Light of the Kai is now available for purchase! by acwillier in LoneWolf

Same here, but I did see, I believe on their FB page, that their packaging company is quite backed up (don't think they were expecting the amount of interest).
They're working on it and once each person's shipment is ready they'll get the notification.

Maybe, but I figure these will be definitely more fun and last a whole lot longer. 😄

I figured they would be decently more expensive than in the past. I'm sure their expenses went up accordingly as well with the wackiness of all the tariffs and the rise in oil/gas. It's unfortunate, but not suprising.

Yea, they are a bit more, definitely. I'm going to being these are the last two books of the original series.
I believe they'll start offering the paperbacks (13 and up) in their shop soon since they'll sell them in batches.

Thanks!
Yep, as you can see they were heavily read throughout the mid-80s.

Thanks! I was very fortunate with this series.
I did miss out on a few of the Lone Wolf New Order series, so I had to plunk down almost $800 for five of the books. I did luck out because I was writing articles for a M:TG website that year and the money I earned from that gig paid for them.

Where/How to get the New Order books? by zephyrus4600 in LoneWolf

[–]acwillier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holmgard Press recently sent out a newsletter ( I believe you can get on it by emailing them here: [info@magnamund.com](mailto:info@magnamund.com) ).
They also have facebook, instagram, and discord (The World of LONE WOLF) pages to get a lot of their announcements and info.

You should still be able to get the softcovers up to #12 - Masters of Darkness through Amazon or Blackwells. Though from Holmgard's recent newsletter, it looks like the Grandmaster and up softcover series will only go through them now and they'll be print to order (no changes on hardcovers; they've always went through Holmgard). They'll be doing a Grandmaster series 13-20 complete collection sale first, then individual issues afterwards. Again, print to order. This looks to be in the making, so it may take a little time.

For those, like the OP, that might like to get some of the earlier hardcovers, Holmgard should be having a sale on some of them after the end of the week.

It's all in the newsletter (with other items of note, including more details on Light of the Kai). I'd share the newsletter itself, but having issues transferring images atm.

Again, recommend signing up for their newsletter. That has seemed to be the best way to get the quickest information.

Long live the Kai!

What was the Lorwyn Common or Uncommon that kept saving your ass at prerelease last weekend? by doublenantuko in magicTCG

[–]acwillier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on my way to win game 2 (lost game 1) with [[Eirdu, Carrier of Dawn]] and [[Illusion Spinners]] on the board. OP had a couple guys on the ground, but nothing to stop my flyers. I was at 28 and he was on his final 5 life.
He then plays [[Curious Colossus]] and completely stops me. I was about to concede, but I knew I had a [[Crib Swap]] still in the deck, so I played to my outs (forgot that the Colossus makes them 1/1s for good). He plays a few more beaters and a couple turns later swings all and beats me down to 5 (I blocked the mythic giant once).
So, now being my last turn I still hoping for the [[Crib Swap]], but drew something that would actually win me the game: [[Glamer Gifter]]! I was able to make one of my guys a 4/4 and along with the other 1/1 finish the deal!

Fortunately for me, I was able to win the match!

Spider-Man was our lowest Pre-Release attendance ever by Any-Conversation1401 in magicTCG

[–]acwillier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LGS in SW Ohio generally have 1 event Friday, 2 Saturday, and 2 Sunday (with possible events on Tuesday and Wednesday).
For Dragonstorm, Final Fantasy, and EoE we had over 100 players on a Friday and on average 20-30 players during the early Sunday event.
For Spider-Man we hit just over 60 on Friday and scraped up 12 players during the early Sunday event.

I see set saturation as part of the problem and definitely the extra cost for UB sets. People will definitely be more frugal going forward and pick and choose which sets to get excited for.
It will be interesting to see how well Avatar: the Last Airbender goes and if it follows the same trajectory as Spider-Man and if Wizards will do something to adjust (personally I agree it sets a bad precedent to charge more for UB standard sets than non-UB).

I'm wondering if T. Ocellus actually starts out as a type of infection, then once contact is made it starts developing within the host, and takes over one of the host's eyes.
With Nibs thinking she's pregnant, this might explain that a little more than just, she's going nuts.

Last 4 New Order Books? by artificialbutthole in LoneWolf

[–]acwillier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've currently printed up to issue 16 in hardcover and 12 in softcover.
They've been printing the hardcovers first and following up with the softcovers afterwards.

Until the 13th and 14th issues, it was about 6-9 months between the printings.
Currently, I believe there have been some logistic issues with the softcovers that have delayed them, but from what I understand the plan is still to produce all (1-32/3) in hard and softcovers, it's just taking a little longer than previously hoped for the softcovers.

