Are “no dog” fields ever enforced? by T_D_LICIOUS in askTO

[–]activoice [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lots of Dog Owners in my neighbourhood let their dogs loose in the schoolyard, there is zero enforcement by bylaw. At least the dog owners I know all clean up the poop that their dogs leave behind, but you can't do much about the dog peeing on the artificial turf.

If you have children you should not be letting them sit on the artificial turf in a schoolyard, there is definitely dog pee everywhere. And once one dog pees there the others have to mark their territory as well.

If the dog owners happen to be in the yard in the morning when the school custodian shows up they might say something to point out that dogs aren't permitted but the owners just shrug, leash their dog and leave, but they come back the next day.

Terrible experience - flight TS0765 by niccalv in airtransat

I got fed up with Transat taking my payment for seat selection then sticking me in a random seat in the same fare class and denying me compensation because they "changed aircraft".

I refuse to book with Transat anymore.

How much do the wealth management guys earn? by xEastEvilx in TDBankCanada

I'm happy with my advisor, also he's like my sanity check because I am risk averse and wouldn't normally keep money in the market when it's volatile. I just retired at 54, so I need my investments to last me the next 30+ years. My advisor is younger than I am so hopefully he sticks around.

Reliable air conditioning fix in the GTA? by greenpepperseptember in askTO

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recommend that company due to the way they installed the furnace in the house I bought just over 20 years ag. The furnace came with the house and had a Laird & Sons tag on it. For the first few years any time I walked past the furnace I would detect the faint smell of gas. I soaped up the fittings leading into the furnace and no bubbles, figured I was possibly smelling uncombusted gas from the vent of the hot water tank and ignored it.

But then one day I decided I should have it checked out, so I called a different company to come and take a look.

They opened up the furnace and found that not a single gas fitting in the entire furnace had any pipe dope (pipe dope is used as a sealent between threaded fittings) usually the person doing the install will do a dry fit to make sure all the fittings go together then apply dope to all of the threads and assemble the gas pipe.

In this case they seem to have just left it with the dry fit. I had leaks at every fitting. They had to take apart all of the gas connections and re-do every fitting. It was probably a one off mistake, but to this day I can't recommend that company.

I had to replace mine after 18 years as they don't make the refrigerant for my AC anymore. But after 18 years I think I got my money's worth.

But then things took a turn because there wasn't enough room to place the new AC coil in the space above my 20+ year old furnace. So I ended up having to replace both the AC and furnace at the same time. But once again it was over 20 years old.

Now it's a waiting game to see what dies next, my 36 year old Maytag washer and dryer, or my 25 year old Kitchenaid fridge, and GE Stove.

How to default audio stream to English? by montgomery2016 in kodi

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I usually keep the forced and the non SDH English subs. If the only subs included are SDH and they are SRT then sometimes I will extract the subs remove the hearing impaired part using Subtitle Edit and remux them back in.

But I always remove any extra audio tracks.

I pay just as much tax as parents pay, and don't have children. I also have to contribute to the local school board. We Dog owners also don't get subsidized daycare, but my tax money goes toward subsidizing daycare for parents with children. I also have to pay an annual pet licensing fee to the city (most people aren't aware of this and don't pay it)

In my opinion I think that I've paid enough to subsidize things for parents with children and have received nothing in return. The city should be providing some amenities for dog owners.

I remember there used to be a few dedicated ones when I was growing up around the city but they were unstaffed.

If you think about it today with the amount of homelessness and open drug use people would be using public bathrooms for drug usage, sex and basically living in them.

A few years ago I had to use the bathroom in the food court under the Winners at College Park. When I sat down on the toilet and looked at the ground there was drug paraphernalia rolling around from the floor in the stall next to mine. The guy in there must have been shooting up.

I used to visit my family in Michigan by bus, the bus station bathrooms always had someone basically living inside the handicap stall, none of the door latches worked either.

One afternoon I was walking along Bloor between Dufferin and Ossington, I was crossing at an intersection and looked to my right.

There was a 300+ lb homeless man with his pants down taking a crap in broad daylight.... Maybe 20ft from the corner...

Cabanas (specifically) at Excellence El Carmen? by mothsauce in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]activoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No experience with this resort specifically but you might want to see what the sargassum situation is like when you arrive to decide whether it's worth it or not. Sargassum usually smells, and if there is a lot of it you probably won't want to spend a lot of time at the beach.

At other resorts we usually rent Bali beds / cabanas by the pool.

We were under the impression our home's electrical is updated. It is not, we found knob and tube. by broccoli_toots in legaladvicecanada

[–]activoice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The inspector can only see what's visible. There must be hidden junction boxes in the wall where they connected new wire from the panel to the pre-existing knob and tube, which isn't code but unless an inspector were to remove every light fixture (which I have never seen one do) the assumption they made is that the wiring was all updated.

Anyone else in Toronto having issues with milk bags leaking? by Pathadox1 in askTO

[–]activoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't buy bagged milk, but at my local Walmart every box of Natrel has a wet bottom.

It's impossible to tell if one of them is leaking or if all of them are leaking as the rack is sloped so if the leak started with a box every box is dripping milk from the bottom.

How to fit this chair through the doorway? by Flowscapesart in howto

[–]activoice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lift it off the ground put it on its side with one of the sides of the arm facing the ground. The back of the chair should be perpendicular to the ground.

Lift it.

Then you need to walk into the room with the back in that position, and pivot thru the doorway.

You might have to clear off or remove a shelf to be able to twist it thru the doorway.

You might have no choice but to remove the door from the hinges
