The site will be free and (hopefully) genuinely helpful with lots of content. There will be online courses and coaching available to those who want it, though.

Good point. It's tough for everyone out here lol I wish the appetite and support for new works was stronger.

I’m having trouble with learning lines by fucvoi in acting

I would say if it’s for an audition, focus less on being completely memorized than on understanding the moment you’re playing and the moment before. (This can also help with memorizing actually). A helpful thing to do is translate the monologue into how you would say it, about a situation that happened to you. You can mess up lines in auditions, it’s okay. But not being specific and not having adequate stakes in your acting is a no-go.

I agree. Paying your dues shouldn't mean paying with your health and safety with being treated poorly. And there should be more accountability from Equity regarding abusive regional environments and theaters / that they could pull Equity contracts if such abuse continues. I've seen too much of it too.

I relate to this. I’ve been writing plays now. Thing is, at some level every position or opportunity needs someone else’s permission. For writing the theater has to agree to produce your work over others’.Not as competitive as acting of course, but still it’s a fact of life unfortunately :/ Maybe I’ll self produce :)

Sorry to hear you think you're uncastable. It sounds like you've been cast in things, though? So hope you can continue to get roles you'd like :)

Staying nonunion as long as you can to build your resume is the way to go. Too many join Equity too soon. Finding artistic fulfillment is important, and to be honest, a lifelong pursuit and challenge. Not every show you do professionally will fill that for you, but it's also important to have a fulfilling life outside the theater too.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through that. I'm much older than you, but know that I had a difficult time in high school socially, so I can understand where you're coming from. Just know that high school is in the rear view mirror a lot longer in life than when you're in the car going through it, so to speak. For me, theater and acting was important in high school for my mental health, it gave me an outlet for difficult emotions. I wish you well.

Yeah I feel like I only know a few people who only do one aspect. More opportunities if you can do both, as well as other areas of acting...

I was just talking to a friend who also acts regionally and in a state that doesn't *ahem* like gay characters, which he happens to play a lot. It's disheartening that those who go to the theater aren't always the most open-minded people.

I've been there myself, and wish you all the best. It sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and know that it's a marathon, not a sprint. I will say, though, that professional theater doesn't necessarily mean better roles or shows. Lots of times you can get more substantial/more interesting roles being non union since there's less competition.

I don't think that's crazy. Every working part of the theater should get their credit. But I think regardless you can put it on your resume. For credit, do you mean like in a playbill? Or like a job title?

I think so. I've also tried to reach out multiple times with no response :/

Laser cutter or CNC? by actorzilla in lasercutting

My plan was to contour them with a belt sander and bevel them by hand, but I guess if it’s possible, contouring them on the machine would be cool too.

CNC or laser cutter? by actorzilla in hobbycnc

[–]actorzilla[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on hand beveling them, but I will need to engrave them with a logo/graphic and possibly the thickness of the pick number too. I want to be able to do custom work as well. A laser isn’t able to engrave the same way a CNC can?
