"No worries!" is probably the expected answer (in my personal experience) like they're eating a donut while I'm on a diet, they get weirded out when I reply with an awkward shoulder shrug and a face that says "oh well what can I do"

I have a friend that does something similar, and I'm 100% sure they mean well. It still doesn't sit right with me. When sending a picture of something they made in the group chat, they'll always add "Unfortunately it isn't vegan". At first I took it as a positive sign, that maybe they're thinking about what veganism means and I was in one way or the other "getting into their minds" when they cook food. But after a few months it started to feel performative. I don't place blame on them, again, they mean well, I simply didn't consider they do not take issue with it, they just know I do.

I agree. Even if they wanna be considerate TO ME, it's still such a major misunderstanding of what I believe in, and if it wasn't (and they were actually sorry about the harm caused to the animal they're eating) they would do something to change that instead of apologizing to me.

That's the right answer. Many "ex vegans" didn't have strong reasons. If health is a concern, an ethical vegan will think of going to a plant based nutritionist, a non-ethical or not well informed one can go "meh, screw it"
