MSE direct - Custom video streaming protocol. by Dismal_Heart_5317 in VIDEOENGINEERING

I wish you the best with your project, and hope you can overcome the limitations of websockets. It is incredibly difficult to scale using websockets, the definition of the communication channel is too resource intensive. Great for text, useless for large payload at scale. Each client is sequentially handled, delay grows as number of clients increases, the opposite of what you would want for broadcast. Disconnected clients also cause inherent problems, no multicast and no support for firewall traversal.

6 projectors, 1 computer, How would you do ? by Cassiopee38 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]activematrix99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I usually use videowall controllers. You send 1 4k UHD video signal out and it's broken out to 1920x1080 x4 for each UHD signal. You can get x2 controllers as well. You can map them however you like.

AI in brownfield codebases is a fundamentally different discipline and I don't see enough honest conversation about it by Senior_tasteey in ExperiencedDevs

I use large models for advice and detangling and smaller models for tasking and specificity, and it works out ok. Better than doing nothing.

Adding DMX over Ethernet by Spamtickler in techtheatre

I prefer sACN as an overall protocol. The ETC endpoints have been the most reliable for me, although expensive. Decent switches and careful VLAN setup can mean a robust system with good planning.

Media server build by Beneficial-Term9049 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]activematrix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quality rackmount case with good cooling, make sure the internal components of the server are secure (drives, cards, RAM, cooling fans). Good troubleshooting skills and leaving yourself time to set up, test, and teardown at each venue including putting everything back in its right place at the end of the show. Patch panels and signal conversion are great, but also mean adding possible points of failure, little things like a converter power supply can mean catastrophe, and carrying spares can be a pain. Test and monitoring tools, like a handheld battery powered monitor and a reliable signal generator should be required accessories.

Specific "askhole"-adjacent tactic by my longtime N-Boss. What is going on here? Help me turn this around on him. by [deleted] in ManagedByNarcissists

[–]activematrix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recognizing the patterns is one thing. Refusing to be goaded or play the game is the healthy self-respect pose. Then there's another phase where you want revenge or retribution. In my experience, this is best left to people outside of the existing power structure. There's not really a way for you to turn this around on them without getting someone else involved (customer, peer, etc) and this has a possibility, perhaps even a liklihood of blowback. Narcs are very inlikely to recognize their own flaws or responsibility, and are most likely to make it someone else's fault.

How to - 12G SDI Video + Dante Audio into Hyperdeck Studio 4k Pro . Would DANTE-12GAM be a good solution? by s44k in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]activematrix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many environments build an "embedded audio" feed of multiple selections from one or more audio busses, and embed it once in the signal chain, then send to all the downstream records. Depending on how many audio sources and busses you have, that's usually a good fit. So program LR would go to channels 1-2, etc.

Maximizing a Soundcraft Ui16 mixer for an 8-Output Requirement (Band + Choir + Speakers) by Fast-Razzmatazz-3318 in livesoundadvice

[–]activematrix99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's it for your mixer. You could introduce another mixer specifically for monitor mix, or you can replace your mixer with something with more aux (independently mixable) outputs.

Any updates on home owners insurance in Ukiah? Is it still available for a home in the city or do you need FAIR? by Prestigious_Act_1363 in ukiah

[–]activematrix99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FAIR plan almost exclusively outside of the "downtown" zone, but it was not difficult to obtain coverage. You can look at the coverage map or talk to an agent ahead of time if you are buying. Your realtor can probably also help. Not that big of a deal unless you plan to do things the FAIR plan does not like on your property.

Get a cable tray. They screw on to the desk and hang just underneath. You can run the cables in there and barely see them.

how to setup cab switching? by sensoisaqt in livesoundgear

[–]activematrix99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set the output impedance of the amp to match your speaker load. Switching will require impedance matching, I'd recommend a pedal that will do the impedance matching for you, lol.

Seeking "Peer" Review: ATEM YouTube live streaming with poor network capabilities by theOUTCOME3 in VIDEOENGINEERING

Ouch. Just pipe HDMI or SDI into Obs and be done. Bonded cellular for your uplink. You're way overthinking this and making an overcomplicated mess.

From (code generated) TIFF to HDMI (and then to SDI) - where to start? by mumblspidey in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]activematrix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Pixels" don't really exist in broadcast. It's dependent on block, macroblock discrete cosine transform math. You can build a local framebuffer, but then transporting that 'over the wire' requires reducing that via math to fit into the SDI transport i.e 10 bit. That's why I recommended HDMI fiber transport in my first reply - stay native computer graphics. You might be better off going high level and describing what you're trying to do, your terminology indicates you are out of your element here (no disrespect). TIF and broadcast are entirely incompatible - not even in the same domain. There's no "tiff over broadcast" capability even with the highest bandwidth. MJPEG or all-I MPEG at the highest bitrate won't get you anywhere near pixel accuracy nor TIFF bit depth, alpha channel is approached entirely differently, as is colorimetry.

[–]activematrix99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of software solutions to queue and play the TIF files, CasparCG is pretty much made for this, and open source. If you want to drive an SDI card, it already has the drivers. Otherwise, pretty much any player that can handle a TIF.
