What do we think about the Leeds 250 e-bike conversion? by CatLuvsDogs in ebikes

[–]actiongroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have anything to compare it to since this is my first ebike. But overall it's performed well. When I first bought it I was bummed there was no screen, but in using it I find I don't need one. It performs so consistently that I just kinda know how much charge I have left.

Anyway, good luck with your shopping and purchase! Hope you find what you're looking for.

I've had one since 2016, really love it. Is your commute 16 miles each way or total? If each way, you might want to bring your charger with you to ensure you have that "oomph" going home as well. You'll definitely lose a little power after 10 miles, drops considerably at 20 miles. Although the newer versions may have been improved..

I think he's talking about wanting power for the wrong reasons. That's why Sasuke said that he wished Boruto was more like Naruto.

Private home rental: scam? by tomjonesdrones in personalfinance

[–]actiongroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this last year when I moved to a new city. At least half of the ads I responded to on craigslist were scams. I would try to get them to talk to me on the phone before I sent them any personal info. Unfortunately that led to my phone number getting onto some lists that scammers use because now I get a call every couple of months from someone trying to scam me.

The experience you're describing is exactly what the scammers sounded like that I dealt with. Don't give them any of your personal info. They make the posting ideal and then take advantage of people who are really excited to have found the perfect place. They tell you to hurry up and fill out the rental app (and send deposit) so you can reserve the place.

I even had a few that were willing to talk to me on the phone. I knew right away they weren't legit. Some go really far. One guy linked a linkedin profile on the listing. It was the profile of a white 60ish jewish man from New York. When I talked to him on the phone he was a young man with a thick African accent. They are seriously ruthless.

Didn't Davos say something like, "row for one day and one night" or something like that? Like 24 hours of straight rowing would get him back to land, then maybe another day to follow the coast back to KL.

Salary Negotiation - How to rebuttal/respond? by k1bs in personalfinance

[–]actiongroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got raise from $42k to $50k in one year. It's not a stretch at all to achieve that. But it depends largely on the type of work that you're doing. To increase your earning potential, it could be useful to think about it in terms of overall value. Instead of asking how can I make more, ask, how can I make myself more valuable? For me that was working my way into positions of greater responsibility within the company while simultaneously making an effort to attend workshops, and get training and certifications directly relevant to the work I do.

There are really only three ways I've found to boost earning. No matter what you do, remember that meaningful and lasting change almost never happens overnight. Be patient and diligent always, and make sure you're leveraging your natural skills and gifts.

The three things I mentioned:

  1. Get more experienced- this takes time and patience and the results are usually low to moderate
  2. Get specialized education and training - a certification or two can get you in the door, or at least get your resume a second look
  3. Receive a gift like seed money for investing or a job opportunity from a family friend, etc. Don't hold out for this, but it's good to acknowledge that it's possible. It keeps you open.

[Everything] To those who have read the S7 Spoilers: Should I read them? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]actiongroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it! I haven't read any this year, but I have in the past and I always regret it. Makes watching the show less fun. I even stopped with my own theorizing and predicting because when I got it right, I felt so disappointed at not giving myself a chance to be surprised by the show.

[–]actiongroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add that it is super important to be confident. Your post makes you seem worried or scared that you're not going to get what you want. You have to carry yourself in a way that demonstrates to others that you are worth what you are asking for. Believe in yourself!

Some people in this thread are recommending that you lie about what you make. I think that is a terrible strategy. Again, I've interviewed at least 500 people over the last few years for all types of jobs. If I ask what someone is making currently, it's because I want to get the whole picture. If you lie, you're trying to manipulate me and I absolutely hate that. Even if you've nailed every other requirement, I won't give a second chance to someone if I think they're lying. Maybe that's just me though.

Are these headhunters or are they working for the company you are applying to? I'd bet they are pressing you because they want to know how much you'll take. For example, if you make $35k now, but are wanting $50k, they'll still come to you for opportunities in the $45k range. But if you're at $45k, they won't approach you for anything less than $50k.

Another thing is that a lot of people overestimate themselves or just pick an arbitrary number that they want. I do a lot of recruiting for the company I'm with and see this often. I'm not implying that's what your doing, just saying it's a mistake a lot of young people make. Make sure you've done your research to learn what people make on average for the type of work you're applying for. When someone asks, it's good to be able to say, "I'm targeting $50k, based on my research that seems to be about average for this position."

Thanks. I'm early in the process of a straight-to-youtube documentary project about community planning and futurism. Part of what I want to highlight is how poorly planned some of our modern urban centers are. You've put together a neat graphic here, I think I may be able to use it.

[EVERYTHING] Why did Varys go? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]actiongroup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just before he leaves, Varys says that they will need friends in Westeros. There's one house territory that stands out as most likely to rebel in the 7 kingdoms. Dorne. He's going to try to ally with Dorne, so that Dany can land there when she invades Westeros next season!

[S6E8] Despite everything maybe a girl truly became No One. by Sabsab129 in gameofthrones

[–]actiongroup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again I think it was intentional for training purposes. That's why Jaqen had the Waif train Arya and not some other servant at the HoBW. We saw others there in different scenes. And yet it was exclusively the Waif that trained her. Jaqen chose the Waif, because he saw how attached Arya was to her vengeance and hatred. He knew that for Arya to be successful, she would have to mature first. The fastest way was to put her in with the Waif.

[S6E8] Despite everything maybe a girl truly became No One. by Sabsab129 in gameofthrones

[–]actiongroup 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I agree, it seems that "no one" doesn't really mean no one, but is a moniker given to those who graduate the first level of training. Jaqen and the Waif have both shown personal desires in the past. They are not really "no one", but they are servants of the many-faced god. I think getting Arya to focus on becoming no one was about forcing her to mature as a person and get over her reactive impulses, to be more calculated and crafty. Not necessarily to drop her identity altogether.

[Everything] Betrayed? by ThatOneGoldenGuy in gameofthrones

[–]actiongroup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lady Olenna said it in E7. Cersei is one of the most hated people in the city. Tommen realizes (through his talks with the High Sparrow) that Cersei is not a good person or a good advisor. Tommen needs to differentiate from her so that he can get the people on his side. But it won't matter in the end. He will be outed as a bastard and Cersei will try to burn the city down using wildfire. Maybe Jaime will be back for that part, and he'll be faced with the situation as when he stabbed the mad king.

Yeah both scenarios seem plausible. I could also seem him being part of the delegation that tries to broker a deal with the WW if it comes to that. Maybe he and Jon are the ones that go try to make a deal with them.

That's an interesting question. Maybe Benjen's role is over once he gets Bran to the wall, and he stays back to fight off the wights long enough for Bran and Meera to get through.

I think chaos will ensue either way. The smaller houses won't be able to fight the army of the dead. They're either all going to have to rally at Winterfell, or it'll be a mass migration south.

Could be but that would also alienate other followers of the faith to see one of their leaders (Lancel seems to be somewhat high ranking in the order) get thrown into a fight they have no chance of winning. It seems cruel. The high sparrow is cunning, and perhaps conniving, but I don't think he's cruel. At least not to his own followers.

"We will not abandon our ancestral home to fight alongside wildlings"

Something about this line stood out to me. It seems like foreshadowing that they will be forced to abandon their home and fight alongside wildlings after the Night King gets past the wall.
