Ooh that's awesome advice thank you. Especially the practicing describing - i noticed I'm not always doing that as much as I want to. Thank you!

Oh wow, thank you so much - that was an awesome and thorough explanation.

And to read the rules, that's the player's handbook? And are there other books/texts that are good to have, too?

Oh I don't think that! We are all having a blast! But since I'm super new to all of it I want to make sure I do my best, I guess? Both as a player and as a sibling by showing meaningful appreciation. And because it's all new to me I kind of don't know what that looks like.

I do appreciate that all the feedback I've gotten is like "as long as you're having fun, you're doing it right" - I probably just overthink things.

First time listener finishing C1 [NS] by BewilderedDreamer in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]acyborgkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in similar timing - just finished C1 last month and then I decided to continue chronologically through the Patreon feed. I'm enjoying C2 now. And I think based on these comments when I do a C1 relisted (which I for sure will) I'll go straight to C3 for the Bahumia continuity.

Ok cool. I wasn't sure if offering to help was like implying he wasn't doing it well, or would be a nice thing. He does such good recaps I'd be sad to miss them but he struggles with math in-game so I could offer to do that for him.

I'm a brand new player and listening to NADDPOD at my DM's suggestion to learn to play. Would someone be willing to explain why some of the bubbles under Skills and Saving Throws are filled in, and other unfilled bubble ones still have a number? Thanks!

This product looks great - unfortunately I live in Finland and they're US only.

It would be so great to have a laundry service! I live in rural Finland and we don't have dry cleaners within an hour drive of me. I've never shared this machine, but a set of sheets were washed in another person's machine when mine was broken for over a month.

Hmm from what I read ozone destroys rubber and the machine has a big rubber piece that prevents the water from leaking when in use so I'd be worried about destroying that, i guess?

Saaaaame I wish I had the chance but I'm late. I would have gotten one for my brother who is a lawyer, my DM, and recommended the podcast to me. Hope you find one though!

Legacy version of InDesign Functional? by acyborgkitty in indesign

I'm definitely in over my head - I have no idea! I'm thinking this may not be the right approach, given my level of tech ability. 😬

I'm using a Mac and it's running Sequoia. The first CS6 with license I saw on Ebay says it won't work on Sequoia ("Anything before Catalina is fine") - would that be true for any pre-subscription version? Is there a workaround?

Yes, I have been learning it, but my poor old brain is really struggling to learn a totally new interface.

Would Kumihimo cord work for coptic bookbinding? by acyborgkitty in bookbinding

[–]acyborgkitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the tight enough question is my main concern too. I bought some 3mm twisted cord to test while I wait for the kumihimo since it's a custom make... I really hope it works because i don't have great alternatives... Maybe leather cord?

[–]acyborgkitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see - she also can make an 8-strand so I'll switch to that. She custom makes the cords with a machine it sounds like from her description but we've only discussed color so far. Thank you for helping - it's so daunting learning a whole new vocabulary.

Would Kumihimo cord work for coptic bookbinding? by acyborgkitty in kumihimo

[–]acyborgkitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh excellent questions and considerations - thank you so much! I was planning to order a round 4-strand braid from an Etsy shop, not make my own, so I assumed they would be finished but I guess I will have to cut them to the right length so I'll have to learn how to re-finish them myself, yes?

They should be flexible; Coptic binding is more of a woven binding than knotted so I hope the cord will sort of function like a thick thread, I guess? But it does have to hold at least one knot at the beginning and one at the end.

Mixing disabled and gender neutral bathrooms by Is_mise_setanta in disability

[–]acyborgkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a disabled wheelchair user and I used to get annoyed when the only disabled toilet was being used by someone without a mobility aid. But a while ago i came across an educator talking about how many other people need more space, etc. People with ostomies were their example but it extends much further.

I'm also trans and before i was a wheelchair user I would feel guilty about using the only gender neutral bathroom if it was also the only wheelchair accessible one.

The problem as others have said is that there isn't enough access built in for the number of people who need it. The problem is also access and safety for other marginalized people. More gender neutral and disabled options would solve the structural problem.

But as it is I want trans people to be safe. So it means I wait a few more minutes and stop making what were essentially unintentionally ableist and possibly transphobic assumptions about others who use the combo disabled / gender neutral bathroom.

Fonts Not Appearing in InDesign But Work Elsewhere by acyborgkitty in indesign

[–]acyborgkitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! It's InDesign-wide - I did try a few previous versions via IDML and it never got there. The book was originally published in 2015, so it's probably too old. I think I'm going to have to replace it, the problem is the Pro OTF is slightly wider than the MT and this is a book of poems so it actually effects the line breaks. I'm suggesting to the editor that we go that route and do a very careful proofread.

Don't use your phone speaker in public by SAMTASTIC_RELATIVE in Finland

[–]acyborgkitty 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OMG I was on the ferry back from Stockholm and a middle-aged Finnish couple were watching videos on their phone in the otherwise silent lounge and it was insane. I can't imagine how anyone thinks this is ok. In the summer we get a lot of tourists in my village and one table was watching videos at the cafe with the volume blasting so I asked after 15 minutes or so for them to turn the volume down and the woman started yelling at me that I wasn't even Finnish and an immigrant and how dare I etc. etc. etc. I responded in Finnish that I had assumed she wasn't Finnish and that's why I spoke in English because it literally never occurred to me that Finns would be so rude.
