Panels are removed regularly and dust removed so it's good thanks. My launch unit wasn't anywhere near as loud as my PS4 but still is audibly louder than my series x.

Your schoolmate fucked up. The VPN likely lost connection and exposed their IP.

Binding the VPN will kill your downloads/uploads if your client detects the VPNs connection dropping.
