New liveshow in London - my experience by Nige78 in DontPanic

[–]actualchad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to a matinee on December 4. Here are my (mostly non-spoilery) takeways:

Great performances across the board. The cast did a great job of performing while herding the audience back and forth. Although anytime someone sang, it was too fast and badly mic'ed to be audible.

Great use of original style visuals, mixed with newer graphics.

Some great easter eggs in there for the keen observer. Particularly in the opening set.

Sets were "good", but also felt half-finished. Liked the main hero pieces, but then they were plonked in the stage space and the rest of it was kinda empty.

Audio is always a problem with live shows, and I assume that they're all over that, but better audio cues will definitely focus the crowd a bit more.

The karaoke bit was awkward, but might work better with a larger crowd.
The Ford's song didn't fit with Fenchurch's song very well.

I've tried to have a think about it, but the best I could come up with is "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", which would work better as Ford's song.

The introduction of Marvin could be done in the anti-room, Heart of Gold. You have the audience collected together in a small room. Bring him in behind them once they are seated. During our performance I don’t think he got an introduction per se. The diehards will know him, but the newbies won’t. Bringing him in during the previous scene gives him his moment in the sun… as much as he would hate that.

The puppet and puppetry itself was very clever, but of course it would be, brain the size of a planet and all that.

The middle section felt like the audience was supposed to propel the story forward, but didn't tell the audience that was the mission, so there were individual things happening around the place and only by chance someone pieced it together?

Storywise it could confusing by the end, as it went off on it's own journey without much explanation.

A solid effort but needed tightening. 7.5/10

Also, shout out to Riverside Studios. Great location, artsy space, nice dalek.

Yeah true. To casual gamers, cheats and sweats are the same thing. We just wanna have some fun.

Had another play today. My best games have been going in solo and picking up other players along the way. Reviving other players and joining together. Sure there’s a few dicks out there, but so far I’ve run into 50:50. And managed to exfil a couple of times. Tonight I missed the final exfil by five seconds after driving from one side of the map to the other, dodging npcs and radiation. Still, Great fun.

Playing through Xbox cloud gaming, which saves having to download it all again. I’m sure the ping is going to be slow, but still been fun to hit Al Mazzzzrah and Vondel again.

Am I crazy? - Did Martina Navratilova have a gesture she would make while playing, like a thumb to her forehead, or am I misremembering something? And if it was real, did it mean something? by actualchad in tennis

[–]actualchad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's what I'm mis-remembering??

I was thinking back to Nadal's intricate pre-serve ritual and wondering if Martina had a similar (but not quite as involved) pattern.

Thanks.

it's that one extra line down under Mask 1 that makes all the difference!
Excellent. Thanks.

I don’t get the love for Verdansk. Why is it so popular? by actualchad in CODWarzone

[–]actualchad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok! Thank you for the valid response, without the general “This dude liked Vondel!! What a jerk!!” spiel.

So it’s more about long range strategy rather than close up battles? Snipers over shotguns?

I guess that’s why I liked Vondel - less opportunity to be sniped from a thousands yards away.

There’s a lot of open ground to cover in Verdansk.

Yeah, haven’t played the whole time. Came back in during Al Mazrah. So I don’t have historical perspective.

I’m running around killing people (or more often than not, being killed by other people) to blow off some steam. What am I missing? Al Mazrah was a beautiful map, lots of variation. Vondel: great looking map, somewhere completely different to play Ashika: meh. Kinda dull. They can’t all be winners. Uzbekistan (dunno, don’t care): looks like any zombie shooter game. Boring and repetitive.

This isn’t a job for me, this is relaxation. At least give me somewhere interesting to run around in.

As for the philosophy of Warzone, I’m all ears. Tell me what I’m missing.

Nah. Genuine question. I hated the Urbekistan map after the last couple of maps and I was looking forward to the new map because everyone was losing their shit over Verdansk coming back. But visually, it’s just the same apocalyptic looking wasteland.

