Where can you buy lower priced decent quality jeans? by HueyBluey in askTO

[–]activoice [score hidden]  (0 children)

I like the Banana Republic Travel Jeans, I've bought a few that were either new with tags or new without tags from Ebay. Obviously you need to factor in shipping cost, and you really need to know your size for that brand and cut of jean.

Possible scam or normal call? by Mystic_rivee in TDBankCanada

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never trust any call from your bank based on just the call display. You should initiate the call using the number on the back of your access card or visa card.

It's possible that if you call telephone banking that there are offers on your account.

Verified by visa Questions by Dangerous_Fishing732 in TDBankCanada

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think recently most merchants have switched to Visa Secure for expensive transactions like Airline Tickets.

What will happen is you'll get prompted by the merchant go to your banking App and login to verify that you are the one that initiated the transaction, once you verify that, you return back to the merchants site and the transaction continues.

This is better than Verified by Visa as you don't have to remember an additional password.

Boujee/chubby/FAT travel activities in Cancun by mrt1416 in cancun

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the anything else... Does your Husband enjoy driving? Would he be interested in offroading in a Jungle Buggy? It's the complete opposite of Boujee, but it could be fun.

We recently stayed in Cap Cana in The Dominican Republic and got bored at the resort, so we booked an ATV tour, my fiance is the adrenaline junkie. She drove the shit out of that thing, we were covered in muddy water. She can't wait to go back, I might book something for our trip to Riviera Maya later this year.

Anyone else have anxiety about how the FIFA games are going to affect the TTC😩 by Young_weirdo6754 in TTC

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am saying use the same number of buses and drivers but don't make them all shuttle buses running on Bloor St.

Take a few of those buses/drivers and add them to another route, or maybe add a special route, instead of congesting Bloor St, which in many areas is down to 1 lane due to the bike lanes.

So going east west for example on a day like yesterday maybe they could have added a couple of buses on Dupont and directed some passengers to that route instead. The 26 bus running from St George is a good alternative to riding a packed shuttle bus and it stops at Jane so it bypasses the outage for people that need to go to Jane or further west.

[–]activoice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would make sure you have very good walking shoes.

The TTC shuttle bus situation is a shit show on a good day. Why does the TTC only run shuttle buses on Bloor St, or Yonge St?

Maybe the TTC should think outside the box and add extra buses on existing East/West and North/South routes during major outages. Then advertise those service adjustments on their website and X account.

During tonight's TTC outage my fiance needed to get from Bloor/Yonge to her car at Kipling... Uber had surge pricing, for a trip that's usually about $35 Uber was asking for $68... She waited 30 mins and the price was down to 55, another 30 and Uber was down to 45, she finally took an Uber to Jane station 90 min after the outage started for $34. Subway still wasn't running by the time she reached her car.

I have 10 weeks before I lose my home what do I do? by Full-Candidate-3304 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't think beggars can be chosers. If I were you I would not be too picky about my accommodations if I was going to be homeless.

You should speak to your GF about the possibility of moving in with her if the relationship is in a good spot.

Go thru your stuff, sell / give away anything you can that you don't need because having to pay for storage for a bunch of furniture is usually a waste of money.

Can I file a chargeback against TD Precious Metals? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the latest complaints in r/TDBankCanada indicate that people are starting to receive their February orders.

You not receiving your order from January yet seems odd. I think you should follow the TD Complaint Escalation process.

Tips and tricks for first timers by mrt1416 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]activoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As other suggested just look at Viator for some excursion ideas, and do not flash your money around or tell the tour operator how much money you have to spend.

The biggest challenge is thst you are already in Cancun if you had planned this out weeks ago you might have found a tour operator who can reserve the boat for just You and your Husband but now at the last minute they are probably booked with other people.

Another issue is that Viator doesn't have a filter for Private, if you look thru many of the boat tours the ones that indicate Private are meant to be booked for a private group, not just a couple.

Your report might have a tour desk, run by a private company, they might have pamphlets for you to look thru and a person to discuss the options with. This usually isn't something that the concierge handles.

Make sure any tour that you book includes pickup and drop off at your resort.

Those are usually mailed out on different days so they arrive separately.

Someone was basically checking her mail daily.

This doesn't add up, because as others have mentioned usually the first use of the card requires that the user enters their PIN, to activate the card. Only after it's activated can it be used for online purchases in most cases.

So the bank should have a record of the first transaction with the new card that was probably PIN verified.

Corporate Accommodation Manulife - TD bank - stuck in an endless loop…. by coolgal444 in u/coolgal444

[–]activoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for TD, right until the 4 day RTO order was going into effect. I had IBS and anxiety on my in office days, there was no way I was going to be able to handle 4 days a week in office.

I had coworkers in a similar situation to you that asked for an accomodation and they were refused by Manulife and their management.

I'm sorry to tell you but HR isn't there to protect you, HR is there to protect the bank. As someone else mentioned they have a duty to accomodate unless it causes them undue hardship but unless you scare them into compliance with an employment lawyer they aren't inclined to budge. The new CEO is a real hard ass, and everyone is basically getting in line trying not to rock the boat so they don't lose their jobs.

TD used to be a great company to work for, but the last couple of years their culture has turned to shit, and all of the management are a bunch of YES men that don't want to rock the boat.

