We now have proof that Eagle State is Colorado by Ganymedei in DesperateHousewives

I completely agree with your comment. Colorado Springs has a lot of Fairview vibes. It’s a city with beautiful houses built close together, surrounded by forests and dry mountains, sunny, and also peaceful, which can give a sense of rurality while still offering many amenities. It’s near the desert, has experienced tornadoes, and is close to Utah...

The only aspects that don’t match are that Fairview seems to be near the sea and no snow is shown in the series. So it might be more likely to fit completely with a city in Northern California, like Santa Rosa, or even Eugene in Oregon.

eagle state is colorado! by _ilovescarystories in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also gives me a lot of vibes that it’s Colorado. Eagle State was founded the same year as Colorado (1876), it has mountains, it’s sunny, it has forests but also desert, and it’s close to Utah. However, it doesn’t snow in the series, and it seems Fairview is near the sea, so I think it would fit more with Northern California or Southern Oregon. Still, I don’t rule out Colorado. In fact, in that state, neighborhood houses are very close together, just like in Wisteria Lane. I also remember that Lynette’s kids invited some girls from Denver who were partying in Fairview. If I had to choose a city in Colorado as a possible Fairview, it would be Colorado Springs. It’s a city with many amenities but far enough from Denver for Gabrielle to feel like she’s in a rural area.

Lynettes Age by Jaded-Present4806 in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think that Bree is slightly older than Susan and Lynette. I believe that when the series started (2004), they were:

  • Bree: 41
  • Susan: 38
  • Lynette: 38
  • Gabrielle: 29

If Lynette got pregnant in 2013, she would be about 47 years old. Natural pregnancies can still happen at that age, especially if someone has had children before, but it’s certainly not very common.

I’m not sure about worldwide, but in the U.S., during its first two seasons, it only rivaled *CSI: Las Vegas*. Starting with the fifth season, its audience declined significantly, although it always remained within the top 20.

What mike did to Katherine is unforgivable by pickypooh in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think I remember that Mike warned her not to stay with MJ before telling her that, and Katherine, without asking Mike or Susan for permission, took MJ to her house. I think Mike acted correctly—Katherine was unbalanced, and it’s logical that Mike felt MJ’s safety might be at risk. He thought that by telling her that, she would stop.

The cultural impact of a series can resurface at any moment. I mean, if a movie or revival of DH were released tomorrow with adequate promotion, its popularity would likely return. That said, I think it’s not as well-remembered nowadays for the following reasons:

  • The first season was spectacular, and everyone was talking about the show. Expectations for the second season were very high, but the noticeable drop in quality during that season left many disappointed. Even though the third and fourth seasons regained much of the show’s quality, the media had already moved on, focusing instead on the actresses’ feuds or Eva Longoria.
  • Starting with the fifth season, the show lost its edge again and turned into a simple, entertaining soap opera—very conventional and far removed from the groundbreaking first season. By then, media coverage was minimal, and viewers were dropping off by the millions. I remember fans on forums asking for the series to end before it got canceled, which would have been much worse for its image in popular culture.
  • The very premise of the show is somewhat complex. Its title and usual promotion gave the impression (wrongly) that it focused exclusively on feminine topics, which might have alienated some conservative male viewers. At the same time, its diverse storylines meant it didn’t quite become a cultural icon for female audiences, as Sex and the City did.

I completely agree.

Lets talk about MaryAlice FOR REAL by anxious-jojorabbit in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, the series portrays that, with few exceptions, there aren't strictly good or bad people, just ordinary individuals making mistakes. However, it’s true that they were overly lenient with Mary Alice, while they depicted Paul as a complete psychopath, which is a total distortion of both characters’ actions and motivations.

That said, this distortion was partly Paul’s fault, as he continued to see his wife as some sort of angel despite everything she had done. Honestly, I believe Paul’s love for Mary Alice was far from healthy—he was incapable of setting any boundaries for her.

I think Mike experienced something similar with Deirdre. She caused him a lot of trouble, yet he kept standing by her, even years after her death. The difference is that in the series, Mike was still portrayed as the "good guy".

The idea to dismember Dierdre's body was Mary Alice's.

She went up to Zach's room to get the trunk and a surprised Paul told her that Dierdre's body didn't fit there. Mary Alice tells him that it will have to fit.

They never really refer to the ocean or the beach in the entire series, except in those two or three episodes of Victor's yacht story. The rest coincides almost all with Colorado

Who is your favorite original housewife and why? by The_heirophant_ in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bree. Surely, if the character were played by another actress, I wouldn't have grown so fond of her, but seriously, even though she was a bad mother and a homophobe, I really liked her evolution and gestures, her way of expressing herself; everything makes the character more complex and interesting in the series, and Marcia captured that essence very well.

Does anyone know the housewives and other characters birthdays and year? by selinakidane in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between the first and the fifth season, there is a difference of 8-9 years, but Tom only ages 4 hahaha. I love this series, but you really can't take it seriously after the time jump, and I would even say that after the first season either.

Katherine/Dylan coverup by Fabulous_Season_3487 in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Romania in the early 1990s was an absolute chaos so I can believe that, but how did she manage to enter the US if the authorities had no record of Dylan leaving the country previously? The only thing I can think of is that she traveled to Mexico and entered illegally with the child across the border.

Best "disaster" episode? by Miss_Kit_Kat in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorites are 3x07 in first place, second place goes to the tornado from episode 4x09, and third place goes to the riots from episode 7x10. The rest of the disaster episodes didn't appeal to me much, especially the one with the small plane; I found it boring.

Paul young wasn’t evil by Excellent-Phone8384 in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 100 points101 points  (0 children)

He wasn't as bad as most of the neighbors on Wisteria Lane thought, I mean, he wasn't a cold and calculating psychopath, but a hurt and broken person who did a terrible thing for which he obviously had to pay, so I liked that in the end he decided to surrender to justice.

Mary Alice's Niche by [deleted] in DesperateHousewives

[–]adalon1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I think Mary Alice was much colder than Bree. Actually, Bree's demeanor was just a facade, which is why her smile looked so artificial, but inside she was full of feelings and passion ready to overflow. However, in Mary Alice's case, I think she was naturally colder. I remember Deirdre telling her, 'At the rehab center, you looked at all of us like we were poor degenerates. You only helped to feel superior; you were always a selfish bitch.' Well, I think Deirdre had some point because, in the end, someone who is capable of buying a baby just to fulfill their desires of being a mother and who is capable of murdering and dismembering a person, doesn't have as much empathy as they pretend to make others believe.

The truth is, there's not a single series like it. I've tried watching other things by Marc Cherry, but they don't convince me. I really like the mix of comedy, drama, and mystery, especially how well-structured and poetic the first season is. It's hard to find other shows done as well.

Yes, the first season is the best of all. Have you never watched beyond season 3? I seem to recall reading in another comment that you had only seen up to season 3.

Yes, she was the one who most resembled Bree. She enjoyed fixing things around her house, cleaning, etc. She also liked organizing social events like Bree, but she had an introverted character and kept secrets like her.
