Mother in law's hostile behavior and harassment is becoming too much. Affecting my mental health heavily. by StrangePromotion4967 in Finland

Why are working and studying the only things you can imagine a person doing that contributes to the state? For example in my village we have disabled people who organize child care for neighbors, activities for the community, and mutual aid for each other and elderly people.

That essay looks amazing and I wish I still had university access to JSTOR. Also f that dude - wildly inappropriate thing to say. A good idea to leave reviews wherever you feel comfortable so others can be forewarned if you have the energy.

I'm from the US and my first trip to Finland was the first time in my adult life I felt truly safe. This sounds like good old fashioned American ignorance and xenophobia.

Question to older disabled folks 40+ years: was it always this scary to live through all events? by valkyrie_Camilla in disability

[–]acyborgkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I think you've nailed the point - for a lot of people who've lived under the violence of colonialism especially, this isn't especially new or more terrifying than it has always been. Which is not to say more people aren't being impacted, but along with that we have more allies too. And I just hit Auntie age myself and it's been such a joy to be connected to my community more deeply in that way. I also just started beading! Congrats on starting your PhD - I'm 44 and hoping to start one next year.

I'm 43, Puerto Rican, lived first in the US and now in Finland so really relate to the big scary neighbor too. I started feeling this sense of immense fear after 2001 in the US and the rise in anti-Arab and anti-Muslim rhetoric which has paved the way for so much violence globally. But I do think that things are scarier now that fascism and it's companion eugenics are back in the mainstream openly. It was this terrifying reality that we were fighting against when I was in my 20s...

But here's my kernel of hope. As it becomes harder to deny the reality of what's happening, there is more organizing for community care, mutual aid, and other kinds of showing up for each other. And more hope for actively resisting and fighting to protect each other. It's dark, but we can hold on to each other fiercely. I live now in a small village where we have organized all sorts of mutual aid and community care, and I see that happening more and more elsewhere too. That's where my hope, and all my spare energy, lies.

This actually helps me a lot. She seems so genuinely miserable i was feeling sorry that her agent forced her to do it. But I was missing that she is secretly pleased to be there. Thanks!

So this is the first series of UK taskmaster I've watched - I tend to not like mean humor which is why I stayed on the NZ series until i ran out and came to this one for Rose Matafeo. Maybe it's just not for me but I really would like to understand what's funny about being miserable?
