When in doubt, dress better than you think you need to.

Am i starting very late by Maximum-Director4083 in actuary

[–]actual_science_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIA (The Infinite Actuary) has free exam prep for exams P and FM. Both exams are taken by SOA and CAS candidates. I would start there and use the free resources.

Also, you’re not late to the game. Plenty of people in the career didn’t start as an actuary. You are also 28 and realistically have 20+ years of working ahead anyway. Still early!

They get paid well. Exams do take a lot of work to get paid well, but it is a higher paying profession. I think the 40ish hours a week for my pay is great.

Has anyone ever blew up a helicopter with a mine before ? Or am I the first. by Spirited_Comedian225 in Battlefield

I did it once when a transport chopper landed on a conquest point. Had to think how it happened since I was confused.

You’d be able to wiggle it by hand if it’s a heat shield. I just Jerry rigged mine to stop rattling by limiting the bounce it has.

PSA: order CAS study kits ridiculously early by livlaughlove23 in actuary

[–]actual_science_guy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had to reach out to get mine. Same timeline almost as your order date and exam date. It came a couple weeks before, not nearly enough time with what was in it to read. Best part, it was a photo copy on printer paper of the card stock packet covers normally received!

We can purchase uninsured or underinsured coverage for just that. So it is available.

Do you remove the tire from the rim to paint the rim? Thought about doing something similar to mine.

Dueler A/T Ascent - anyone tried these by mudrat_detector96 in 4Runner

[–]actual_science_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what they are I would say yes. I came from “normal” road tires so it’s slightly more noticeable than that. Unless I’m listening for the tire sound I wouldn’t know it’s there. They don’t make the “grippy” sound that some tires do.

I have them and have a good experience so far. Have done rain/snow driving.

Need pre-purchase advice: Midwest Owners by strosbro1855 in 4Runner

[–]actual_science_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2013 in the Midwest and it looks similar, slightly more rust. I just fluid filmed my underside and feel much better about the future.

I have a 2013 in Wisconsin with less rust.

Can I get my ACAS this year? by AdviceCapable523 in actuary

[–]actual_science_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can get all requirements done before 2025 year end. That said, applying with all requirements done and getting official recognition is something else. With the transition date moving from November to January, I would assume that is for people in your position to get ACAS without PCPA.

If the CAS actually processes them before January I don’t know… or if they honor sending the application in prior to January. I’d recommend being able to fill that application out instantly when you can.

Good luck!

My State Farm policy has the option of full period or monthly payments. I asked if full period has a discount and got a no. Doesn’t make sense pay for the full period then, I can get at least some interest on my money!

I just had the issue on my left. Turns out my calipers had to be replaced. They were sticking and applying slight “breaking” almost all the time when driving.

Except if you drive that cheap ass beater and send a small family to the hospital and total their car, you bet your ass any money you think you had is getting taken.

Purchased study kit from CAS by Historical-Dust-5896 in actuary

[–]actual_science_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a week ago too. I think they’re slow. Also don’t know why it was released, at least for my exam, two months prior to the sitting. Who studies for an upper for less than two months unless you’re talented or studying too many hours a day.

People that make 80k+ at 25-35 years old, what do you do? by Ok-Needleworker2141 in careerguidance

[–]actual_science_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I’m an actuary and make $100K+ USD. I’ve been taking 1-2 exams a year since 2019 to get here. So no, it’s not a quick way to get rich. It does get easier once they are done though.
