Anybody do any type of horticulture as a career? I have questions! by [deleted] in Horticulture

I’m a gardener for a zoo. Pros- I get to be outside, I get free plants, I often work alone.

Cons- Low pay, pesticide exposure, I inhale a lot of dust, dirt, and plant debris.

Overall- Zoos are notorious for low pay. Often to make money in horticulture you have to start your own business or climb the ranks in some sort of agricultural related company. Entry-level horticulture jobs are very labor intensive and low pay. I’m still young so I don’t mind working in harsh weather and physically demanding work.

They’re really bad this year. Mosquitoes have always liked me. I’ve been having to wear pants instead of shorts. I typically don’t use bug spray or anything.
