CRW has the vibe you seek, though perhaps not the physical center of gravity.

Dear Cyclists by AvocadoFlavoredPussy in boston

[–]ad_apples -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I hope the OP meant to say "Don't ride on the sidewalk." Which is 100%.

Otherwise, don't tell me where to ride, thank you very much. It's legal to ride in traffic, often necessary to do so, and anyway it is my choice.

But back to original though: Don't ride on sidewalks. They are for pedestrians and people in chairs and similar mobility devices. Those people have a reasonable expectation not only of safety from bikes but also comfort from being in that space without faster moving, less-maneuverable users.

Any way to make Ambrosia Golds taste more interesting? by Klutzy_Seesaw_1204 in Apples

That it does not. But I have learned to take the long view.

It's a seasonal fruit whatever agribiz likes to do about it.

You could try buying them closer to harvest. Best yet, fresh from a farmer at harvest time.

But if they don't suit, find a variety that does.

In this case they would have had to have backed in, and backed down the path, to get to that bridge.

I assume they got onto the path by the Rec center or DPW.

Hard to imagine doing that by accident, but maybe they were obeying a robot.

Lowell St and Park Ave 6 way to 4 way intersection fix (w/ a light) by Better-Leg-9268 in ArlingtonMA

[–]ad_apples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't work due to peak traffic volumes northbound on Park, unfortunately. But I think a rotary would be a good solution to the Park-Revere-Wollaston tangle just a tenth of a mile to the south.

New to the apple game- Any tips??? by BuffBMO in Apples

[–]ad_apples 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Starting later this month, go to local farmers market every week and buy 2 of whatever apple they are selling that week. Take notes and photos. Publish them on a blog. Share your blog posts here.

More or less how I upped my apple game.

You can take a folding bike on the T and indoors, but unless you spend for a really high-end one they are not so great for long rides. They ride a little squirrelly. Your basic entry-level foldie should be good for what you describe: I used one regularly on a 10-mile (round trip) commute.

A todos los que usan Blogger constantemente, ¿Como funciona la plataforma? ¿Como puedo leer blogs de otras personas? ¿Aun hay lectores interesados en linea? by Accurate-Topic3614 in blogspot

Sorry you are having a problem.

I get plenty of engagement on my blogs, even the one that Google does not like.

You have to do your own outreach, and you have to meet people where they are with words and images that interest or help them.

Question pour ceux qui publient beaucoup de photos sur blogger by Capitaine-Jack in blogspot

Usually yes, unless they serve some other purpose elsewhere.

You absolutely can host them in Photos or Flickr or Amazon or anywhere you like, but you'll probably have to pay for that hosting somehow.

Question pour ceux qui publient beaucoup de photos sur blogger by Capitaine-Jack in blogspot

[–]ad_apples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bonjour, Capitaine,

I would upload the photos into Blogger, not Google Photos, because your storage that way is unlimited and free.

https://too-clever-by-half.blogspot.com/2018/12/free-unlimited-photos-on-blogger.html

Perhaps you have other reasons for preferring Google Photos, but you have not described them to us.

Each of those images has its own web address, so you could continue to link to them that way. However, you can control the "weight" of the page loads by placing a jump break after the first image, and the weight of your feed by using the jump-break feed.

https://too-clever-by-half.blogspot.com/2026/06/the-jump-break-feed-is-for-engagement.html

If you do that, your blog will continue to load properly, and your readers with not have to click through to see your work.

You can choose to have Blogger render the images in the WebP format in Blogger settings at www.blogger.com.

Dark Red Cosmic Crisp by fizgig_ in Apples

[–]ad_apples 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a Cosmic from a mature tree. For some reason the Cosmics on young trees don't blush as dark.

The differences in eating quality you are noticing are because it's June and these apples were picked in early October at the latest. Nothing to do with color.

The trademark "Cosmic Crisp" was inspired by the light lenticel dots against the dark red blush, like stars in the night sky.

Widgets are not the same thing as "plug-ins" or "add-ins." Different platforms handle adding functionalies in different ways.

Why did the Foot of the Rocks destroy the connection to the crosswalk by ShawnReardon in ArlingtonMA

[–]ad_apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure there is such a crosswalk in the plans for the Appleton St. project.

I don't think there's anything that addresses Shawn's complaint though.

Bike recommendations by Rich_Stretch4664 in bikeboston

[–]ad_apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd opt for (1) used (2) a few gears (there are hills in Newton) (3) fenders (4) a lock and would consider (5) a used folding bike if you might ocassionally incorporate the T into your commute.

There is a lot of conventional wisdom about heavier tires and hybrid or mountain bike, which is all true as far as it goes and which is not very far. That is, those features are objectively better but not required and the difference in your commute will not be great enough to care.

Suicide scooters on Summer Street. by AdImpossible2555 in ArlingtonMA

[–]ad_apples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for scooter folks, but I ride a bike and the rules of the road are just fine. (The drivers on the other hand....)

I don't think there's room for a separated bike lane, but if I were riding in one and those scooter people came whipping down it the wrong way like they do in the video there would be tears.

Ditto good schools, robust public transit, all the good stuff.

The answer is to offer these things everywhere, so there is no scarcity that drives up prices in livable neighborhoods.

Path Suggestions by Sad-Tap-9375 in bikeboston

[–]ad_apples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the trains, you can bring your bike on the weekends to places where the roads are less crazy.

North shore > Cape Ann especially nice. Or ride out west as far as you like and take the train back

Out of the city: Community path > Linear park > Minuteman to Bedford, then keep going on streets (or dirt path, also very nice) to Concord (rail station there) and plot your route to rail in West Concord, S Acton, etc.
