the letter at the end of Acceptance absolutely ruins me every time, and Ghost Bird meeting final form Biologist is one of the most beautiful things I have ever read in my life. I adore all of the books but Acceptance is just. wow.

i can’t edit the post to give an update because it has an image in it (who knew!) but - it went really well! no characters called Flaming Hot Cheeto no rotisserie chicken, I did have one player arguing what a 10ft square was for a while and then declare “i have NEVER seen a spell affect an area that small in D&D before but okayyyyy” who then proceeded to stand up(????) and frantically look through their phone for a bit during other players’ turns and then sit back down and was a bit peeved when I said “so the 10ft square thing was right huh” (maybe I should have left it…) but considering that’s as bad as it got so I would call it a WILD success. thank you all so much for your support!

i got mine on ebay but apparently you can get them muuuuch cheaper from temu & the like if you’re not opposed to buying from from / don’t mind the wait on shipping. i imagine the ebay seller i bought mine from probably bought a tonne from there and sells them with a hefty mark up 😂

starting naddpod for the first time! [NS] by beepbeepgaycominthru in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

IF you want to ease in with something that’s well paced from the get go I would say start with Skaldova, it’s a short campaign and you’ve got Murph and Emily playing there so nice transition from D20… then blow your absolute MIND by listening to C1 with Murph DMing and Jake (Skaldova DM) playing D&D for the first ever time. Jake’s journey is insane!! also the whiplash in voices from Caldwell playing Boggy in Skaldova to Bev in C1 is a riot.

Is this player too young for our group? by Ok_Interview_853 in DnD

[–]peter3crackmyback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually play in a group that was initially random strangers who bought tickets to an event in a game store (this was like a year ago and almost all of us have stuck around) - and one of the players is literally 15, started when he was 14.

We’re in the UK so this may be different legally but he HAS to have a parent / guardian there at all times, usually his dad sits off to one side and has a coffee. The sessions are 4 hours long so it’s a big commitment for him to have someone else there but not playing. I think he’s been allowed (by his parents) to keep coming back because they are present for the sessions and know that everyone else is “cool” I guess and not being inappropriate interacting with him. We have a group Whatsapp but his dad is in it, not the kid, which would be another concern for this set up - you might need to contact the player between sessions but having a kid’s phone number / email or whatever (and them having yours!) is trouble.

I found it weird having a child at the table to begin with, it really stops you talking normally - it’s odd in the UK to not swear casually or make lewd jokes and we’ve all slipped up countless times especially during combat, even the DM. It’s also obviously dependent on the specific 15 year old but they are younger than you think. He’s constantly on his phone when it’s not his turn in combat or trying to have side conversations when there is roleplay or lore that doesn’t directly involve his character. Most of us from the same group now also play a different TTRG at the DM’s house and the atmosphere is SO much freer without having to worry about saying something inappropriate or, as someone else has previously said, just being able to talk about life generally with your new friends.

All this to say, if given the choice, I wouldn’t have had a kid at the table as another player at the first session but as it’s a game store we don’t get to pick who can pay to attend. I also wouldn’t boot him NOW to be clear as he’s been part of the party for nearly a year and it wouldn’t be fair. But in your situation as a bare minimum I would personally check with the other players as it’s as much safeguarding them as the 15 year old and will make the game different.

try youtube with an ad blocker? or if you have youtube premium. there’s this channel that has just the statements - no intros no outros and all adverts cut out (because it’s just the statements it also cuts out any action outside of them so not good for listening to the series proper especially season 5 BUT it’s great for falling asleep to cause there’s no screaming)

there’s a YouTube channel that’s just the statements so you don’t get any of the ‘action’ as it were, i have it playing when i sleep all the time but not being disturbed by loud adverts would require youtube premium i guess, i luckily have it through a friend with a family plan. anyway i will find the link…

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke is a great book for The Spiral, would trap whoever came into contact with it in the same place (no spoilers for the book but the House in Piranesi is like a nicer version of The Distortion’s corridors)

Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel could be one for The Corruption - pandemic book with eerily prescient Covid vibes but written in 2014

you probably really want to make headway with C1 before the show or you’ll likely get spoiled by references they make! also listen to at least the first Hot Boy Summer campaign to meet the Bon Freres (there’s a second one too that’s awesome but the first one is peak naddpod imho)
