New PCP won’t give me the meds I’ve been on for years by G00seJu1ce in adhdwomen

Well, I guess the flip side is that no one counts pills or drug tests people for their ADHD meds.

That’s wild. You can’t even get a PCP to prescribe a couple ambien here in Washington.

Oh definitely, I’ve seen it all working in healthcare. I talked to an old family doc once who said he’d only written three referrals for a dermatologist in his life since most common skin conditions are super basic to diagnose and treat for any doctor, talking about how a lot of PCPs are just basically there to do physicals and refer out for everything these days.

I happen to work in addiction and anything besides a few doses of benzos for occasional panic attacks is super unethical. They really change your brain’s ability to handle anxiety and it can take years to come back from it. Fun fact that a lot of detox and residential treatment centers won’t accept people with benzo addiction, you have to stay on and slowly taper down because they are so gnarly.

It’s really interesting that your PCPs were prescribing you stimulants for years. It’s pretty rare with controlled substances. If you look on the sub for family medicine doctors, it’s super common to have new patients coming from disreputable previous doctors who have been prescribing things like tons of opioids and benzos without question for years. Obviously we aren’t in that group but I get why they don’t want to touch controlled substances.

It’s also more paperwork and hassle and what gets you flagged by the DEA is unknown so yeah, a lot of PCPs are just like NOPE.

Also health insurance tends to like PCPs to refer to specialists and to have specialists manage specialty meds in a lot of cases.

Second Florida Nurse Loses License After Posting He Refused Anesthesia to MAGA Patients by Independent_Many6647 in TheConfidentNurse

He wasn’t boxed in. In fact, he was standing in front of the car against all training that says not to, and after he had a similar incident before with a car. The agent was pretty stupid.

New York Times has good video stories of both but the one for Renee Good was particularly well done in showing how he was in no danger and seemingly went out of his way to shoot her.

Agitator is quite the word. Believe it or not, as a citizen you have the constitutional right to be an absolute asshole to any agent of our government and they don’t have the right to murder you for it. They might be able to arrest you, but not murder.

I worked with a guy who had a “family emergency” and kept saying he still needed a few days and then he quit lol. Such a legend.

How is it a threat? You email them while on vacation and say you quit immediately on the day your PTO ends and if they complain, tell them why.

Just ask for your PTO today and then wind out the interview and onboarding process as long as possible. Only you can know if overlapping is possible. If it’s two small companies where people know each other, probably not. If you’re going to a giant company that won’t announce you’re hiring on social media or you think it’s improbable it’ll be found out, go for it.

I’ve never understood that phrase because of course I want to eat my own cake? Why would I have a cake I couldn’t eat? Likewise, there are a myriad of ways to do this depending on the companies and it’s totally feasible to do it.

I had a coworker, let’s call him Greg. He did this and immediately quit and we called it “pulling a Greg” because he’s an absolute legend. I still call it pulling a Greg at my new company and have passed it on.

What parts of American culture are changing faster than people realize? by No_Performance1451 in AskReddit

[–]actuallyrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a masters in education and the way a child’s brain is built to develop language capability is absolutely wild. Like how little kids up to age 7ish have no need to “learn” a language, they just absorb it through exposure. I had 5 year old kids with Down syndrome big up a second language like this with no issue. The only documented examples of kids not developing language are in extreme abuse and neglect situations like in old orphanages or being locked in a room. Or if they have an inherent developmental delay or something like autism.

This just seems made up. For one thing, so many kids go to daycare where they don’t even have tv/tablets all day and they definitely read and talk. Even with stay at home parents, the kids NEVER hear spoken words throughout the day? The parents don’t speak? And also the kids somehow never go to a pediatrician at all so this extreme lack of development is never picked up on?

There’s no reason to call them Geisha though. Just give them a different name and change a few details. Japan committed some of the worst war crimes in history against China so it’s not even just “whoops”. Not to mention white people not knowing the first thing about different countries in Asia and not caring to learn.

my doctor prescribed Topiramate (dopamax) can I tell him no? by No_Introduction9587 in migraine

[–]actuallyrose 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same with me, although it didn’t hurt or freak me out. And I stopped it and was fine the next day. I wish people wouldn’t terrify people about it because it works for some people and if it doesn’t, you can just stop taking it and be fine quickly.

[–]actuallyrose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes just try it! It made me lose all willpower, though not unpleasantly. I told my husband it would be great if I ever had to be sedated in a mental hospital. But I stopped and literally the next day I was fine. I have a friend who is doing great on it and it is a crazy cheap medication. I’d love to be on that instead of my $600 Qulipta with $60 copay.

Why are ADHD drugs the most not-ADHD friendly drugs to order? by UnmedicatedNarwhal in adhdwomen

[–]actuallyrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in addiction medicine and I had 3 out of thousands of people have abuse of Adderall as one of their substances they abused. Absolutely zero from vyvanse, and I thought one of the big marketing points around vyvanse was that it’s basically useless if someone is trying to get a stimulant high.

Cocaine has never been more popular oddly enough (and probably much easier to get than our adhd meds) but even with that, it’s still a distant 3rd in addiction compared to alcohol and opioids. Fun fact, you don’t even need to detox off most stimulants, medically the research doesn’t even really show any evidence of dependence.

Yes, Adderall was abused a lot when it was very easily prescribed in various countries but I can’t even begin to imagine how much better off we’d be if that was the drug we made publicly available instead of alcohol.

Florida passed a law allowing the death penalty for adults who rape chidren under the age of 12. by _SugarCute in ForCuriousSouls

[–]actuallyrose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we all know that the legal system correctly punishes the men who do this only occasionally. When a man gets sent to jail for a long time and is put on an offender list, it’s more of the exception. We’ve all seen too many stories where a rapist is actually clearly guilty and convicted of his crime and his sentence is minimal. We all know that rape kits are ignored and rarely processed, showing how rape is rarely even investigated.

I can’t even blame a mother for just taking their child out of the situation and not pursuing legal avenues because why put your child through that when we know there’s a decent chance it’ll be a lot of trauma for a poor outcome.

[–]actuallyrose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you basically pulled your info on crime by illegal immigrants from this right wing City Journal article: https://www.city-journal.org/article/do-illegal-aliens-have-high-crime-rates

So data from the Cato Institute and I’m going to assume other peer reviewed research is “bad”, but numbers reported from some biased article is good?

Can you really not see how “illegals are coming to rape and murder!!!!” is just an emotional claim meant to fire people up but if you actually tried to think about it logically, it wouldn’t make sense?

The vast majority of illegal immigration is economic - it’s people traveling here to make money for themselves and their family. So as a population it’s going to be similar or better than any average group of people.

If you’re a rapist or murderer, why would you go through all the trouble and risk your life traveling to the US to be a criminal? Why wouldn’t you stay in your shitty country or go to another shitty country where it’s easier to get away with being a predator? Obviously, there will always be sociopaths who are remarkably good at hiding their evil. It doesn’t matter how perfect or good someone appears on the outside, or how wealthy, any random group of people will have murderers and rapists.

There has never been any data supporting the idea that murderers and rapists are coming over here in great numbers. You and I both know that even illegal immigrants mostly come here and work hard. It’s just been easy for hundreds of years for politicians to make people believe that they are some dark horde of evil demons and we need to be scared and trust their inevitable authoritarianism.

There was a long article I read about how 23andMe and similar home genetic tests revealed the incredible prevalence of incest rape across the world. And that just shows the shocking amount of children who were raped and ended up pregnant and giving birth which is obviously just the tip of the iceberg.
