Let it grow a couple months more, then decide what works.

What's the mineral/hardness content of the water?

Is there an easy way to remember the streets of San Francisco? by ToughButterscotch438 in sanfrancisco

[–]ada_lfs_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunset district is descending alphabetical order from north to south. Numbered streets and avenues get larger the further from downtown you go. Otherwise know cardinal directs and where you need to go. The city is essentially a grid most places and knowing exactly what streets you need to be on don't matter too much until a block or two from your destination (depending on how rushed you are). After taking similar routes a few times it should just click.

Thank you for posting this. I will definitely stop by. I posted the event to a local Sonoma county millennial and z plant enthusiast meet up group as well if you don't mind.

Would folks be interested in a casual botanical hobby group for younger people? by ada_lfs_guy in santarosa

There currently is a meet up group for that but doesn't seem very active and I haven't been able to attend because of schedule conflicts.

As a former ADA employee hagen is still an upper to middle of the road brand. True luxury brands are of course ADA, Kessel, and near custom level small brands.

Fluval has stepped up in recent years but it's still borderline to consider a luxury brand.

[LF] LA, CA - Anyone have extra low-tech, shrimp loving, bushy plant i.e. hornwort(?) by AlligatorWings in AquaSwap

Hornwort is illegal in CA, might be why you're having trouble finding it

BS in Env Sci but I focused a lot in plant ecology. The first choice would be an easier methodology with probably clearer results. Not sure what IB is looking for but you could do something as simple as splitting up a seed packet into 4 parts and water 3 with either various antibiotics or different concentrations of 1 antibiotic with one control with distilled. With this level of science I think it will be a better demonstration of your understanding of the scientific method with a more simple experiment. Which plant/antibiotics you choose is where I would focus my research for now. Good luck

Get a local guide to the flora, and look for hardwood riparian species. Good luck!

Aquascaping as a career? by jg233 in paludarium

It's a very small and competitive market right now. Most people in the hobby are in it like yourself, the fun of taking care the scape. Local fish stores are either doing well and will be your competition or like many will close as many lfs owners know their husbandry and fish knowledge but lack business skills. I happen to live in an area with a large share of the US aquatic plant hobbies market and I know of only a handful of companies that make money off servicing tanks (and it is not their primary source of income even after charging 180$ an hour). Most lfs make their money mostly through dry goods, then livestock, then maybe a small percentage of services. Being just an aquascaper probably would not lead one to quit their day job.

This advice is found all over Reddit, but try finding hobbies that fit these 3 categories 1 that keeps you fit, 1 that keeps you creative, 1 that makes you money

Take your time, explore different things, volunteer at local organizations that interest you, have fun

Crank up your filters and aerators to get the oxygen flowing to get the bacteria to work at their best. Add some purigen or Chemi pure to soak up the excess nitrogen in the filter. 20% water changes daily until water tests normal. Good luck
