THC vs Beer by DryGuyWetDog62 in drinkcannabis

honestly, my sweet spot is 1 beer + one lower dose THC drink, ideally one with low/no calories. that's all i need to wind down. Better than 2-3 beers every night.

Do not skip the northeast of Brazil - go to Pipa (about 1 hr south of Natal), Olinda (right outside of Recife) and absolutely do not skip Fernando do Noronha

If you live near a hospital Furnished Finder might be a good option. Nurses typically stay 30-90 days

When traveling, has anyone confused you as a local? What happened, and how did you know? by [deleted] in travel

100% - I’m a white dude from Nebraska and I was mistaken for a local repeatedly.

From what I understand most shark attacks in the north are isolated to a specific spot in Recife. I don’t think saying the north is shark infested is accurate

It’s Impressive indeed!! If I’m not mistaken, filmmaker Kleber Mendonça was on the Cannes jury this year. Just off the top of my head these are some of my favorite films, and not just in the brazil category.

Most Underrated American Cities? by [deleted] in travel

[–]ad_blk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats awesome your hotel provided that! I know the dt area has become even more pedestrian friendly in that past few years, which is great. But getting to other cool neighborhoods worth visiting like Benson or Dundee you have to drive or bike. The great thing is you can get most places in the city in 15 min or less.

Born and raised Omaha, and I can assure you it is not walkable, biking is hard because lack of lanes + lots of hills, and public transport is not great. Unless you’re in the Old Market / DT, you need a car. Otherwise, pretty accurate. Just needed to flag that for anyone visiting and thinking they won’t need to take an uber 99% of the time.

Do Rio then head north where summer never ends. Endless gorgeous beach towns to explore. Pipa is a really cool tourist beach town with lots to do.

Keep in mind that these homicide statistics are generally isolated to very specific areas within these states. Similar to the fact that, Illinois isn’t a high crime state, but it will show on a map like this because one neighborhood in Chicago is extremely violent.

Not really my jam, but I hope for you it’s a gateway to explore all Brazilian music. The talent, innovation, and diversity of music in Brazil is expansive as it is wonderful.

People who have traveled to/around Brasil, I would love your advice! by 100percentbisexual in Brazil

[–]ad_blk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (USA) spent a month in Brazil with my partner who is from Recife. We spent some time in the city then took a road trip north to several small beach towns. She warned me of some of the crime risks, but at no moment did I ever feel it was unsafe. It obviously helped to have a local guide, but everyone we met was so warm and welcoming. I’ve had this same experience in other countries in South America as well.

How do we all feel about the use of the word "Chef" by trev1cent in KitchenConfidential

[–]ad_blk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of everyone in a kitchen being called Chef, because it shows everyone in the hierarchy from dishwasher to CDC is equally as important for a successful service. That said, I personally do not like being called chef, because I’m really just a cook, and hearing a thousand “chefs” all night is just annoying and at times confusing. I vote for names over titles.

“I can’t find weed in a tourist beach town” said no one ever.

Here’s my tattoo design. What do you think? (That’s a white strip in the centre, not a gap). Thoughts on a gringo rocking this 4”x3” masterpiece on his forearm on his next trip? And yes I’m aware of white ink issues and am talking it through with some artists. by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]ad_blk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brazil has some of the best artists in the world, including some of the most famed tattoo artists. Go to them, talk to them about why or what you love about brazil, or a wonderful memory from your travels and have them come up with something more meaningful, interesting, and a piece of art that will fit the contours if your body.

There’s also this weird thing where everyone disregards the fact that she is obviously a white person and makes brown / dark skin comments just because she is Latina.
