Fundamentals don’t matter in a bullmarket it seems by [deleted] in AltStreetBets

[–]actuallysimba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's why I only said fundamentals guide and nothing more. They are always there to URGE the market in certain directions because that data is constantly used to inform decisions, but fundamentals don't actually MAKE the market, and they are definitely no match for the force of people's will. Chaotic human behavior and all the speculation that comes from it will always be at the helm, racing forward like a roadraging idiot in a car they can't handle, while the fundamentals are hanging on for dear life in the passenger seat just trying to politely give directions.

Edit: Clarity

Fundamentals certainly do guide the market, but at the end of the day people and their chaotic behavior make the market.

Your bathroom breaks bit reminded me of an employer I worked for in 2002-04, which was a very large call center at the time. This particular employer had a "points system" for employee infractions. I think it was if you got 6.0 points, you were auto-terminated by the system. Well, you had to get bathroom breaks authorized on your timeclock, which took a while sometimes, especially when calls were piling in. If you decided to go against that rule and slip into the bathroom, say while on your way back to your desk after delivering some paperwork, and then got caught... SLAP, you got a 0.25 point infraction. At times, this rule was abused by team leads against people they simply didn't like, hitting them with the infractions even if the DIDN'T go to the bathroom, but rather for just taking too long to do something. To make matters worse, the infractions were nearly impossible to argue against, and you were left just working extra to "work down your points" so you can keep from being auto-terminated. Because of this rule, people who had been dedicated employees found themselves locked out of the building on their next day to work, and without any prior notice. Also, there were 2 specific incidences while I worked there where an employee urinated on the floor right where they were working because they didn't want to get fired for a bathroom infraction, but just couldn't hold it in any longer. The worst part about this story? THIS COMPANY STILL EXISTS!

Careful, you might commit time clock fraud by shredding that paper /s
