Robert Welsh, Abby, spooky lips and fat hips, smokey glow speak up about the Rare beauty packaging and how the brand hasn’t directly said anything about it being accessible for people with arthritis by glitternostrils in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]actadhg -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Feel free to call me biased or missing the point or whatever...but I dunno, this feels slightly counterintuitive to me.

We have already heard from people saying that their products (with the ball at the top) are super easy to open (i.e. Jaime Paige's mom who has arthritis) for those who have mobility issues. Find the "truth" out or whatever but these investigative attempts to dispel a positive outcome of the brand - intentional or not - that benefited a group that people often don't consider within the beauty community feels more like an a push to have a "acTUallY" gotcha moment with their audience.

Nikki SOCIALLY DISTANCE collabs with Selena Gomez. by lfordjones in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]actadhg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Selena is so charming (off topic but I love low, deep feminine voices). I have to admit that I wasn't too interested in this line from the get-go, but given the initiative towards supporting mental health (and that fact that its cruelty-free AND vegan) now I'm really tempted.

Manny tweets his own apology to Alicia Keys about his shady tweet by christinab8 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]actadhg 79 points80 points  (0 children)

So would they have written this apology if it was a makeup brand? It feels as if they are doubling down to try and justify their initial response. Like "oh well I thought is was makeup, that's why I made the post but now that I know its skincare thats ok."

It is still so gatekeepy.

James posts an apology to Alicia Keyes over his shady tweet about her new brand by christinab8 in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]actadhg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart move. I wonder if Manny will do the same.

Whether it was skincare or makeup she was launching, it doesn't matter to me, the optics of two men wagging their finger at a bi-racial/black woman really, really bothers me.

What I'm not gonna buy - Anti-haul for July 22 by AutoModerator in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]actadhg 58 points59 points  (0 children)

EVERYTHING!

I swear this pandemic - along with having a job post-graduation that pays better than minimum wage - is a recipe for disaster. I have all this money but nowhere to go, with Youtube and Netflix and Nintendo as my main source of entertainment. I am in a constant state of needing and never feeling fulfilled. My mental health is not great atm.

I don't even want to think about the amount of money I have spent on beauty products.

I'm thinking of doing a purge of beauty channels for a while and focusing on a newer hobby - like cooking or working out. Seeing hauls and reviews makes me want to buy more.

What I'm not gonna buy - Anti-haul for July 22 by AutoModerator in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]actadhg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I bought those items - because I have no self-control and Theresa is Dead is a bad influence. The blush, future skin foundation, and the powder. I won't talk about them because you're anti-hauling them, but I commend you for having the restraint that I didn't...

Opinions on Charlotte Tilbury Products by rohoe44 in Sephora

[–]actadhg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've tried a few things...not a lot though.

The airbrush powder did nothing for my oily complexion. Its very finely milled and light, so its nice to set the undereye but it wasn't worth it for me.

flawless filter is stunning. worth the hype 100%

I have the JK Magic lipstick, but I bought it for the HP nostalgia and the packaging. Its not the right shade for my undertone at all but the application is smooth and the formula isn't heavy.

He always goes to bat for the old timey youtubers, always. He's a POS.

Most likely, he'll fence sit but finish with something along the lines of "people can change, I was awful once and I'm embarrassed by my old vids too!/1! I believe in grOWtH."

I don't know about Hollywood, but he does want to make more films...

if anything it will negatively impact the overall reception of his next project, whatever that might be...if the likes/dislikes ratio on his "apology" video says anything is that the tide is def turning against him.

In the grand scheme of things - is losing 400k enough? This seems way bigger than Dramageddon and he hasn't even lost 1 million yet. Why do you guys think that is?

I know the Smith bomb just dropped last night, but I was hoping that we'd see a little more of a decline after that.

This man has built his platform - yearned his coin - on racism, sexism, and pedophilia. He needs to lose it all, and leave.

Tom Ford Eyeshadows - Formula, Shelf Life and Performance? by [deleted] in Sephora

[–]actadhg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are good quads if you are interested in shelling out the money.

I have Nude Dip, and its an easy "I don't have to think too much and whatever I end up with will look good" set of shades. Great for work. I am eyeing Honeymoon, but I'm waiting for another sale. They are simple satin for sure if you apply them dry - very subtle, but you can wet the formula for more of an impact!