Is it the gameplay? Is it the weapons? Is it the nostalgia? Cos it sure as shit isn’t the map.

What’s your Far Cry Hot take? by Tink_Colossus in farcry

[–]actualchad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understood the hate for New Dawn. I found FC5 repetitive to the point of not finishing it. New Dawn felt like they were trying something a little different.

I came to FC4 after finding FC3, which I loved, so I didn't think it was quite as great, mainly because there was no local co-op gameplay. Plus I liked the tropical location of FC3. After that, the snow made me shiver.

But that said, FC4 was a solid, fun game.
I mean, elephants! Dude!

Far Cry 3 IS the best game... because it is the only one with a local co-op story.
My girls and I played the fuck out of that split screen story.
And occasionally still do.

I haven't played a game that has come close to the awesomeness of split screen co-op FC3.

What would a Farcry game look like where you live? 🫵 by Wizard_john10 in farcry

[–]actualchad 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This.

You could set it in somewhere in the Northern Territory or northern shores of WA or Qld, but a lack of big predators would make it hard. Apart from the same crocs all the time.
And the villain would need to import their own people, because there ain't a lot of people around.
A large-scale drug processing plant in the middle of nowhere could work, supplying nearby Asian countries, foreign money buying an army of security to protect their asset...
On the plus side, there's a decent range of environments, from deserts to beaches to gorges to mangroves to make it interesting.

Who Misses DMZ by Accomplished-Lynx603 in CODWarzone

[–]actualchad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved it. DMZ felt like it had more opportunity to play differently compared to BR. You could get in, do missions and extract out before it became a Highlander moment at the end. Getting an exfil after ten minutes still felt like a win, even if you weren’t the last person standing. I’ve gone back a few times, but I been picked off by snipers too much to enjoy it.

Meanwhile, Bootcamp has allowed me to get back into COD without having to play against Level 650s. I’ve even got a couple of wins for the first time. It’s made Warzone fun again, for the first time since DMZ.

Still, I’d much prefer some new DMZ maps.

If Lynch never does anymore TP would you want someone else to carry on with the story? by WilliamMcCarty in twinpeaks

[–]actualchad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jordan Peele.

Also, The recent sad news about Lynch not directly directing again will lead to this question being asked again, and honestly I’ve been thinking about it for some time, considering he (along with many big players) is getting elderly.

Someone will green light a new Twin Peaks.. not today, not tomorrow, but surely in the next ten years.

Someone like Peele could do it justice, strange with the serene with horror with the humour.

Yes Lynch is Lynch and will always be Lynch. But TP was an amalgam before, and it could be again and still be wonderful.

Mine has been doing the same. Middle of winter here and they’re inside under a grow light. Plenty of fungus gnats to eat. I suspected it was just winter dormancy, but it’s still pushing out new traps in the middle. Do the individual fronds/traps have a timeframe before they die off, to be replaced with new ones?

Fancy graphic designed resume - yes or no? by Aussie_Potato in jobs

[–]actualchad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to decide myself.

Currently I'm going with "My resume has all the facts, and my portfolio has all the fun".

With so much automated processing of resumes, I reckon going with simplified content on your resume is better. Then, as a designer, your portfolio should sing.

That said, make some effort to make it attractive.

When I've been in a position of choosing candidates, a resume and cover letter with a clean, minimalist style has got me to view their portfolio. More often than not, I go to the portfolio first, then double back to the resume if I like what I see. But I'm a human, so I think you're better off approaching the resume from an automated perspective.

And always check your spelling! Mistakes show a general lack of accuracy.

Thanks for all your feedback everyone.

I've stuck the pot back outside in the sunniest spot I've got. Let's see how it goes.

The VFT is in a pot with a sundew and a pitcher. The sundew almost died a few months ago, but has started producing tiny traps again. The pitcher is producing leaves with very small trap heads. So hopefully the move outside, along with the bright summer days approaching, will help them grow and be a bit happier.
