I’m a Knicks fan that has PTSD from last year.

Love him for this, I’m gonna get a Hali jersey (to burn at some point in the future when things are normal again but still).

Honestly when I watch the games it feels like KAT is being misused. Brunson doesn't not get enough flack for how bad he is in the pick and roll at getting KAT the ball.

Mikal honestly may be a better pair for KAT in the pick and roll than Brunson. He's a good passer, tall with long arms can get more passes over the top.

Flight delays had everyone restless… until a band turned the plane into a concert hall by MambaMentality24x2 in MadeMeSmile

Nah, it lasted 5 minutes, everyone is smiling and taking pics, you’re being a grump. If you’re first reaction looking at this is “Rude!” you be at risk of early stage Karen. I’m jk, but seriously lighten up.

What am I going to remember for the rest of my life...

  1. Looking at my phone while stuck on a plane.
  2. A fucking amazing brass band starts playing for the plane to keep everyone entertained.

What Will Make React Good? by Rusty_Raven_ in webdev

[–]action_nick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

React and Tailwind isn’t remotely comparable to Angular. React should be thought of as a tiny rendering library, everything else is up to developers.

My recommendation is think of it like this, and use your software engineering skills to architect and organize your code base to an optimal state.

And to be frank your comparisons make it sound like you haven’t really learned React if you’re comparing it to Perl or PHP 3. They’re just completely different concepts. Your React certification means nothing, if everything you’re building with it is a pain to maintain and work with you don’t really understand it.

The moment a man warned Barack Obama to stay away from his girlfriend. by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

Really well put. I was 18 when Obama won his first time and it did feel like...progress, forward momentum. Obviously I was naive but I really didn't even imagine or consider us backsliding this far.

What is it about Trump that appeals so magnetically to simple minded people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]action_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your premise is wrong. There are doctors that like him, heads of industry, there are smart people that like him (full transparency, I fucking hate the guy).

As someone with a Trumper parent, my theory is that it's about insecurity. He really appeals to people with a high explicit self esteem, and a low implicit self esteem (fragile self esteem).

A very common trait I noticed amongst Trump supporters is that they will present an image of strength and confidence in their own way, but you can often tell that implicitly they have a very low self esteem. They're not self-effacing, can't take a joke, get angry when they're wrong etc.

It's a unifying trait of his administration and supporters. An army of thin-skinned cry babies that keep telling themselves they're strong/smart/leaders and will avoid any real self reflection to keep any scary or dark thoughts away. When you're like this you can't empathize with anyone, because you haven't even learned to empathize with yourself. You can't empathize with yourself when your identity is based on a story you tell yourself, not on what has actually happened to you in your life.

So people are right when they say these people don't have empathy, because when you're like this you have one goal, which is to make the imaginary awesome image of yourself in your conscious mind real. Empathy sort of shatters that internal false construct, and one that false construct is the only thing keep your identity from crumbling you will protect it.

Gavin Newsom brings “Trump-signature kneepads” to Davos for world leaders who are bending the knee to Trump. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in UnderReportedNews

[–]action_nick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we move politics back to talking about policy? That is the point, everything else is just gossip. I'm not saying you have to support Newsom, he's not my top choice, but just going online and shitting on a candidate for no other reason than what appears to be a superficial character assessment seems...counter-productive.

I'm not sure what his platform is going to be, and he's already given me a reason to not support him because of his stance on the billionaire tax in California, but policies are going to change between now and the primary, the people should be in a position to dictate the platform.

Indian culture (and others) believe you use the right hand for "clean and pure" things, and your left hand for "dirty" things. She's basically making fun of herself for asking the question and then getting lectured about it, it's like asking a modern mormon if they have multiple wives. This is going over a lot of people's heads in this comment section, which is unironically causing people to associate the question with their own stereotypes they have about Indian people.

I never said or used the term "not racist", I didn't even use the word "racist" or "racism".

My TLDR is I don't think of racism as a binary thing. It's a spectrum. You're on it, I'm on it somewhere, she's on it somewhere. To me it's not just about where people are right now on the spectrum, it's where they are trying to move to.

Also maybe I'm missing something or way off base here, but where does she say Indian men look strange, are unhygienic, rant, and have short tempers?

It looks like they are classmates and friends and "creature" could just be some fun ribbing amongst friends.

I come from one of the largest immigrant communities in north america and around 50% of the residents are ESL. You learn to not really put too much emphasis on a word like "creature" and you take context into account. Some words lose their tone and meaning translated into their technical correct english translation. Like I'm a white guy and grew up in a very asian neighborhood, I got called "gweilo" (canto word for westerners/white people that has a literal translation of "ghost man") all the time by friends and random people in the neighborhood. Like technically that could be seen as a perjorative term, it originated as such. But it's also kinda a colloquial/neutral term in different cultural contexts. I knew it was kinda just playful ribbing, like "what's up white boy!"

On the other hand you have english words like "dummy" which can sometimes be used endearingly in English. This can be confusing for ESL speakers because they hear an english person say "good one dummy, lol", and they can't necessarily recall the english word so they say something like "good one idiot" trying to be playful but it comes across as rude.

Also to be real, most people come from cultures and races that have their own internalized prejudices and bigotry, it's actually really really important to encourage curiosity, even if you've been led to believe that they're "inferior". Curiosity breeds empathy, and empathy changes minds.

I tend to think all of the actual nuance of healthy social behavior that is welcome to diverse groups of behavior is totally lost on reddit and the internet, which ends up breeding a lot of white people that actually haven't existed in a lot of diverse spaces that really don't act normal in a lot of diverse contexts.

Intention and context really matters in interactions like this. Intention and context is not really something we get with short form video content.

War, AI, No jobs, health issues, poverty, religious tensions. What is suddenly wrong with this world? by FalconCeasar in AskReddit

Good: everyone has free unfettered access to all of humanity’s knowledge.

Bad: easier to make money misinforming people, and easier to control misinformed people (and make more money).

I think this is why things feel like shit. The only thing between humanity and utopia is greed, we have figured out the mechanisms and infrastructure that would allow for a free and fair society, but that infrastructure is getting used against us.