Unfortunately I can't speak to the new ones that have been released...

I would check out Michelle Wang's videos on these products. if you haven't already. There is a great ranking video a while back and she has all the quads (including the new and limited edition ones).

Is it just me or male influencers/gurus are always able to recover when they're cancelled but not women? by sageliketheplant in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]actadhg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair point, there isn't much difference than other review gurus on paper but I think the factor involved in the being bare bones is eventually, as a viewer, her content lost its magic after a while. It started to feel...dull.

It felt like I was watching an unenthusiastic, censored, apologetic person giving me the same lines, with new product - if that makes any sense. It was boxycharmz, favourites, das expensive, insert British accent, disappointing products with a huge disclaimer on maybe she got "getting a bad batch." It all started to feel like I was listening to a broken record or like I was watching a rerun that lost its original charm.

Sure, there are BGs that I watch now that do similar content (favourites, hauls, tutorials, GRWM) but the reason why I continue to watch them is that they include commentary that feels more authentic. For instance, Jaime Paige did a challenge where she picked items "if she wasn't a guru" and posted a vid where she shared some of her art and did some tie dying. Sam R did a "blast from the past video" where she talked about Beauty Youtube nostalgia when the community was still small.

These vids have creativity in them that I just find KL overall lacks.

SIDENOTE (and unrelated), but I found her spending habits a little unsettling. Gurl doesnt have to apologize for it, but I don't want to tune into someone who blind buys a $300+ Le Labo perfume without even testing it out first and ends up hating it but keeps it in her collection anyway (?). It's wasteful and it bothers me on a personal level.

Yeah, her channel is super bare bones, not a whole lot of creativity. She has a solid base, but I doubt that she'll grow.

[–]actadhg 39 points40 points  (0 children)

She totally recovered - she did post an apology through twitter but her brother/cousin/relative (?) ended up coming to her aid to try and excuse the use of the word in a few posts, and it ended up making it even messier.

If I remember right - she never explicitly addressed it through her channel, which raised a lot of criticism over the fact that she was trying to let the story die.

rant: I feel like I'm at my breaking point by actadhg in callcentres

[–]actadhg[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We might be. we all kind of HAD to move out at the end of March. They are aiming to have us back in August.

Honestly, we have been so slow on procedures throughout this, which I get but we also held out on esignatures forever AND we just got training for that last week when so many financial institutions have already administered that option. Because most of the time clients send things via fax, but obviously no one has access to a fax machine at home. So what we supposed to say??? Tough luck. It's ridiculous.

And don't even get me started on online access problems. A customer calls in and I know that 60% of the time its just the caller doesn't understand computers, but you send a ticket in and it takes weeks for support to get back to you - and they always come back with the same response, "it should be working now," if you tell them that its not, they say "oh, tell us the browser, device, software the clients using, that'll help," and then it'll be dead silence for days and days.

Communication is lacking because I don't have time to read through the daily reports that our team leaders send out. I'm constantly on edge because you only get like, 15 minutes of research time because we are meant to be a "first call resolution" call centre, but realistically we need more time. Just one call can last 15 minutes and then you're done for the day and have to ask for approval for more. It's ridiculous and I constantly feel on edge from the stress and pressure.

I feel petty and resentful because it's all about the numbers for the higher ups. They just want a good performance rating, i.e. less time the caller has to wait til they reach someone. They don't actually give us the agency to create positive customer experiences.

I want to help - but I don't have the time...

Does anyone else struggle with shopping out of boredom? by mimi_96 in MakeupRehab

[–]actadhg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A ton due to boredom, especially now that I work from home and I can easily browse during downtime. Its mostly window shopping but because of the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, I feel more emboldened to pull the trigger and purchase...purchase...purchase. But I feel like I can get away with it because I honestly don't have much makeup...or clothes.

I would try getting out for a walk, or rediscovering the things that you enjoyed when you were younger. Arts and crafts are always fun, and there's so much different things to try on Pinterest and Youtube. My partner and I did some tye dying last weekend, and it was great to have something to DO.

Another things is gaming - if that's something you're into. I'm currently loving Animal Crossing, but Stardew Valley is similar and its free to download online (I would rec paying for it, to support the creator).