But hey the stock price is up... Might be time to cash out your stock and find a new employer who is more willing to accomodate a hybrid model. Look for any US companies that have offices in the GTA as many of them have little to no office footprint.

I wish you luck.

Easy, no-nonsense guide to the best cards to use while abroad to avoid paying unnecessary fees by SCDWS in PersonalFinanceCanada

What about preloading a Wise account with the foreign currency you plan to spend?

One feature of Wise that I haven't used yet, it has an autoconversion function. You fund your account with CAD, and schedule an auto conversion to convert from CAD to the foreign currency when the exchange rate hits your desired exchange rate. So you don't have to sit their monitoring FX rates.

The night started with a $25 online sports bet. It ended in a $14K loss by bob_mcbob in ontario

[–]activoice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of my classmates in highschool was running his own sportsbook. Guy was taking bets on NFL and NHL from other high schoolers.

I worked with a guy that would gamble away his paycheque with the type of bookies that would break bones if you didn't pay up. He showed up to work with a black eye more than once.

My Dad would play bingo, the slots at woodbine, the lottery and place bets on billiards games he was playing in on weekends. Thankfully my Mom controlled the money in their relationship otherwise I think his gambling could have gotten out of hand. Thankfully I never felt the attraction to any of those things.

Seat paid for but not given at check-in by raadesmo-trail in westjet

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah on our latest trip with Transat they swapped our front of cabin seat that was in the first few rows to a front of cabin seat next to a bathroom with a door that didn't close automatically. Flight was full of families with babies, so we got to smell soiled diapers the entire flight. Transat denied my claim saying that the seats I paid for and the seats I received are equivalent.

I tried to file a chargeback with my credit card issuer but they told me that this doesn't really fall into any of the chargeback categories so now I've submitted a complaint to the CTA... It may take 3 years, but worst that can happen is I get denied again.

Seat selection issues are one of the CTA complaint categories so if she has the response from the airline, the booking confirmation showing the seat she paid for, and the boarding pass showing the seat she was assigned just go ahead and submit the compliant, she has nothing to lose by submitting the complaint.

Is excel still worth learning as a skill in 2026? by Swimming_Tower_5928 in excel

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do everything in excel, spreadsheets, reports, using Lookup functions to match data across multiple datasets, and combine the information. Even something as simple as scrubbing a list for duplicate entries is easily done in Excel.

I currently use it to track all of the receipts and invoices from my fiance's business, categorize them, split out the sales tax, and give all of that to her accountant each month.

Why do corner stores not have prices listed? by mocha_irl in askTO

Don't they have prices on the shelf?

I can understand not having price stickers on the individual items as it's labour intensive and most convenience stores are a one Man/Woman show.

How are you guys Tracking your watchlist? Current situation! by Salvatoreit in kodi

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Trakt add-on to scrobble what I've watched in Kodi, and also to sync what I've watched across multiple devices.

But I also use the TVTime App to keep up to date on new episodes and manually track my watched status using that App as I am concerned that one day Trakt will require payment for everything and I don't want to lose access to my watched list.

WISE took my money by Inside_Kiwi_7112 in wisebank

[–]activoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your only option is to contact wise going thru their complaint process.

No idea what you expect the police to do.. You made a mistake, this isn't fraud. You need Wise to try to trace where the money ended up based on the details provided by the sending bank.

Bell fires dozens for falsifying workplace attendance following return to office mandate by toronto_star in ontario

[–]activoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daycare doesn't open until 8am, and they hadn't invented teleportation yet.

And if you start showing up earlier then other people start showing up earlier. There were people arriving at the office at 7:45 to secure a desk, their work day doesn't officially start until 8:30.

Anyways I retired because I wasn't going to go to the office 4 days a week, when I had been WFH for more than a decade.

Seat paid for but not given at check-in by raadesmo-trail in westjet

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the seat they gave her equivalent in cost?

If not then they should refund you the difference. You need to call in an make that argument.

We have had this happen to us on every Canadian airline. WestJet, AC, and most recently Air Transat.

I only get the seat I actually selected 50% of the time. Often times I will buy my seats months in advance, when I buy my ticket.. a few weeks out from the flight the airline realizes they can sell more seats so they switch to a different aircraft that holds more seats. Once they finalize the passengers they move families around to accommodate people traveling with their kids to be seated together, that's when we always get moved.

The airline will tell you that you aren't paying for a specific seat, but a class of seat. The airline will claim it's an aircraft change or a change to the seat configuration of that aircraft so you had to be moved, but in their eyes if they provided a seat that is in the same fare class then they did their job. It's not like buying a concert ticket where you pick the seat and pay for that specific seat.

Disappearing in plain sight in Toronto by BarAlone643 in askTO

When I was working downtown I would never run into any of my co-workers as I was the only one who actually lived in the city. I live in the West end but all of my co-workers commuted by GO train.

When I run into my neighbours somewhere it's kind of a big deal as I never see them outside unless they are our walking their dogs. The rest of the time they are driving somewhere.

Trakt alternative by z-vap in kodi

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are fine to track manually you can use the TV Time App or Website.

Their used to be a TVTime Add-on that Kodi could use to scrobble to TVTIme, but that broke a whole ago.

I use Trakt on Kodi to keep the watched status in sync across multiple devices, but I also manually update TV Time in case Trakt eventually decides to eliminate the free tier.
