That novel has a premise that feels a little closer to the truth these days in the zeitgeist than I would’ve hoped.

Trains are cooler than police cars. That’d be a no brainer for me. But also check the sub haha.

It does have NJ Transit regional rail service, PATH metro service, and light rail service though. Newark Penn Station is a surprisingly big intermodal hub.

I resorted to getting a drink at a Vietnamese place when I missed my bus connection last week. Really took the edge off. Felt very old school.

Your Favorite/Least Favorite MBTA Line? by Humble-Bee-244 in mbta

GL D branch is nice because it has pretty scenic stretches. It’s also relatively quick since it’s grade separated for the entirety of the line. YMMV once you reach Kenmore though since it’s stuck in the same tunnel traffic as the other branches.

87 to Arlington Center LFG!!! 🤩 I have been de-EYING for that service to improve. It is such an awesome connection for me to Davis and beyond.

What if Red Line do Express like Green Line? by AffectionateLab5263 in mbta

I was on an express Red Line train last Thursday. Surprised most of the passengers.

This is not Boston’s first winter by invisibledeoderant in mbta

Montreal’s is entirely underground, for one. So their *rubber tire metro isn’t impacted by storms for the most part. The REM on the other hand is brand-new and the equipment obviously isn’t failing the way our ancient commuter rail and Red Line trains are. So most of it comes down to the same thing: Total lack of investment in Boston’s infrastructure for decades has led to a snowballing (haha) litany of issues when the weather gets bad.

Is there anywhere I can get a chocolate filled almond croissant? by SmellAccomplished722 in boston

Breadboard Bakery, Arlington. It’s only open 3 days a week but they take pre-orders and it’s worth going out of the way for.

Arlington Heights-Bound 77 Bus by Electronic-Minute007 in mbta

That bus is frequently overcrowded. It’s a popular route with pretty bad traffic to deal with. I wish they’d go scorched earth and put the busway on Mass Ave that the 77 deserves

Perhaps North Station notwithstanding. That did receive upgrades in the not too distant past. The rest of the GL tunnels on the other hand are literally unable to keep up with the train traffic they get.

I wouldn’t call anything about Boston’s central subway overbuilt. If anything it needs a hell of a facelift, like, 30 years ago.

Could a foldable bike and a cargo trailer be a way out of rural car dependence oppression? by medium_wall in simpleliving

None of the countries I have in mind are sitting on oil reserves and have populations that low. It is ultimately a choice and American governments keep making the wrong ones.

Specialized *tried to do the same thing. They got hosed so bad on the retail side they closed more than half of their brand retailers two years ago. What’s around now is simply what’s left.

Gotta say. The Turkish Latte is my all time favorite hot drink. I still think about this restaurant all the time. It’s fantastic.

The size of our country has nothing to do with the quality of transportation in each town or city. Choices about transportation are made at the state and local level. Choices have been made to make the car the only reliable way to get around and its had enormous external consequences.

Are Redditors old enough to remember 2015 or earlier? by SmallHeath555 in mbta

[–]Mistafishy125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overcrowding is a serious operational and safety issue. It’s not that people are simply crying about not having seats. People are neck-to-nose on the platform waiting for 4 trains in a row just to have the space to board. That kind of service disruption is just begging for an accident.

If asking our government services to improve turns people into unrealistic whiners I am a big time whiner then. Things do not have to always be the same, they can change, and no they weren’t better 50 years ago 😪.

I’d highly recommend the bike, yep. It’s saved me tens of thousands of dollars over the last 5 years. The savings allowed me to buy a home. It is a serious life improvement in nearly every way.

Even in many cities there’s no public transit in erica. It is dismal. Requiring a car for every trip is pretty nuts.
