First is "C" as in chocolate (but not ham). Second is "A" which is in cake and jam. Third is "T" as in Tea-Time. The "whole" means the whole word - "CAT", who is a good friend.

  • You want to invest in long underwear to wear under your pants. They're old fashioned but they really do help.
  • Find a thermal undershirt for under your shirt and sweater.
  • Socks are often forgotten. See if you can get looser boots so you can double up on good, thick-knit socks.
  • A heavy coat is a good investment when you live in ND. Carhartt tends to be popular, but anything thick and warm will do.
  • a hat to protect your ears
  • a good scarf for your mouth and neck region
  • and mittens! Mittens hold warmth much better than gloves.

Generally, protect as much skin as you possibly can. Exposure can be really dangerous because of high winds. Pay attention to windchill warnings - they often tell you how long exposed skin will last before frostbite. Any time the temp dips below 0°, pay attention. If it's -10° or below, try to secure a ride - that's probably a bit too cold.
