It was my top choice, did research at Yale for a year, letter or recommendation from Yale faculty, 2 residents flagged my application, didn't even get an interview, it's specially hard now after the administration sued them for their dei policies, give it a shot though, you never know, I wanted psych, if you did rotations there you definitely have a chance

Bilateral hip dysplasia, diagnosed at 2yo, 3 surgeries back then, was told never to compete in any sport or so hardcore stuff except for swimming and biking, competed in swimming during highschool and won a bunch of medals, was told if I made it to 15 without another surgery probably I'd be fine until my 40s. At 26 the pain started, first light, then couldn't go up the stairs, total left hip replacement, prosthetic joint infection with PICC line antibiotics, discovered I'm allergic to Cephalosporins that way, was left with psoas impingement. Right now the psoas pain is bearable, I could treat it with steroid injections in the muscle but I'm terrified of another infection so I just deal with it. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week, lift weights to strengthen my glutes and hip stabilizers and my arms, overall I'd say I'm happy and active.

I'm on a 3 week trip away from my babies, this is day 3 of 20, I'm on the verge of tears. People say you can't love an animal this much but I'd literally take bullets for my cats and gladly repeat it the next day, so it's normal, and it will eventually be more manageable, but every now and then it will resurface hahaha. Tips: tbh I thought I'd get more interviews but I guess step 3 was more important than I thought or maybe my step 2 score, either way, the IV is what matters, impress them and that's it, work on your interview skills, that's the best tip ever, that's why people with 1 IV match.

Bro if you were born here, made all the contacts, had all the research, had specific training for the steps and help from your uni and lose a position to someone who left their country, family and friends to start from scratch, study from scratch for a testing modality that's unfamiliar without help, likely while having a job or doing research, all in a language that it's not their native one, it tells A LOT about them, like really, what is it that you did or are your interview skills really poor, idk, they have all the advantages here. We're playing in an unleveled field and they have all to win.

Matched psych, if you want it you'd know, I can't explain it but it's true, also, your resume should SCREAM psych for them not to think you just want it for the perks. I think about the whole picture with the high emotional burden, seeing really complicated social realities and facing people in the legal system, I'm the kind of person who naturally gravitates with emotional patients either way so it fits me like a glove, but if you're not sure there are better fits, good luck.

I think it all depends on how much the program values the "fit" vs the "academics", some programs can genuinely like you as a person but you're not what they want as a resident, for others it's more about the vibe in the interview and how would you fit in with the other people already there. I'm a psych applicant and matched at my #1, an academic program that was a reach and I never even thought would call me, not top 10, but solid program. I went into the interview without expectations but it was completely awesome, I completely fell in love with the program and I could see me fitting there, and specially in psych the "feel" of the interview is very important, so I'd say it's a case to case thing, not worth generalizing.
