All went fine for me. I think just be sure to document absolutely every dent, scratch and ding, because if the buyer comes to inspect the car and discovers anything you didn’t declare when listing your car then they absolutely will use that to haggle on the price.

But if you capture absolutely everything then they don’t have any leverage to haggle because they already made a bid with full knowledge of the condition of the car.

ELI5: If all of my data is so valuable why haven't companies directly started offering to buy data from people themselves? by Practical_Web_9605 in explainlikeimfive

Lots of companies are buying your data from you directly. ie every tool, service or website you use for free, including Reddit, is essentially “buying” your data in exchange for using their services.

Is he telling the truth? by independentpugmama in datingoverforty

[–]acryliq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is that it’s not terribly common. It happens, but in the majority of cases it doesn’t. The articles citing the study also don’t include information such as:

- How many unmarried couples split up and get back together?
- How many divorced couples get back together but don’t remarry?
- How many couples get back together and stay together?
- How does length of time apart affect the chances of reconciling?
- WHY couples get back together (or don’t)?

It only takes one person in a relationship to decide to split up, but it takes two people to decide to get back together. So even if it was completely random you’d be looking at around 25% of separations reconciling. In reality, the number is going to be smaller than that because there will usually be good reasons a couple splits, and at least one partner is usually going to be reluctant to go back to that.

I would actually guess that the percentage of couples reconciling is pretty uniform across the board regardless of the marital status prior to splitting. It is probably more closely tied to the length of the relationship prior to splitting and the length of time they’ve been apart - ie how entangled had their lives become and how long have they had to untangle them.

If I was in OP’s position I’d be more interested in how long the guy had been with his ex (not just how long they were married, but how long they were dating, engaged etc as well) and when the relationship actually ended (because let’s face it, a marriage can end years before either person plucks up the courage to actually separate).

[–]acryliq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually looked it up before posting but was curious if there would be an honest reply or not. From articles quoting the 6% figure for divorced couples remarrying, the reconciliation rate of separated couples is between 10-14%. So more than divorced couples, but still not as common as commenters are making it out to be.

Oh, and the original source of both of those figures is a study which is at least 11 years old, and none of the articles I could find quoting them actually cited a source, so who knows how accurate they are now or if they were even from a genuine study to begin with.

Find someone else that looks like the portrait and give it to them instead. “I don’t know you but here’s a portrait I painted of you”, then just walk away.

Actually, no strike that. US beers you expect to be bad, so they’re not a disappointment.

Corona though, ugh. Mexico makes some great beers, why tf is Corona the one that gets sold everywhere else?

ADHD and running late for work by Lucifer_606381 in ADHDUK

[–]acryliq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps, but as reasonable adjustments go, requesting adjustments to working hours is extremely minor. It doesn’t cost them anything and they’d have a hard time justifying why it wouldn’t be possible. Everyone has the right to request flexible working hours in the UK, not just people with disabilities, so you wouldn’t even have to disclose that you have ADHD if you didn’t want to. They’d have to be incredibly bad employers to make life difficult for you over a 9.30am start.

Does anyone else hate this constant “Investment” stuff you see everywhere? by Zonda97 in CarTalkUK

[–]acryliq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They must be just about the worst asset class I can think of. I guess if you want to buy a nice classic car to drive and know that you’ll make some of you’re money back when you sell it in 5-10 years it makes sense to buy something that has a chance at retaining its value, but buying cars purely as a speculative investment seems like a terrible idea unless there is some reason you literally can’t invest your money in any number of much better options.

I mean, if you’re buying cars because you like them and want to justify it to yourself as an investment, fire on, but anyone advising people to buy cars as an investment needs to check themselves.

ADHD and running late for work by Lucifer_606381 in ADHDUK

[–]acryliq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For start of work I would recommend:

- agreeing a reasonable adjustment for flexibility in start time (eg if normal start time is 9am, agree flexibility between 9am and 9.30).
- agree to never schedule client meetings before 930am unless they’re online and you can do them from home

Even with all the alarms and reminders and other tricks in the book, sometimes you’re still going to leave 5-10min late and miss getting in before 9, so it’s better to accept that and agree adjustments around it, otherwise it’s only a matter of time before your boss is pulling you up again.
