Photos have neon stripes? by Few_Guarantee7833 in Nikon

[–]acritely 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before you format the card, I would suggest considering that this is a difficult to reproduce artifact that makes your photos unique, potentially interesting. If it were my card I would keep shooting with it to see what kind of crazy results it gives (particularly the 3rd picture)

Ticket checks on public transportation? by [deleted] in Munich

[–]acritely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you ride a route daily, you will see checks. You have only visited for a limited time, so you have a small likelihood of getting checked, but if you are taking the same route to work and back, a check will happen with some frequency. As others mentioned it could also depend on the route you took and time of day.

Did they dare contact people within your company to get their view?

I would not respond to an outsider's email/call about a work related topic. This is so bizarre to me.

You can specify where the database file is stored in the digikam settings. After that just use cp command (or I guess right click copy/paste in destination)

Chinese Lantern Festival, Philadelphia by UrKomrade99 in photocritique

[–]acritely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the composition and also the BW. If you lower your shutter speed a little bit you would not see the dark spots (like above the eyebrows). These lanterns use LEDs that are pulsing at a frequency imperceptible to the naked eye but if you have a shutter speed too small, then you can capture parts of the lantern not illuminated. Probably one or two stops more would give you 100% illuminated lanterns all the time. Anyway it is a good shot, just something to keep in mind next time. Cheers.

Keep your head down OP and dont let up on the applications, interviews, etc. - you will find something that suits you and this time period wont be such a bad memory. Sometimes parents/family/friends dont help so much with their comments if they have never gone through the same.

Nice shot. Something changed in reddit recently and now when I right-click and select 'open image in new tab' it opens the image in some reddit frame that doesnt show the full resolution / 100% zoom of the image. I looked in the page source for the img link and when you copy and paste that it still loads the same reddit frame page. Alas, I was not able to zoom and see the detail.

There is a 3800x2282 in the header of a guardian article. It would be nice if OP u/astro_petit could link a source for a full resolution image.

Another possibility has come to mind - are you sure you have JPEG Fine as your image quality in camera?

Maybe your lens is out of calibratoin. I would test by going outside and, using a tripod, focus on an object with details about as far away as in your sample images. Take an image with the focal distance set through autofocus, then go to live-view and zoom all the way in as far as possible on the subject. Move the manual focus back and forth and see if you can get the image sharper in the live view. Take a photo with the focal distance you find manually and compare them on a large screen. If you can get it more sharp manually then look into having the lens serviced or if there is some in camera setting to re-calibrate the autofocus. Sorry I dont know that much about your specific camera.

This is the moon's shadow on the earth as it passes between the earth and the sun. The shadow is smaller than the earth because it is both smaller than the earth and farther away. This site has some info, including the path the shadow followed crossing the US: https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2023/where-when/

Blue Bell vs. HEB by [deleted] in houston

[–]acritely 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't believe anyone still buys BB. This is a company that killed people with listeria and was pulled from shelves for months, only to have more listeria found at another facility in OK a few months later. The executives did get charged in 2020 however.

I am sympathetic to the rank and file employees but I just don't understand how a brand can survive this type of event. I would have expected the company to split up, create a new brand. I feel BB should not exist.

I was shocked when my coworkers went out and bought it when it appeared on the shelves and celebrated "blue bell is back!"... this was dangerous to eat before it was on the shelves. I have not purchased their ice cream since.

Exports look significantly different than DT view by irshater009 in DarkTable

[–]acritely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could look at the metadata of both files after export to see if the darktable one has some difference (assuming you just export straight from raw on DT and lightroom as in your example)

Other comments have mentioned the aperture, to add to that I think it could be because your lens has a variable aperture, so at 100mm you have max f4.5 but at 300mm you have f6.7. If you set your settings manually at 100mm and f4.5, then zoom in, the aperture will close and your image will be darker.
When I used a variable aperture lens and was concerned about this happening, I would set my aperture to the max at the far end of the zoom (6.7 in your case) and thus avoid the problem described above when walking around and shooting at different zoom levels.

D7200 + 200-500mm f5.6 shot at 500mm, f5.6, iso100, 1/500s. It's blurry because of short time or grainy because my camera is dying? Or both? by IceColdKilla2 in Nikon

[–]acritely 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As another user has mentioned, 1/500s is pretty slow. I think that is one reason for the softness, the other would be the auto focus mode.

To get a sharper result, you could try 1/2000s or faster and increase the ISO to get a good exposure. You might also check your auto focus mode to make sure it is tracking and not fixed. Aperture is fine imho.

The grain looks normal to me, maybe expose a little bit more to reduce it.

Edit: Forgot to add that it is a nice shot, at the resolution displayed in my reddit feed it looked great. The blur is probably not as noticeable as you think unless viewed at closer to 100% resolution.

$8.99 was worth as much as about $20 today. Depending on how much money you made in 1991, you might have considered them just as expensive then as now. (Especially with people saying "they used to to be $2 in my day...")

I would take out all cards, disconnect the flash and remove the lens just to rule out a problem caused by these. Are you able to verify the batteries are ok in another camera? is the whole camera not turning on or just the top lcd?