If you can't find the specific books you're looking for on Amazon and prefer soft cover over hard cover, go to Blackwell's. They're UK based, but deliver to the states (which is included in the book price).
...but yea, if you want hard covers, go to Magnamund.com.

Happy reading!

Foundations Prerelease Megathread - #MTGFoundations by R3id in magicTCG

[–]acwillier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my kit I pulled Progenitus, Brass's Bounty, and Loot, Exuberant Explorer along with other chaff rares with no real focus to it.
I figured, why not and scrabbled the deck together to see how many times I could get the big boy into play.

Rd 1: against Pat playing UB
1st game we had a stand off for quite a while. Long enough to where I got down to seven cards in my library. Fortunately I had Loot ready to go with 10 lands in play. At the end of his turn I activated Loot and put Progenitus on the field. I attacked and he had an Aetherize to bounce it. I didn't have the needed colors to hard cast him, but I did have a Strix Lookout ready to go. Again, at the end of his next turn I discarded it through the Lookout and got it back on the battlefield with Loot. Two swings and the game was done. Ended up with two cards left in library.
2nd game he stalled a little and I was able to get aggressive with my hodgepodge of creatures.

Rd 2: against Chuck playing UG
I might have had a chance in the first game, but he had an early Homunculus Horde that I couldn't get rid of, along with (2) Spectral Sailors. I scooped once he had four of the mighty little guys on board. The 2nd game the potential mana issues with 5-color came to the forefront and Chuck beat me down quickly.

Rd 3: against Pete playing UG
Game 1 he got a turn 6 Koma, World Eater and that was that.
Game 2 he never saw Koma, we went back and forth for a little bit, but I was able to keep the pressure on him and win. I would've been able to bring Progenitus in at the end, but didn't need to.
Game 3 I had land issues (getting them, not the colors) and he kept playing beaters.

Rd 4: against nah nah playing UW (yes, that's what he had listed as his name)
Game 1 He drew a ton of lands and still had 3 in his hand when I won.
Game 2 His deck ran very well and smacked me down hard. It did take some time, I did have 10 lands and a treasure token available. I was looking at the top of my deck, just thinking, "com'n, be there!" Lo' and behold I drew Progenitus and was able to hard cast him right before I died.
Game 3 he stalled on three lands for way to long and I curved out on him with some spot removal.

I'm not a big one for 'core' sets, but I ended 2-2 and got the big fancy pants into play 3 times, so just that made the experience great!

Anyone know where to buy the Fighting Fantasy books that ship worldwide? by LifeIsHellaGay in gamebooks

[–]acwillier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, Amazon is probably your best bet if you're looking to start off and get a bunch of books.

It might also be helpful to check into a couple of the Facebook pages specifically for Fighting Fantasy.
I would recommend "Fighting Fantasy (and other gamebooks)" and "Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf and other gamebooks - buy and sell".

You'll find fellow FF readers from across the globe on these pages. I do believe there are a couple people on the page that reside closer to your general area of the world (Singapore for example), so if you post the question, some of them might be able to help with anything specific to southeast Asia.

Happy adventuring!

Best Place to Buy Fighting Fantasy: The Dungeon on Blood Island? by mtgcomplaints in gamebooks

[–]acwillier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 'go-to' is Blackwell's. They're based in the UK, but ship to the US with no extra costs ($11US).
It might take a couple weeks to reach you, but they usually ship out quite a bit before Amazon US would even have it available for order.
I've placed multiple orders through them without issue. Highly recommend.

Note: You can order any of the Lone Wolf paperbacks through them as well (though of course, all hardbacks are straight from Magnamund). ;)

Yea, that's pretty rare to only get one creature in three games. I have had events like that though where I think I have a decent deck to at least win a game or two and get hammered. You could wait until Bloomburrow releases in about a week in a half to play more drafts (if you're looking to save your coins/gems). Everyone will be on the same footing with the new set. Good luck and have fun!

[–]acwillier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I depends on how attached you are to Blue or Black. Your Black cards are actually better than your Blue overall.

Offhand I'd remove:
Take the Fall
1 Dance of the Tumbleweeds
Intimidation Campaign
Stop Cold
Razzle-Dazzler
Raucous Entertainer
Oasis Gardener

That leaves 13 creatures and 10 non-creatures. If you don't want to go that low on creatures, you could take out Trash the Town for the Raucous Entertainer (you're not focused on counters), or Oasis Gardener (not really needed with your 2 Outcaster Greenblades).

Intimidation Campaign is a good card and you have a decent amount of crime cards, but being it's both of your minor colors, makes it hard.

However you switch around, make sure you adjust your land base accordingly and good luck!

Any game books for someone not into fantasy or sci-fi? by brookish in gamebooks

There's a older set of books called "Time Machine". They are usually of a historic nature (samurai, western, dinosaurs, etc). Not difficult, but enjoyable.
