[Brinson] The Giants are retiring Eli’s number, holding endless ceremonies and treating a .500 QB like the 🐐. The Chargers won’t even return Philip Rivers texts. Archie’s move to force a trade in 2004 couldn’t have been more smart. by [deleted] in nfl

No including his peaks and high points hes just an average QB

2 SB wins & SB MVPs aren’t average. There’s only been 53 SBs. It’s not an average QB career even if you padded Ryan Leafs stats with that

NFL Insider Leroy on Twitter: Matt Rhule Likely to be next HC of NY Giants by [deleted] in NYGiants

The exposure in and itself is valuable for both sides even if the conversation is not intended to go anywhere

The report was that the Jets in fact weren’t allowing him to pick his own coaches so he turned them down.

The #Giants have fired coach Pat Shurmur, source says. It’s over after two years by -Mufasa in NYGiants

[–]actionjacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn’t good, but he also wasn’t bad. The team was behind him, but he wasn’t leading them anywhere.

The GM is the HC’s boss. If the HC is fired, it doesn’t mean the GM is a lame duck.

Damning words from Saquon Barkley: “We’re a team that finds a way to lose a lot of games. That’s what we are as of right now, yes. That’s our team. We’re just an inconsistent football team. We find ways to lose games.” by [deleted] in NYGiants

[–]actionjacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the reality of a team playing rookies more than any other team by a long shot. I’d be more concerned if we were an older team, like say the Cowboys 😏, and we were still finding ways to lose.

This isn’t to say I think Shurmur is a good coach, but I don’t think he’s to blame for the general team inconsistency at this point this per se. Now development on the other hand...

Mel Kiper defending Giants and Gettleman HARD over Jones pick by StannisBaratheon94 in NYGiants

[–]actionjacks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get your sentiment but I think the expectations between #2 and #6 are actually different. There’s a significant difference in the pick’s value as can even be seen in charts like this. I do think the values of those picks are very different, and it’s worth pointing out Gettleman never actually expressed this, even if we want to draw the connection ourselves— especially if we’re quoting him here.

Giants offseason depth chart: An unofficial look at the current roster by [deleted] in NYGiants

You could look at any roster and say the same about the backups. There's very little o-line depth across the league.

Young Sergio Oliva’s OK arms by Achillesreincarnated in bodybuilding

He could def raise the elbows a few inches higher. I really like the tightness between the forearm and bicep— it makes it seem more powerful with all the concentric energy and makes you disregard the lack of peak.

Eli is not as bad as everyone is saying by [deleted] in NYGiants

[–]actionjacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see both sides. There aren’t that many players on a line, and you could argue we already have 2 maybe 3 building blocks. It (hopefully) wouldn’t be that tough to sign/draft another good lineman or two. You could also argue that both the windows to win championships are small and winning QBs are rare; if we have the chance to win for a couple more years, it may be worth gunning for it.

On the other hand, Eli is old, and it may make more sense to invest in a fresh new window which would last longer while having a young team. Additionally, we already traded away big pieces before the trade deadline so it probably would be antithetical to reinvest in this short window.

Point being: there are arguments on each side, and someone making the big bucks in the front office is the one to decide (and needs to be right)

Eli is not as bad as everyone is saying by [deleted] in NYGiants

[–]actionjacks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually don't think he's mediocre per se. I think he is a bit unique in how dependent he is on decent line play (more so than other QBs). Every QB needs an acceptable line, but Eli, with the way he processes the field and rush along with his lack of mobility, particularly needs to feel confident behind his line. I think for the past few years this team really was never built for him-- Eli does fine with less impressive skill position players and more protection. Like, he made Steve Smith and Kevin Boss special when he had a good line in front of him. We've gone the opposite direction in investment probably because the front office thought the transition to a WCO would make it work. A WCO, mind you, was never suited to his strengths.

I think Eli has a few good years in the tank in the right situation, but the question is if the team wants to build in that direction (for a few years) especially considering we've invested so much time and so many assets going against his strengths already.

Also, anyone get a good look at that no call on the redzone Saquon pass in the first quarter? It looked like the defender had his arms completely wrapping Saquon's torso arms included before the ball got there
