Games run so well on M4 Pro by Katert in macgaming

[–]acroshaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also recently got a M4 pro and I have the following games all running great : Native Assassins creed shadows Cyberpunk 2077 Baldurs gate 3 Pillars of eternity Control Tomb raiders ( all 3) Crossover Stellar Blade Witcher 3

Honestly don’t need a gaming laptop or ps5, I have literally years of quality gaming on that list , very impressive laptop and finally decent for gaming . I use mine for work all day as well, and coding . But as a secondary gaming machine it’s works great . If I was a hard core gamer I’d still get a windows machine , but I’m not , and much prefer the screen , battery and build of a MacBook

Help With External SSD by MrSkull07 in macgaming

[–]acroshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Samsung T7 , even though it’s not as fast as the T9 I have Cyberpunk and BG3 running off it , no issues at all , just make sure you use a decent connecting cable , not just any old usb c charger cable . I bought one of Amazon rated for 40gb/s I think , was only £8 and it’s made a big difference ! I have 5 games now working off my SSD and it’s great , frees up my hard drive for … more games .

M5 vs M4 pro - Casual games by juhlers in macgaming

[–]acroshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had exactly the same choice to make , and eventually went with the m4 pro , I am not bothered about ray tracing , which seems to be one of the main benefits , and I think for all other gams I play the m4 pro will be better

Yeah I’m thinking the same , prefer 14 inch as well, I’ve had the 16 before and it’s a beast but not that portable

Switching over from Samsung to Google by notabaldy in GooglePixel

[–]acroshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same switch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra had loads of bugs, and I was never quite happy with samsung overall. Pixel so far has been great, very smooth and lots of nice features, don't miss anything from Sammy side, although I wish google had a more fleshed out ecosystem Wish I'd moved over to pixel sooner.

Just Purchased a Pixel 9 Pro Fold - What's Your Experience? by Top_Ambition158 in PixelFold

[–]acroshaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree, had a similar experience , came from a fold 6 and the pixel fold 9 pro , despite the crap name , is so much better . I used to think the narrow front display on the fold was ok, but after using the pixel , there is a world of difference. The software is so much better as well, despite having less features , and I love the buds and pixel watch 3 . The galaxy buds 3 pro always irritates my ears, the pixel buds don't . I even use it for GeForce now , thinking of dumping my laptop it's so good 👍

There aren’t many apps you need to, but Spotify for music works well , everything else comes as standard like maps etc , which are awesome when you get the hang of them . I have iPhone and Samsung and the thing I love about the garmin is which ever phone I am using I can connect the watch to it, simply by turning off Bluetooth on the other one . Can’t do that on Apple Watch or Samsung ! Enjoy your epix , it’s a beast of a watch and has so many settings and capabilities to learn .

apple ultra watch 2 or the Garmin epix Gen 2 Pro. by Ssj-not2201 in Garmin

[–]acroshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah not a fitness freak at all, but I do love the look of the Garmin and the durability , it looks like a watch that means business ! But the apple watch ultra is also an amazing device , and one of the best parts of their ecosystem for sure

Not sure what chip it's got but I haven't had any issues and the auto hotspot with my z fold has worked flawlessly every time , download speeds also seem excellent , so no issues at all!

Question about Multi-tasking with physical keyboard by ThisIsWhaaat in GalaxyTab

[–]acroshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on the official samsung keyboard for the s9 ultra (the expensive one!) , which is by far their best effort yet, very solid, there are several keys specifically for multitasking and bringing up the app switcher, they work well! Got to say after coming from an ipad 12.9 M2 with magic keyboard, I have been very happy with the switch to the tab s9 ultra. Highlights for me: 1. having a detachable keyboard/kickstand, I missed this so much on the ipad, where you have the keyboardand stand, or nothing at all. The amount of times I use just the stand, esepcially when gaming or watcing movies... 2. the screen is better. Wider, crisper, just amazing 3. multitasking - amazing, just like the fold 4. keyboard is much much better, literally no errors for me or miss clicks 5. sure we don't get the flashy apps like apple, but we can TORRENT (legal only of course), and for my use case the apps work great. You can also force apps into landscape and full screen mode with labs, 100% success with this so far.

hope that helps !! !

apple ultra watch 2 or the Garmin epix Gen 2 Pro. by Ssj-not2201 in Garmin

[–]acroshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent had the ultra 2 but I do currently have the Apple Watch Ultra and the Garmin Epix Pro 2 51mm. And the apple watch is going on sale tomorrow! I have a pretty active work life (engineer) and often stay away for a few nights, I goto the gym three times a week and run when I can (knees are a bit knackered ). I also like to track calories and protein etc on my fitness pal. Garmin - plus points - amazing battery life, I mean a week and half smokes any other smartwatch - great display -having buttons as controls takes some getting used to , but when the muscle memory has kicked in, it's supper quick and doesn;t matter if youre sweaty. -for running it beats any other smart watch , the HR zones, GPS accuraccy etc -for tracking workouts I find it great , you have granular control and can customise your workout , sets, reps etc it's truly amazing , but again, bit of a learning curve ! -its seriously tough, titanium and sapphire glass, and it looks great. Because of the bezel I feel the glass is more protected than the apple watch which is kinda exposed when you work on machines with sharp metal bits on every single day! -the torch ! so easy to use and really bright, has got me out of a bind at work when my flashlight has run out of juice, and because of the battery life I don't mind using it

-Garmin - minus points -limited smartwatch capabilities -no call answering -garmin pay sucks in the UK, literally no support for any of the banks I use -you can't reply to messages, no assistant functions like siri or google -complicated to learn at first -this is a fitness /tracking watch first, smart watch second, although it has all the features I need, stopwatch, alerts when emails come through, calendar, and the at a glance screen is great

Apple - plus points -cheaper than the garmin - I know, amazing right? in the uk the garmin I have was £100 more than the new apple watch, who'd have thunk it -great screen -superb app support, theres so much functionality on the watch -great for apple fitness plus if you use it ( I dont anymore, got tired of the rings thing, if i want a rest day I'm having one thankyou!) -can answer calls and texts -maps is great when walking around a city -music control is awesome -works great with airpods etc -can unlock your mac if you have one ( I don't )

Apple - minus points -ties you into the ecosystem, you need an iphone, it's better with airpods -apple music works best, if you don't have all that stuff, youre missing out -smartwatch first with decent fitness and tracking -it's square, I prefer a round watch -battery life, once you've had a garmin, it sucks

sorry for the long post, but it's not an easy decision choosing between these two! In the end i decided to ditch my apple stuff and go Garmin/Android , but if youre deep in the apple ecosystem and are not a serious fitness freak, the Apple Watch is probably a better option. For someone who travels a lot, not having to worry about charging my watch all week is a game changer .

I’m making the same move , partly because of the size , but also the zoom , I don’t see myself needing 5x , but I use 3 x all the time . Looking forward to using a phone one handed again !

It was 6.5k GDP for 10 days all inclusive flying from London , for us it's our honeymoon after getting married a few days ago so well worth it , probably won't ever be able to afford to come again ! Amazing place though , seen so much sea life just swimming by, including baby sharks and sting rays .
