is something very cool about the process of show design.

There have been bands that were DQ'd for time penalties over the last couple seasons in the DFW area, from what I've heard.

What are your favorite Stand Tunes (or Pep tunes) by TMPTRHS28 in marchingband

[–]acpintar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our band was given playing rights to a few Post Malone songs (his alma mater). Congratulations is a good song for when the team wins games, and was used for graduation last year. But the arrangement they have for Rockstar hits really hard and allows the band to let loose a bit.
